Him: Builds a house that isn’t an ugly, soulless, cheaply built, cookie-cutter.
HOA: And I took that personally
Firstly: GORGEOUS HOUSE!!!!❤
Secondly: HOAs should never exist
Agreed. The fact that there are entire law practices dedicated to helping people not be destroyed by HOAs is telling.
Or rather, people shouldn't live so packed in together in monotonous suburban sprawl like that. Need more space from neighbors.
the biggest HOA violation is the existence of an HOA in the first place. Keep your power fantasies to yourself, they have no bearing over me and you will never force me to pay redundant fines because you dislike objectively enjoyable aesthetic design.
They're illegal miniature governments.
Came here literally just to say this. Thank you.
You know what matters more than HOA? FREEDOM
One of our neighbors painted large sunflowers on their fence. My wife complained about how ugly it was. I said you know what’s worse? Living in an HOA that would have prevented that.
@@nickcarroll8565 wtf is HOA?
@@HansWurst1569 Home Owner's Association
That doesn't look like an area where there would be an HoA.
HoAs are usually created by large corporations who build hundreds of houses that all look exactly the same. Then the HoA sets up rules to prevent the owners of the houses from making changes to their homes.
HoAs are really just an excuse to charge HoA fees and milk more money. There are condos where the HoA fees are more than the rent it would cost to rent them.
It's those Sackville-Bagginses stirring up trouble again with the HOA again.
Just Put the Ring on When you see them Knocking on the Door...
This is the truest statement I've heard all week
🤣🤣🤣🤣
@@drago7635Lol the ring, also a doorbell camera surveillance camera.
😂❤
That door hinge is so elegant.
Yes agree!
Agreed, a thing of beauty and functionality
The only thing more evil than Sauron and the Ring... HOA
To be fair, Sauron is evil because he's obsessed with order and innovation with disregard to free will and the natural world
...you forgot about Morgoth.
😂
Breathing is a fucking HOA violation
Yep
"im a tolkien collector"
"oh cool! whats your biggest item?"
"a house"
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm guessing the house is not in an HOA. The video never mentions one. The title is just for views, and is a bit click-baity.
And it was built in 2004, so I think they are ok
Yep.. I wanted to hear about the HOA and it wasn't there...click bait is a pet peeve 👎😒...

I agree but it's an awesome video non the less
His sense of imagination and fun keeps the spark alive in his eyes and sense of youthfulness
Too many people in life are quick to throwaway their sense of wonder for the sake of impressing others who did the same. This guy is actually living.
This is why you should NEVER live in an HOA controlled area!!!!!:/
That couldn't be a HOA violation, there aren't any HOA's in the Shire. A HOA would never have let that beautiful cabin get built in the local neighborhood so obviously there aren't any HOA's involved. Building code is another story. That front door wouldn't pass for egress in any building code but if it doesn't have a habitable space occupancy then maybe the IBC isn't in play. It could be a play house; no sleeping rooms, no living rooms, no cooking or bathing facilities, no problem. Damn that's a wonderful space.
I like to think of HOA council members as being ring wraiths lol
If the people in the Shire knew about the concept of HOA's, I'm 100% certain Bilbo's neighbours/relatives (don't remember the details) would definitely start one
@@Konpekikaminari The Sackville-Bagginses (The S.Bs). And they absolutely would.
@@dustwyrm yes, them
Thank you
My mistake. The H in HOA stands for Hobbit.
He has perfectly created a beautiful home that leaps up from the books and is the manifestation of my dream house I've been thinking about for years. When my wife and I were super young and just barely out of our teens we had a tiny tiny efficiency that we lovingly called our Hobbit hole and I look back at those days very very fondly. Super giant props to this gentleman for turning his fantasy into a real life abode. I didn't notice if it had a fireplace but I would be surprised if it didn't considering how much trouble he went to. WOW! The elves may have had Gondolin, the dwarves had Khaza Dume, men had Minas Tirith or that big city in Numenor that currently escapes me, but it's the Hobbits who really could make a place really cozy. Call me crazy but if I was to pick anywhere to live in Middle Earth during the Third Age it would definitely be BREE. I really managed to let a quick comment on a video that made me smile really run away from me
Understandable and I agree😊
Very smart (and book-accurate) not to mess with a hole in the ground. At the time of LOTR only very rich and very poor hobbits lived in holes.
Where did the middle class live?
