Excellent video. I have just bought the Ferrino Popote Maxi - it looks virtually identical. It was the last one in stock and a bargain price, I'm very pleased with it. Keep on making videos, you do a great job.
Wow that's an awesome cookset! I didn't know Ferrino had one of these, THANKS!! It's more like an Alocs CW-C05 than the Robens, but yeah it's great. It's on sale right now for 65€ which is a great price IMHO. Has it lasted or did you bend, break or scratch it too much in one year?
I finally purchased one of these as it seems Robens have stopped selling them unless an updated version is on the horizon for 2023. Some are being sold at reduced prices, perhaps they are being stock cleared. I want this so I can easily use some of my remote gas and multi fuel stoves such as my SOTO Stormbeaker. Paired with the cookery king it should make an awesome combination and save fuel due to the windshield. Like the fact it’s all anodised aluminium.
That's interesting that they have stopped selling them now. I wonder if they'll release an updated version like you suggested. Hopefully because this is handy little stove system!
@@SnowyAspenHillshow’s it holding up? Do you like it or is it too fiddly? Is the coating ok or scratched and damaged already? (Also, do you have the anodized or Non-stick?)
@@pedroclaro7822 It’s all good 👍 I like it and I use it with my SOTO Stormbreaker. Mine is hard anodised, I didn’t know there was a non stick version. I would choose hard anodised even if I had known there was a choice.
@@SnowyAspenHills idk if it was so back then, but I looked again and the king pro version now comes with the nonstick pan, which I don’t recall. Yeah I’d go anodized as well.
This is a great kit. I just wish it had a taller windscreen like the trangia. As for price, you'd have to spend double what this costs for a fully anodized Trangia set, and you don't get the nice simmer adjuster, no pot height adjustment, no lid. And you'd have to pay extra 10 for a trangia cutting board. It's a little flimsier but still the best value for money cookset out there. I'd say this is ideal for bicycle touring as well - you'll be on the road a long time and want to have actual food, not dehidrated meals or just a simple one pot meal all the darn time. although one pot and the frying pan would probably be enough if you could buy bread instead of having one extra pot for boiling rice and pasta. The smaler pot is a nice bowl to eat out of, especially if you make a pot cozy like the Soto Navigator has. I'd suggest swapping out the cutting board for the trangia multidisc, the pot grabber for one with springs that you can use as tongs for grilling, and adding a sturdy canvas carry pouch. Maybe even a silicone lid to use one of the pots as a lunchbox, to store dry-ish cooked meals inside one of the pots - cooking for every single meal can be cumbersome.
Thanks for taking the time to comment! Glad to hear you enjoyed the video. The acting skills may make a comeback in future videos! Thank you guys, hope you stay safe too! Hopefully not too long before we start returning back to normal! 🐶🐾🐾
Thanks Eddie! We really appreciate you taking the time to leave us a message. I know what you mean, Gear Acquisition Syndrome is something we all suffer from I think! 😂
Whilst I agree that the hole in the side to control the flame is super handy, and this is why I bought the 'Alocs 7 Piece' version of this 10 piece cookset, however, for sheer robustness and cooking options, you cannot beat a Trangia 27 non-stick version with the added Tundra lid for the pot and the kettle which nests in the pot when packed away. This gives you a non-stick frying pan, two non-stick pots and a kettle. With the addition of the cutting disk, you also get a cutting board and a colander.
It’s a really good question, but we’ve never tried it. I’ve been thinking about trying it so next time we get it out we’ll give it a go and see how well it works and if the stove can take it.
There is another pro or con depending upon how one views it, with this kit the frying pan goes inside the wind baffle (unlike the Trangia which suffers when frying if it's windy) but the downside is that the frying pan is smaller relative to the size of the windscreen. Seriously considering this kit though like the versatility of this set and fact it’s easy to use your stove of choice or alcohol.
1:50 No he didn't...he really used the edge of the knife to produce sparks. That's just brutal. Sharpen the spine of the blade or use a sharp piece of carbon metal. From a survival perspective, using the blade is like throwing away food.
You’re absolutely right! It’s like changing gear without using the clutch. 😂 Don’t be like me people. Use the spine of the blade to do it right especially if you’re using a nice knife, or just use a striker. Thankfully I was using an old, cheap, crappy knife from AliExpress so I don’t feel too bad about it.
I bought the esbit set for the heat exchanger pots which work well, but the side port on the Robens for the damper would be perfect. They just dont sell Robens in the US.
Oh no, that's such a shame! We would have though that they sell Robens internationally. We just checked out the ESBIT set and it looks like such a cool little stove. I bet it fits nicely in a backpack. They pictures I've seen all show it with alcohol stoves, do you think you could use it with gas, similar to a JetBoil?
I’ve tried this fiddly chinese Trangia-knock off under another brandname and beside one or two good ideas, the little window and the possibility to adjust the potstand, there is no reason not to go with the real Trangia.
@@PitchAndPaws There's an Alocs CW-C05, and the Ferrino Popote Maxi, which are knockoffs of the robens. There's the Esbit 2350 for 3 or more people, more efficient and a lot more stable so that's nice. There's the UK version for scouts Endurance lava 400 Stove, which I would get if they offered shipping to the EU. I think the kit was released around Brexit... You also have the Tatonka Multiset. Stainless steel is nice, like the Duossal. There's also unbranded chinese knockoffs which are outright copies of the aluminum basic trangia for 50€, and i've also found one with an encapsulating aluminum billy pot for 60€ on aliexpress, just look up "10pcs alcohol cooking set" The biggest problem all these except the esbit is fuel boil time, the trangia burner beats them all AFAIK. And I would not trust the cheap aluminum versions due to possible toxicity.
Its a good kit, but there is less to go wrong less hassle with trangia also l have used trangia burners in the past they last a lot longer in burn time than chinese copies the price for chinese cook kit is high trangia much better product with plenty of spear parts anywhere in the world
We have had this for a while now and it’s still working as expected so we’re still happy with it. One thing is for sure though, the Trangia can be found everywhere! We’ve been to a few camping shops recently and we found Trangias in all of them but we still haven’t seen this around anywhere so in terms of spare parts and availability I think you’re absolutely right!
