The bells are unringable. The steelwork to prevent the bells from being swung is a bad idea as they prevent any slight movement of the bells when struck by the type of chiming hammers that are fitted. Bells four and five are very rare castings, possibly cast locally by a French refugee founder. The frame also contains timbers of different ages and some of the timber may be pre-reformation.

What's the purpose of the cables around the steel joists? Are they to break the fall of anything that comes loose?