@@Christopher-nk4enregular houses
@@Christopher-nk4en Houses. They differed from Men's by always being one story tall and having the round windows and doors. They also had thatch or turf roofs to resemble hobbit holes.
I’m guessing the "particular type of person" who will be able to buy that house is: a very rich person.
I spent the whole video guessing how rich he must be!
If I had won that billion dollar lottery there would most definitely have been a Hobbit hole in my future.
Living in a house like that, I would be barefoot with breeches and a fine waistcoat, and carry a dagger all the time. Proudfoot!
You could hire Ian McKellan to knock on your door every year to send you on a quest.
"You are in violation of the HOA bylaws."
"Oh, I see... good morning." (slams the door)
How fantastic..the windows and hinged doors are my favorite.
I can see how you could get so absorbed into the solitude and peace that time just melts away in there...
If you were gonna dedicate your life to a house like this why would you build it within an HOA?
There’s a lot of places where you can’t get away from HOA
It really is just easier to fight them sometimes
In a lot of places it's difficult to find a middle to upper middle class neighborhood WITHOUT an HOA.
Video didn't say anything about being built within an HOA, I suspect that is nothing more than clickbait BS for views.
HOAs are the devil
What a treasure. Make HOAs illegal.
Make this top comment.
No. We don’t need more laws. Saying that no one can have an HOA is as bad as having a bad HOA. Some areas need HOAs to distribute the cost of maintaining public spaces for the benefit of the private owners. If you don’t want to belong to any HOA, then don’t live within one, but don’t think that you have the right to tell someone else they cannot willingly participate in an HOA.
@@TwilightxKnight13 Hardly anyone actually wants to live under an HOA so I would have everyone in the designated area vote on having an HOA every few years.
HOA make a lot of sense for Condo and neighborhoods that have community swimming pools, tennis courts, and fitness centers.
@@TheBaldr If only that's where they drew the line.
The HOA eye turns towards the shire. 👁️
That is a gorgeous tribute to Tolkien.
If I won the lottery, I would move into a neighborhood with a terrible HOA and build a roller coaster park out back of my giant pirate ship house.
As an Architect I applaud the creativity and detail that has gone into the building of this structure. I wish we all could envision and see to fruition our dreams.
You have built my dream come true house. A perfect delight.
I love this Hobbit hole. I’ve studied alternative building methods from straw bale and hemp crete to timber frame. Even have an older cousin that grew up in the Sandhills of NE that grew up in a sod house. She’s 96 and the house faded back into the earth just a few years ago.😢
Boggles that the so-called land of the 'free' have things like HOAs.
This guy is his own HOA!
As a Tolkien / Arda enthusiast I love his house! I took an architecture class once and this should not be counted as a HOA violation. Not having a flat side to a door can cause problems, but only if it does not work right. His door works fine, so I would not count this against him.
Absolutely stunning, I actually gasped when I saw it! Am such a Tolkien fan ❤
I just needed to see that beautiful entrance to cry... That's probably the dream house of many us nerds of the rings... Please protect this man and his beautiful mini Shire creation!
Wow....i wish i could come over to that guy's house and just have coffee and read, while looking through his stuff lol
This is AWESOME!
What an amazing project.
Stick it, HOA!
My dream house is a large, human-sized house with an enormous library. ❤
This man is SO lucky! And some HOAs might hate it, but so many of those are run by A-holes, you'd just need to find a property outside an HOA. This looks to be one which is perfect.
Oh, to have money and land. Lovely house..
What a wonderful hobitation! I love it!❤💯
I'm more concerned about copyrights. Wait until Warner Bross lawyers hear about it 😅
WOW! This is so amazing! his love for Lord of the Rings is astounding!
His collection is so great and the house is beautiful! I seriously hope his HOA and neighbors can appreciate it as a piece of honored love and not just a house.
Friendly reminder that Lord of the Rings is actually pretty young as a book.
You see, he looks happy and thats the important!
I live in the shire and approve of this hobbit house.
Someone should build houses like this for sale.
