I think I would have the rabbit in the headlights look when asked some of these questions, even though I have pretty good experience with most of those technologies. Some people in IT are good at doing but not so good at explaining things.
Excellent video. I have been a Senior Virtualization Engineer for quite a while and am about to interview for a Senior Systems Engineer position. This was a great refresher for that mind frame.
I have done many interviews. Good questions. I would throw some security questions in there. Also how they go about optimizing their AD, vSphere and storage environments. Maybe monitoring tools they use. possibly DR and PM strategies. But you only have about 2 hours right--lol
Good one, also never base decisions on certifications that the engineer has, Ive met so many so called Paper Senior systems /network engineers with a long list of credentials, but when you ask them to do something simple for their relative role they have no clue and turn out to be not more experienced than a L1 or Helpdesk..this is a great way to weed out candidates who dont suit these roles... just my 2 cents, love this industry (mostly!!) and your videos are awesome mate, keep it up!
@@RetaliationOG I always pass but than they say I need to improve my German language... and covid did it best to send me quickly back home so I use my time for web programing... I bought embroidery machine for some income and now building web shops...
These are really good mate, thanks. I use your videos to remind myself. Can you make one angled towards Senior systems engineer? How would that differ from this one?
Thanks for your comment, glad you found it helpful! A senior is more of a SME across various technologies mentioned, They would be the escalation point for System Engineers. Hope that helps.
Hello, please let me know which linux command( other than creating, deleting directory)will be ask in interview for Jr System Engineer for freshers. And which networking question will be ask. Please let me know How do I prepare for the Jr System Engineer Interview. Please Reply Fast.
Your interview sounds like you are more focused on the on-prem side of things, this video was uploaded in 2018, I am sure cloud tech was existing way before then. Ask things on; Docker, Ansible for configuration, orchestration technologies like Kubernetes, CI/CD, Agile methods, System Design, and all that. The world is advancing towards all that now. Again, this interview will work for people who do have not much interest in cloud tech, and sadly, cloud providers have solved problems with all this physical tech by bringing to us the cloud tech they offer. However, it's a nice series of questions to assess technicality.
I just graduated college, how does one get experience in this field? I would hardly know how to answer many of these questions. Is it likely to get a job as a sys engineer right out of college, not having much experience? Or should I focus on a different role and build my way up? I graduated with a degree in computer engineering.
Certs. Taking comptia Security+ will get you that aspect of understanding. Network+ will get you basic networking fundamentals. Then work your way up to CASP, CCNA, and CISSP.
Tomorrow I have my first intrview for sysadmin linux in english (I'm spanish native speaker) thank for your advice and tell me the most popular questions. Regards.
Digital Byte Computing it was really informative but please make a video clip from all these questions and answers if you really like to have subscribe and likes from your viewers thanks and appreciate in advance! All the best
Hi, thanks for your comment. I made this video giving some ideas on possible questions. My recommendation is to research and find the answers to these as that will make you a better IT professional, and you will learn more this way. Hope that helps.

I generally wouldn’t expect everyone to get all of these, but it’s a good list to aim for :)

A bit of a confusing title. Systems engineering is quite different from (PC) system administration.
Agree completely. The video is OK, but I came to see completely different content.
Rest In Peace
I passed al questins mr IT manager, I would like to know why you wear a hat indoors. Do you guys pay to little to put the heater on?
