    #2 and #3 in “reasons why I left” is sooo true for many Sys Engineers. I think we get into Sys Engr thinking “wow! Servers, virtualization, scripting, programming, little bit of networking, data centers.” And then 1 year in you realize...it’s the same thing day after day and you get bored. You hit a learning wall and I think this is the main reason why Sys Engrs jump around a ton.

    I had a habit of staying in places way too long. It can really kill your learning and your value on the market.

      Arvin Vernon Rivera I know exactly how you feel. But it’s good that you are now at least thinking about it. It’s possible that your job could still allow growth so that’s something else to explore.

      It really depends on what you want to do within IT. If you are preparing for something like Helpdesk you can get a few cheap refurbished windows computers and mess around with them. If you are going to power intensive things you may want to get a Dell XPS or HP Spectre if you want to be on the windows side or a good ole MacBook Air or Pro

    I'm starting to feel like #2 & #3. My job isn't that hard and the pay is fair, but sometimes I don't feel like we utilize newer technology. I read about it all the time in my study books, but it's not the same has hands on.

    Great video. So as someone looking to make the transition into the IT field (with no college degree) what would you recommend I should do to land my first role? Either as a helpdesk or junior level position

    • @pushtoprod
      @pushtoprod  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Funny you ask this as we should have a video dropping soon that is related to this topic.
      Any who I recommend watching a lot of free youtube videos on topics like "Things all IT professionals should know", "Basic IT troubleshooting", "IT support training" and similar topics. Basically you should be able to learn everything you need for free without paying for a course.

      Starting out Network may get paid more but when it comes to growth I believe systems is the way to go. It can transition into many other things like SRE, DevOps, Cloud and more
