How did we do on this big job? It was a bit challenging as we tried to maneuver all the ways to get this generator in the bottom of the boat! We think we did a pretty good job working through all the complications! How many of you have had this done? We are working on another generator install but we plan to take it apart and installing it while the yacht is down on the docks.
During the generator lift, I appreciated no ego’s were flying around. Good job working as a team, and respecting everyone’s thought on how to accomplish the task!! Great video!!
Yes we try not to have ego’s …. We work best with humble people that are extremely smart! 😮
You are a true professional, and mindful of cost!!!
Thank you so much from Mobile, Al.
It’s important because otherwise you have unhappy customers!
The generator is how it’s done. My diy marina has a fork truck that has extendable capability, making it very easy. Some boat manufacturers just don’t think that anything will ever need servicing. I change my shaft seals with an entirely new PYI/PSS every other bottom job. If I had to remove that motor every time I would sell…. 😀
PYI/PSS is Matt’s favorite shaft seal! We sent that 72ft north because the whole deck or back end had to be cut off because it had all the salt water damage in the engine room. The 2 generators, 2 sea keepers all needed to be removed. Crazy how they build boats!
Way to go with that challenge.
Thanks Terry …. Our guys did an amazing job!
I really enjoy the Channel. I grew up around the water and boats. I love seeing people wrench as I have NO skills. Keep up the good work! This is my first time chiming in as I have been watching for a long time. Thanks for sharing everything with us.
Thanks for sharing…. Comment more often it helps us learn too 😆appreciate you!
Great episode! Stay safe and keep rolling! 👍👍
👍 yup still rolling!
i would have used a forklift jib. that's a 5-ton forklift so maybe a six-foot jib would have worked out great.
We have both but it didn’t have the maneuverability as the lull!
We used to do many high HP water pumps for the studio and chain falls are a must. They make mini ones and also forklift extensions but I'm sure it's not your pickle fork. I do like for safety is to have double C clamps on each side of the fork to control chain.........Nice to see you all worked together.........a rarity now days :)
When we have big jobs it takes a team. Our guys work together a lot. Learning helping etc.
The easiest way, since this isn't your first lift. Make a cross bar to fit the forks, then attach a chain fall to drop it down.
It was all about the clearance. Was a tight fit!
Nice work....invest in fork lift extensions.
Thanks we rarely do this type of job!
Great job on the generator. The only thing I could add that may of helped is remove the fence from behind the forks on the lift. That would have given more over head clearance. Those are made to come off for just such occasion. That was surely a tight spot.
Boats have lots of tight spots 🥴 thanks for sharing!
Very good job.
Thanks Paul it was a process!
I have installed a few by using a Lull like the one you rented, I also use a stinger and align the unit over the whole and let the chain fall let it down.
Yes we’ve done the same thing!
Good job guys
Thanks it was a project as you can see!
Awesome! You need to hire an 800 gorilla and 2-3 oompa loompas. They would work for bananas and chocolate respectively.
Bring your crew down we will sub contract you … sounds like FUN! 🤩
Could use a telescoping jib boom that goes on the forks of the truck. Hope that helps.
Thanks for sharing William.
Recommend installing a trailer hitch ball on on fork tip to secure the chain
Not a bad idea I will let Matt know.
man !! thats a job !
Yup …. But we did pretty good working it out! 😊
You guys should make up an extension for the Lull forks for jobs like that.
Thanks we rarely do this type of job out of the water.
And most important thing is you didn’t drop it and nobody got hurt it’s a win-win
👍🙏🙏👍👍 that’s the most important part!
Fork boom?
Shaft seal replace after gen install?
Ladders and tools out while gen in way?
A boom didn’t maneuver enough! Yes we have to do the shaft seal and a few other things.
Great video. How did you know the cockpit floor was strong enough to hold the genny for a while
Good question! Prolly only weighed about 400 lbs.
Total pros
That’s our goal!
If you guys had used a 2x4 to push generator out as you lowered it it would slide past openings to get where you needed to go
Yes possibly! 👍
We did something like this at the marina I work at and we built a heavy duty gentry for sliding side to side but I know yall can't do that being a mobile marine repair
Yes for sure 👍
@WillFixThat but what I think would work for yall that is portable low profile jib Crain for forklifts and if yall know how to weld build a custom one
Need a fork extension
Yes we have one but not enough maneuverability.
You guys rule. I would have come straight from stern middle after dropping it on the deck reset to stern. But wtf do I know. lol my Kohler 5e only weighs 200 pounds. Lol
Definitely takes some maneuvering, communication and thought before hand! These guys did awesome as the video is rolling all live! ❤
@@WillFixThat you guys work really well together!!!! Ice tea and iced coffee for everyone!!!! Lol
@@johnfkeatinghaha 31 years of TRYING to work together 😂 …. Yes most of our guys love coffee!
No maintenance needed ever with electric motors. Ha Ha
Wish that was true 🤣
