A lot of memories with this video. We were a veedub family. Our 67 1300 deluxe beetle was followed by a 1600 fastback auto. Our final dub was a 1973 Kalahari tan 1700 auto microbus. It was $4400 when a Fairlane was about $4000. My mum, who died just before Christmas at 92, absolutely loved that thing. Thanks for bringing so many memories back tonight :)
🇦🇺 Kudos to the owner of the Kombi van, looks fantastic. Whilst I have no need for the ID Buzz, it looks absolutely gorgeous in that colour scheme. However, over $100k for a single motor EV is ridiculous!
Some of the scoffing comments here made me laugh, but when you remind me it's single motor... Yeah I get it. It's pretty poor value when you compare to the Tesla model Y. On the other hand though, Model Y is a 5 seater. Kia EV9 is probably the best comparison currently as a 7 seat electric SUV and that's starting from over 100k for a single motor rwd too. Chinese manufacturers will be set to smash this segment in coming years for sure.
@@JoshuaMcTackett While I'm very much against supporting the CCP, their push into Australia does mean more competition and that's exactly what we need to bring the prices down. The brands we already know and love will come down (and also no doubt add more) as the competition from CCP companies ramps up.
My uncle owned a 1969 Beetle with side lever blinkers. He broke a fan belt on his way to Queensland and used his wife’s stocking as a replacement! It also floated during floods!
My '77 Microbus, Grasshopper Green, was AIR-CONDITIONED!!!! York Compressor, same as in Falcon/Fairlane, massive Condensor underneath with 4 cooling fans, and a T-Shaped Evaporator hanging from the ceiling - with 4 or 5 outlets. Worked well.
Interesting the name Combi must be an Australian thing as a friend of mine growing up his parents had a VW Bus and it was never called a Combi that was in Canada.
No. We did and still use the name Combi in English and Kombi in Afrikaans in South Africa. The Germans use it for other stationwagons too. Borgward Kombi
The price really hurts, I hope that VW stick with it and higher volumes, and cheaper battery prices will allow it to slowly come down in price over time
Love the orignal Micro-bus. The new ID-Buzz is way too expensive, and not in standing with the original Kombi's ethos. The ID-Buzz will be the ride of choice for the well-heeled hipster, and not for the common man, I heard that the starting price in Australia is going to be around $120,000 on road, which is way too much.

'Solid 44 years of age". You and me both, Combi :)

Great review and fun to watch. Pricing will be the main challenge for VAG.
Cool video!
Just a note - the conversions between kW / hp and Nm and ft-lb is incorrect...
51kw = 72hp, not 140hp
Love both the old and the new. I would consider the ID Buzz as my first EV. :)

Come on VW, bring it here under the LCT. Gorgeous looking car, I’d happily trade my Tesla in for it.
Really looks like a cool car! It's not for me personally but I can see them being a winner.
Definitely a strong competititor for the EV9

Now, if only the ID buzz was a diesel
An electric people mover with so many funny designs and a price of just over $100k would make it competitive in the market.
51kW ist not 140 hp
I had a 1964 splitty Kombi sitting in the paddock at home, i was going to do a full restore of it until my parents sold it out from under me >:-(
Captain Joe key ring👌
How many ID buzz will be on the road in 45 years!?
give me the simplistic old design
EV’s = A real frigging nightmare. Pity VW didn’t bring out a petrol or diesel powered Buzz.
$100k 😂😂😂🤣🤣WHAT A JOKE!
Guess you're not their target market
how else will they make the money back when they blow up?
It only took them 20 years to bring it to production. Unfortunately no petrol. Maybe that’s why it took them 20 years.
1:28 Oops. IAC who needs a stupid conversion anyway? I'm serious.
So slow for an EV, VW doesn’t know how to make EV’s.

No EV for me until insurance companies figure out cheaper repairs. Premiums are going through the roof.
Just got a renewal notice for my $80k Kia EV6. Only $100 more per year than my 9 year old Skoda Octavia ($30k new).
@@amperformance7998 who through if you don’t mind me asking? Budget direct wanted $3500 for a model 3
