In this gothic romance set at the turn of the 20th century, a mysterious stranger named Sir Thomas Sharpe (Tom Hiddleston) woos young author Edith Cushing (Mia Wasikowska) and brings her as his bride to his mansion atop a clay mountain in Cumbria, England. People complaining on how the love scene was too short or unrealistic should maybe watch the movie again to understand the context of it. Now, I don´t want to sound rude, but I´m pissed off with such comments.
Let us look at it again, to understand it. We see first how Alan gets some informations about the Sharpe´s past, that already is unsetting and makes the dark shadow appear clearer. The location changes to a small bedroom in far away England, where Edith and Thomas found shelter in a snow storm. From here on so much happens. They talk about her story and the characters (his fascination with her storys), about change, about past ("You always look to the past."). We may not forget that this is not only her first time, but actually also his, his first healthy love. There is no poisoned darkness of Allerdale Hall, the picture is filled with warm yeallow light (like back in New York).
If you dont like it, go watch something like Game Of Thrones, because Crimson Peak is very sophisticated.
