@ No. It means beating the market which is a very specific percentage of returns, not some number relative to competition that literally can’t even be calculated… You really didn’t think this through.
@@SuitsGuy Alpha is excess return relative to a benchmark; the standard benchmark is the overall performance of the market, but it applies equally to a basket of competitor funds as long as that is the benchmark used.
I got spanked 2nd time I used leverage, First time was a little win, 2nd time lesson learnt, Build up the pot of money slowly but surly, Fool and his money are easily parted
My experience was in reverse. I had 2 margin calls in 2008. I got lucky this year and killed the market. But lesson learned too. I was more lucky than right. I’m not playing at that scale again. I may do margin again, but not 2 houses worth.
@ I got really lucky and bought good companies that were distressed with the money I didn’t think I needed for retirement. You have a solid plan. Keep the siren of quick money away from the money you need. And keep in mind that the more money you need, the less time you may have to enjoy it. Kick ass my friend.

Alpha just means edge above the competition. Yes, Alpha means beating competing funds.
