What a tremendous entertainment listening to Mahler Symphony Number 10 and this selection of twelve wonderful symphonic songs. The Orchestra as always...magnificent and it could not be any other way with the great Pierre Boulez at the baton. Thank you very much for this gift to my soul.
The sonics and visual warmth of this space and orchestra are wonderfully captured in this recording. Really a good performance, and you can very much tell from watching the video. Good work.
What a treat! My favorite Mahler. And one of my favorite conductors! I first heard it in the 1950s on radio, Richard Burgin conducting Boston Symphony Orchestra.
Oh, the baritone was having a ball singing the Fischpredigt! He resembles Paul Giammati, the American actor, in his facial structure and expression, which comes out full force in the biting irony of the song. His control and timing of the tonal color in nuancing the phrasing and dynamic is great. Really delivers on the text as the first priority, which is as it must be. Wonderful! I am only just becoming familiar with this singer, and I certainly will look for more!
