This now marks the *third* Calypso I know of. The Nymph, the Australian Merle from Bluey, and now, a moon. That view from Calypso was JAW-DROPPING AMAZING!! You have gotten a sub!
Saturn is gorgeous. Its always nice to have variety in the Solar System. Though, I always liked Neptune better. Blue and mysterious, like our seas and oceans on Earth.
Distances and sizes in space are truly mind boggling. The distant saturnian moons are millions of kilometers away from Saturn, in comparison our moon is about 380k kilometers away from Earth, and you can fit 30 earths in that earth-moon distance alone. You can fit about 94 earths between Titan and Saturn. About 11,800 earths in the distance between the earth and the sun. And about 110,000 earths in-between Saturn and the sun. I rounded down several earths worth in those calculations to keep the numbers simple. Multitudes of earths lost in the error margins of space.. mind boggling. Edit: congrats on your first sponsor!
S/2009 S1 is easily my favorite; Titan is strange and beautiful, and a very close second, but nothing beats that view of all the ring particles flowing like some bizarre river.
Seeing Saturn from Kiviuq absolutely blew my mind. It's so tiny it would be crazy to know you're orbiting it, yet still big enough to barely see its beautiful rings. The music has the feeling down perfectly too.
My favorite moons are Titan to Iapitus because we can see Saturn, it's rings and other moons too..😊 Also could you please put the distance comparison of our Moon from Earth? Like how close and farther each moon of Saturn compared to our Moon from our Earth. That would be even more interesting..🙂 Thanks a lot for this wonderful video.
That's nothing. Meet Psamathe and Neso who are somehow orbiting Neptune roughly twice as far as Fornjot. I think it has to do with how far the planet is from the Sun. There's a certain cutoff where any object attracted by the planet's gravity will just end up saying "nah" and orbiting the Sun instead. That's obviously less strict further away from the Sun.
I could only imagine what it would be like if civilisation started on one of those outer most moons. Like even as a modern person I struggle to understand how Saturn as a spec in the sky manages to keep those moons in orbit. It would take them so much longer to realise how their world works
Amazing stuff but a bit too quick for me. One after the other in very quick successions. I'm aware that it can be stopped/slowed down but it would have been cool to see some of these for a minute or so to fully immerse yourself in the experience. Still! Love the channel and keep it up!
Hey man how do i make the sun look more accurate from other planets? (The sun from mercury looks the same as from earth.) Here are my pc specs: I7-12650h rtx 3050ti
S/2009 S1, Calypso and Titan views should be listed as reasons to stay alive. We can only imagine, how stunningly splendid are they in the real life. Hope, someday one will be able to witness such a spectacular view.
Fun Fact: you can only see Saturn’s rings from Iapetus because its slightly off Saturn’s Equatorial plane, and is the only major moon with such a big difference from its orbital inclination and parent equatorial plane. Triton is another example tho. Another fun fact: You wouldn’t see Saturn from Titan because its atmosphere is too thick, especially with its Tholin Haze that it will completely block Saturn. The sun will be visible though.
Our Moon is around 384400km away from Earth, so in that case Dione (2:51) Helene (3:58) and Polydeuce (4:04) are the most similar ones... at least in distance.
I wanna know why Iapatus and the moons after it are so far out, are they beginning to leave Saturn’s gravity or are just entering?? Also, congrats on your first sponsor!!
I feel like iapetus is the forgotten world of saturns major moons, never really mentioned, cassini only flew by it a handfull of times, no one seems to care about it. I care about you iapetus Ɛ>
I just found your channel. How do moons so far away still orbit the planet? In fact, how does a planet so far from the Sun still orbit? I love Titan :).
The gas giants are so massive only they can hold moons that are so far from them. Generally, the more massive a planet is, the more it can hold a moon from afar. Same goes for the Sun, it's just that more massive! Enjoy the channel!
For S/2009 S1, wouldn't the moon be orbiting at roughly the same speed as the ring particles? If the ring particles are traveling that much faster than the moon I'd think they'd be orbiting at higher altitude, or the moon lower...? Unless the moon is on a retrograde orbit 🤔?
Imagine if we were living creature in one of the fartest moon of saturn.. maybe for a long time we never think that saturn is the planet we rotate for.. maybe we think it's the sun, as it shines brighter

That view from Titan was spectacular
Yeah the Titan's view is spectacular but...
did you know that the all the moon always faces the planet!
wow!
Its because titan has atmosphere?
i know@@lamedzaen
@@lamedzaen I'ts because Titan is tidally locked to Saturn
Imagine if scientists counted all of Saturn's ring particles as moons, we'd be here for the rest of our lives.
Multiple lives lol
What is the definition of a moon then? What counts
pretty sure it’s something orbiting a planet/dwarf that isn’t inturrupted by other moons… it may not though, let me know.

Space Engine in VR is a vastly different experience than seeing it on a flat screen.
Too broke bro 😢
The view from the Sheppard moons inside Saturn's rings, is one of those things I never new I had always wanted to see until after the fact.

Well... about that blue part...
@@shpho i heard.
the views from the most distant moons really bring it home how massive saturn is - that far away and still trapped in its orbit
I was thinking the same thing: How very distant moons are still under Saturn's influence.

That shot from Calypso is sick‼️‼️‼️ Just bought and downloaded Space Engine for myself. I'm exploring Mimas right now.
Those last few moon names sounded like the scientist naming them had a big interest in Nordic mythology as well :D
