Hi Nicole, thank you for sharing your lovely new plants with us. They are beautiful! I'd llike to offer a suggestion that might help with your Philodendron El Choco Red. When a plant is suffering from root rot, that is not a good time to try to root it in water. Too much moisture is what caused the problem in the first place. These are aroids, which means the roots need air to breathe. Because the existing roots were not grown in water, they are not acclimated to that environment and will likely continue to die off. Generally, when rooting in water, a healthy plant will adapt and put out new water-roots, but a stressed plant may not be able to do that (at least not right away or soon enough to save the plant). My recommendation would be to move your Philodendron El Choco Red into some long fiber Sphagnum Moss, which will provide the plant with plenty of moisture while also giving the remaining roots some room to breathe. I've always used Sphagnum Moss when rehabbing plants, and it has never failed me. Good luck!

Good advice! I also have treated root rot with 3 percent hydrogen peroxide and than kept it in moss. Not sure with aroids but I would imagine it would work for them as well.

I’ve found when things are rotting, I take off all the rot an let it lay out in the air too dry for many hours, 2, 3 I saved my Thai this way. Also with import Anthuriums, I put them in Super Thrive water over night an pot them up next morning. If the roots are white an healthy they do better potted than setting in water. Love the plants you got Nichole 💚 Mellisa gives good advice😀

@@sherryporsch9349 Do you also treat the existing healthy roots with peroxide or no? I never used super thrive but I think I will try it.

I got my el choco from them around the same time you got yours. All my leaves died and I had massive root rot. I contacted them and they are sending a replacement. In the meantime I cut the chonk into 2 different plants, put them in leca with moss around the stem and popped them on my grow tent. One of them has 2 growth points while the other is still stuck and hasn’t budged. Good luck hope your choco comes back

Hello, there’s a solution I’ve done whenever the roots die and the leaves turn very floppy because there’s no water going into the plant so I take a knife or scissors and I cut a very small slice from the already calloused stem so that the plant can intake water making it a stronger plant ready to put water roots. It works 90% of the time.

I just imported a Pastazanum from equagenera. It was my first import and it looks amazing 2 weeks later. Left it in water for a week then transfered to soil with perlite. Thanks for sharing your import and sending good vibes to the El Choco Red!

We had a Ecuagenera pop-up in March and there'll be another in August in Seattle. I'm very tempted to buy some then😍

Aloha from Maui, Hawaii….. I so enjoyed your unboxing. Tomorrow I am expecting delivery of my very 1st Ecuagenera Ecuador order. It was recommended that I upgrade my shipping to 3 day Express USPS, @ additional $60. Normal USPS to Hawaii takes 5 days from Florida. But it takes 3 days to journey from Ecuador to Florida, so I decided to invest the extra $60 for 3 day Express USPS.
Previously I’ve had three separate orders from EcuageneraUS, and all my plants came with their pots still on. So I’m also glad your video prepared me to receive my order bare roots. I will probably follow your lead, & let my new anthuriums accumulate in water for several days, & keep them in clear totes also. Thank you very much.
Maybe I will have happily experienced my unboxing, by the time you read this comment, haha…..

I agree totally with Melissa about putting your struggling plant in sphagnum to save it unfortunately water may continue to make it rot!

When importing plants I only leave them in water for 24 hours, I have purchased from Ecuagenera and Greenspace ID. All my plants are thieving except for one out of 23 plants that I have ordered.

"All my plants are thieving"??? What does that mean, that they are still costing your money over and over and over again?????

I would cut the dead roots and leaves, use some rooting hormone, set them in perlite with some water. All the energy for the plant should be put toward healing the plant not toward dead leaves and roots! Good luck! They are all beautiful and Im sure will be fine!

Never imported plants before, too lazy to rehab them haha. Don’t really do well with bare rooted plants unless they are snake plants or cacti. Good to know that anthuriums ship well though!

Create a simple terrarium and place your chunk in there. Give it some nice dappled light. Like from under a shaded tree. You’ll get new growth. But you need to create a warm some what humid place. I would say about 60% humidity would do the trick.

They always want me to upgrade the shipping and I never do. I am in California. I think they still put the plants on the plane in Florida . I always get them 2 days later.
Don’t feel bad to spend $200. One time I placed my order and I paid over $1000 😩😩😩

I imported from Ecuagenera as well and got them in March. As soon as I got my gloriossum and my choco red I submerged them in filtered water and left in there for about 2 hours. After that I removed them from the water and placed them in jars with clean filtered water and I put those in clear bins on a heat mat close to a sliding door about 5 feet away. After exactly one week I potted everything. You’ve got to remember that a lot of the philodendron roots are very thin. Also on my choco red I lost 3 leaves in transit but had a new growth that just fully opened today. My gloriosum i lost one or two leafs and the new growth point with the leaf the leaf dried out due to way too low humidity I am thinking. But it is normal for them to loose leafs specially incoming and fairly new ones. Our home temperatures are vastly different from where they develop. They are coming from soil in a very humid damp warm location with warm breezes. Although I am unable and unwilling to give it 80% humidity it will acclimate but that will take a bit of time of the plant not doing anything. Also you need to pot both your philodendrons or you will loose them.

It is hard to say which one is the best. The ones that I've ordered from all have good customer service. I ordered some in Fall, Winter and Spring and the plants all react differently. Ecuagenera is cheap and no need to worry about the phyto certificate. Other places might charge you a little bit more on the shipping.
