    When she says, "Merry Christmas, Mummy!" 😍 My kiddos tell me Happy Birthday all the time. It's almost the same as "I love you" for them. 😂

    Very impressive wardrobe of knits in one year with lots of great learning along the way about gauge, colour, yarn choice, fit, practicality, etc. I am so impressed with all the young knitters, who are making complex patterns and designing your own knits after such a short time knitting. I have been knitting for over 60 years and still feel very much an intermediate knitter and have made few adult sweaters. Brava!

    Still binge watching your videos. I'm so glad to find someone that finds the ranunculus a bit confusing. I feel like the only person in the world who hasn't knit it but each time I've tried I get confused with the beginning and it just turns me off and I end up doing yet another Lovenote, which is a easy beautiful knit.

    I am very excited for when your Little Sparks sweater comes out, and I even have the yarn on hand to start it when it is released. Having said that, everything takes some time. I worked for years with entrepreneurs and engineers -- everything requires prototypes and testing and adjustments in order to manifest in the world. Your School Run mitts were my go-to for gifts! Thank you for this episode, and for sharing your journey!

    This is a fun podcast! I find the three questions that you ask of each garment are really informative. Along with that, the bright yellow Felix looks really great on you and the sizing is nicely current. If were you I would wear it more often. I’ve watched you from your beginning podcast and see how it’s possible to grow your knitting skills pretty quickly over a year. Kudos!

    Lovely knitting.
    A really easy way to figure out your colors comes from a book ' Color Me Beautiful'. You simply look at your wrist in natural light. If the veins there look greenish, warm based colors look best on you. Think orange, gold, warm yellows, olive greens, warm blues, browns. If the veins look blue, cool based colors look best like pinks, cool purples and blue, greens on the mint side, blue greens, cool greys look wonderful. There is a bit more involved, such as lighter version of 'your' colors if you have lighter eyes and hair, darker, deeper versions if you have dark hair and eyes. It is all about if a color complements your skin tone. The same can be said for choosing hair dyes. We have all seen a warm blonde dye job that somehow looks off, but if the same person chooses a cool ash blonde next time around, they look fantastic.
    That book is definitely worth a look at. It has saved me a lot of money by not making clothing mistakes. Same with buying gift clothing for others. And all the clothes in your wardrobe will automatically be mix and match!
    Edit: added more colors.

    I just watched your video and even though it’s a few months old it was fun to see your process and progress as a Knitter and designer. I think you should dye the first one that you showed - the mohair with the pinks that don’t quite match. You could dye and make it a color that you enjoy even though the fit isn’t great it looks like something that would be comfortable to throw on and it’s probably a good midseason something to throw on just to keep nice and warm and cozy. 😍🦊Congratulations on your pattern I love your color work sweaters both of them beautiful. This was my favorite episode of yours so far!! Even tho I’ve seen all of these knits before it was great to hear you talk about them retrospectively with each of your questions! There was so much that I got from this but the thing that stands out most to me is how ADVANCED you’ve gotten in such a short period of time! If I remember correctly you’ve only been knitting for a few years right? You have so many FO’s and now you’re designing! Incredible! And all your fears with moving forward with this design will hopefully be set aside when you get thru the Soufflé. Of course there will be issues that’s what testing is for! So many lovely sweaters Laura! Even though they’re not your favourites, I loooove your Felix Sweater and Cedar Lane Sweater and I think it’s because I love mustard yellow 💛 2021 also taught me to be more thoughtful of my knitting choices, and I ended up doing a big stash purge at the beginning of the year to get rid of yarns I didn’t see myself wearing so I could make room for yarns I DO see myself wearing. For me, that means out with all the crazy variegated skeins that caught my eye in the yarn store, and in with more neutrals!

    Little Sparks is by far my favourite. I'm watching to get motivation to start knitting again and I enjoy learning knitting things and seeing all the beautiful things you create. I only knitted little things like scarves, blankets, and baby booties years ago. My mom is going to visit (from Manitoba) and while she is here (BC )I will search out all my stashed yarn and finish up a baby blanket, baby hat (that was for my daughter when she was a baby but is somehow now 13) and I think I have the yarn for a hat. Hats are new to me and dpn scare me a little or I'll attempt a cowl. Keep creating it's magical.