Behind our house is a bank and I have wanted to make it look like a Hobbit house for years,or at least like the ruins of one ,with a tattered round door and some really pretty flowers like in front of Sam and Rosie's
That man is wealthy enough to not have to deal with a HOA, you see all that green and treeline around the property?
now, we need someone to build a rivendell house 🏡
I've renovated my home in Orkcore. The look is dominated by red, grey, and brown. Brown leather and brown wood. Grey concrete, grey stone, grey iron, occasionally grey stained wood such as my house number sign. Red leather, sedona red stained wood, a bit of red trim, red painted roof. Dark ages war/hunting weapons such as battleaxes, shields, and spears as decorations. Hide rugs and Navajo rugs. Raw materials and recycled materials such as barnwood tables. Exposed industrial elements such as large bolts where practical and industrial iron brackets. Pointiness added everywhere it can be done safely, such as pointy plants, pointy curtain-rods, pointy fencing, pyramid tacks, horns, antlers.
Beautiful home ... Hope you enjoy it forever !
Side note : Damned Nazi HOA's ...
Not Nazi’s - Nazgûl 😊

Rule 1: Never live in an HOA.
BEAUTIFUL design & workmanship… & the soothing blend of wood & stone is wonderfully cosy & restful. ☺️👍
Very, very cool!
who hasn't wanted to live in a hobbit house before after watching or reading LOTR or The hobbit?
Looks like a worthy Private Library.
What a shock. The HOA has a problem with a house that's not a copy paste of all the other houses.
On the inside it looks like a hobbit home but on the outside it looks more like a old house
Sharkey wants to dig it up and replace it with sheds and mills.
It looks like he must have spent what was left of his share of the troll’s horde.
We make the world around us every day through our words and actions, and this man made the world a more beautiful place
My absolute favorite dream house is a Smile. (That’s what the hole in the ground houses are called. Only the poorest or the richest hobbits lived in them.)
I want to live there… looks like paradise ❤
What a wonderful house❤
I think Tolkien would be impressed at the ingenuity that went into making something that his books inspired.
It's BEAUTIFUL!!!😮😊
No idea what a hoa violation is but that house is beautiful.
The house is gorgeous!
Beautiful home.
I can imagine sam showing up and complaining that he doesn’t have a deed to the house or something. Or that it requires a garden or green grass.
If they don't like this house, they don't deserve to be in your presence, tell them to get bent and carry on with what it is you were doing before they came by to harass you.
In a hole in the ground, there lived a Tolkien collector. He was no ordinary Hobbit: he was a descendent of Mr Peregrine Took on his father side, and of Elboron, son of Faramir and Éowyn, on his mother side. This meant that not only did The Collector have Tookish blood - which the HOA came to find out at a dear cost - but also that Stewards of Gondor and kings of the Mark.
And every time this gentleman enters his Hobbit house what does he say? “I’m back…”
It’s a little too obsessed - but I guess we all have to do something. I commend your creativity and dedication.
To the HOA, everything is a violation
HOA are ridiculous. My mom lives in one. One of the property owners cut down a protected tree. He skipped town and all the homeowners that were left were stuck with a $50,000 fine from the State of Florida. My mom is disabled and shouldn’t have to put up with this crap.
Amazingly beautiful.
Beautiful house. You've done a wonderful job with it. ❤😊
Wonderful house. Where was the part about HOA violation?
That was me being snarky. That house definitely violates most HOA covenants
@@gossamer1234
HOA only exist in suburban developments.

Beautiful work, bravo brother.
This is magical and beautiful. I love it his forge was in Hobbiten!
If only houses like this were built more often. The best you can get in the US these days is plywood lego shacks that they want $400,000 for
Gorgeous.
A bird feeder is an HOA violation.
Stunning ❤
Id love to send this man some painted lotr warhammer to add to that beautiful collection
No. I think it's neat and a beautiful whimsy. ❤
Not Everyone marches to the same drummer. 😊
Confusticate and bebother HOA! This is awesome.
I can't fathom why anyone would willingly want to be part of an HOA. Nobody tells me what color to paint my door.
Ohhhhhh those windows 💕
What a wonderful idea! 🥰
I love it!!!! Tolkien fan here!
I wonder if he allows visitors It will be very cool if he allows like-minded people to visit his house 😊😊😊
Beautiful! Bilbo would approve.
Wow. In addition to a beautiful, magnificent house, this is also a beautiful piece of property! I love then landscape and your description of the peace and quiet.
Where is this?
That is really really cool! What fun you can have when you have a lot of money!
I will never not laugh at the fact that "the land of the free" doesn't have control over the homes they own. 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Very cool, Bilbo would be right at home there.
Simply beautiful
Anyone who objects to something as cool as this needs to rethink their purpose in life.