      @_laurapenrose_  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Aw that’s great to hear cindy!!! I also dislike dpns so interchangeable circular needles are a great option for tou. For an adult hat you’ll need a 40cm cable, or you could learn magic loop but that’s a little trickier but worth it!!! X

I look forward to knitting a sweater one of these days. Thank you for working so hard to make your patterns size inclusive. I like doing the traditional bind off sometimes on sweaters because I don’t want my binding being stretchy because I’ve done those and it sometimes stretches out over time…

    Ahhh talking of your Cedar Lane, I'm strange for grading/size inclusivity, I have bigger arms so actually need more stitches in the arms than the rest of the torso

    I agree with you on the Ranunculus. I am an experienced knitter and recently knitted it for the first time. I was basically drawn in by all the hype. After completing the body and one long sleeve, I tried it on and although I quite liked it, I decided it was not for me. I didn’t enjoy the pattern at all and decided I could make better use of the yarn (Knitting for Olive Silk) with something else. It’s extremely rare for me to not complete something and also to unravel an object.

    Hiya, I don't know how much is the lighting where you were sitting as picked up by the camera, but I really liked the way the golden yellow lit up your face. If you're not convinced another jumper that colour is worth trying, would you consider a hat? Your skin really glowed, wearing it.

    Loved your honesty with regards to the yarns and especially the patterns. I’ve knitted two Felix sweaters and found the necks don’t sit ‘quite right’ - I’ve just finished my fourth Flax jumper ( three were gift knits) and I enjoyed them, especially the lettlopi one. I love lettlopi! Which brings me to ask you if you’d release your pattern for your ‘Cedar Lane’ jumper? I love it and can envisage it in cream/beige and bitter chocolate colours! I’m about to make a Seaborn tee . I think it’s a great idea for you to write a vest pattern, I’d love that too. I’m excited about both your Sparks sweaters - I can’t wait!😍
    Why can’t you be my daughter as my daughter bakes the most beautiful celebration cakes but doesn’t knit!🤦🏼‍♀️She’s sorry now. Neither do my two sons come to think of it.🙄I’m trying to teach my two granddaughters (5&6 - sisters) it’s a task as the six year old thinks she’s mastered it now as ‘I did all that last week so I’ll sit over here and watch you, ok?”😂Thanks again for your company.😍💐

      Honestly, I’ve got so many more ideas that’s I’d rather work on than the cedar lane and I’ve learned that to continue to be productive and enjoy my craft, I need to follow my inspiration! So I may revisit it in the future, I may not. You could always colour block a flax sweater and split the hem!! Thank you so much for watching! X

    Usually I get very distracted with background noises in videos (or my own environment when I’m watching videos)… but P singing and playing in the background is SO precious. Love it! Thanks for sharing your year of sweater knitting with us!

    So interesting to see how your knits are faring. I'm glad you reminded me about the Seaborn Tee definitely on my to do list this year. I was surprised to see a summer top made from worsted weight yarn, does the cotton/viscose/linen blend make it feel lighter?

    • @_laurapenrose_
      @_laurapenrose_  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is much lighter than I thought it would be, but it’s definitely more of a summer evening or spring day garment I think! X

    Have you considered over dyeing the novice sweater? It could solve the different color sleeve situation (which does look intentional and cool) and maybe to have a color that you like better!

    I love your Chunky Dahlia. I checked out the pattern on Ravelry and the description is written in Danish (i think). Do you know if the pattern is written in English? Your knits are gorgeous and you definitely inspire me to knit many things. 😊

    I love your Sparks sweater and can’t wait for you to publish it so that I can knit it 😁💖 Quick question about your Novice sweater - did you use just Rowan Kid Silk? The pattern says to combine it with another yarn, did you just double up the mohair? Thanks

    • @_laurapenrose_
      @_laurapenrose_  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I did the mohair edition which is three strands held together I think, or maybe two, it was a long time ago 🤣

      @@_laurapenrose_ oh wow, thanks for your quick reply, I obviously didn’t look closely enough at the pattern as I didn’t see a pure mohair choice. Thank you (love your review and your personal patterns 😁👍🧶)
