You need to get everything IN WRITING! I am way old and learned this lesson too. People’s word is no longer in good as it was in my grandfather’s time. Make sure you do this always.
I just put a new turbo & catalytic converter in my Ford edge, and the total price was was just over $2000. And this was July 2023. I would make him buy the vehicle from you or honor what he quoted, because he’s completely taken advantage of you.
Kyle!! We have been yelling at the screen since you bought the VW camper, “STOP BUYING OLD MACHINERY!” It’s cool looking and sometimes cheap, but it’s a bottomless money-sucking pit!
Yup! I’ve done the money pot dive with cool looking but very old cars/trucks that can only be saved if you’re Jay Leno. Sell everything but one fav and get you a new, dependable vehicle. I hated the thought of payments - but when i finally did it - i was amazed at how de- stressed i became. I had no idea how much tension i was holding. What a relief. I paid double payments and before i knew it - i wad debt- free!
I know it’s fun to drive older vehicles, but I wrote this originally as a person who lost 15 grand on a 30 year old VW Camper I named Old Bette and was out of control about repairing. I always thought the next repair would get me that “cool dependable vehicle” I was dreaming about. I had to come to accept that, in machinery, age and dependability do not generally appear together.
You need to contact your local commerce office. The person who changed the cost of fixing the truck probably has done it before. They can help you determine best action as opposed to just turning over more money. It probably still won't run correctly if this business owner is not honest.
Hey, I’ve been a mechanic for 30 years and have been running my own shop for 7 years now. You are being taken advantage of big time. Intercooler pipes for 800! They must be gold plated. Guys like that give the business a bad name, I’d love to help you out, but I’m up in a little town on the coast of Maine . Unless you’re up for a road trip in a clattery old Cummins…..Matt.
36:18 - I just want you to know Kyle that your story telling is the reason why I keep coming back to watch your content. I am amazed at how well you you can embellish the mondain. 1:07 - "I found that traditions get better as the years go on." Me: In our fourth year here, this is the best so far... How do you find these words? Where do they gurgle from? As a professional videographer for 25+ years shooting for news stories that my reporter would write, I've never had to tell a story, nor have I journaled. Now, I struggle finding the words while writing my personal content. Kyle your writing and journaling shines through and your words are an inspiration to me.
Hey Kyle! As a female and car owner, I have learned when dealing with mechanics to communicate via email. I do some verbal communication, (especially when I call for an appointment), but always follow up with a paper trail of our conversation. This includes the approximate quote for repairs, and then make it point blank I want to be informed before ANY work is done as they go. I request an itemized quote once the mechanic has diagnosed the issue, and an itemized receipt once the work is complete. From my experience, they’ll try to overcharge where they can so I typically ask my dad/spouse for their input if everything is necessary. Use your expertise to discern if a more affordable alternative can be done. I would go forth with the expenses because most things today aren’t made like they were. So if you have older quality machinery, while costly, it’s worth investing into. Shop around for a better mechanic if possible…. One you can trust and build that repertoire with. Great video! Thanks for sharing 😊
You've received the initial quote of $5,000. Then you made contact to check on the status of your truck, and the price has now changed to $10,000, which was never agreed to. The mechanic never called you on status update on your truck. So when you called to check on your vehicle, the mechanic stated he would never have quoted you such a low price of $5,000. I'd call him back, and ask him for a detailed itemized bill of every part fixed, or replaced. Tell him you also want the outlining cost of labor for each fix/replacement. I'd also tell him you want to see all the old parts he replaced. I bet he back pedals. I'm not familiar with the laws up there. When I take my truck in to get work, a verbal approval is okay as long as the dollar amount doesn't exceed $200. Any thing after this amount, requires a written approval with a signature before the work is done. Good luck!
My late husband and myself heated our home with wood. Used about 6-7 cords of our of wood a year. We had a log splitter that was hooked up to an old pickup. Would take that whole set up right to location where we cut the tree down. Split and loaded the wood all at one time. Saved a lot of time and energy.
As a writer, I have been drawn to your videos because of your storytelling ability and the fantastic views you showcase. I can't wait to read what you write!
Hard luck with the dump truck. I guess the lesson you have to learn from this situation going forward is that a hand shake isn't always going to work. Always get quotes in writing, even if it's just an informal email. If you ever find yourself in small claims court, at least you have backup. Take care.
Kyle you have such a beautiful, descriptive gift of storytelling! My husband and I truly enjoy your calming, soothing voice! Looking forward to your upcoming book and short story successes! Send love and blessings to you and Ali! ❤
Kyle, This kind of negative stuff happens to a lot of us. I brought my truck in to the shop for a check engine light. Two months later they haven't touched it. I told them I want my truck now. They printed out a $700.00 bill for diagnostics performed. They still couldn't tell me definitively what was wrong with the truck. I ended up paying them the $700 and taking my truck to the dealer. The dealer checked it out and gave me a written estimate of repair. It needed over $18000.00 worth of parts and labor. More than the truck was worth. I traded it in on another used truck and purchased a five year 100,000 mile bumper to bumper policy on it with no restrictions on which repair shop I use. I haven't needed the policy so far. Getting taken advantage of is a right of passage. Hopefully, we learn from it and insist everything be written down and signed before we commit. Good luck Kyle. A man's handshake should be his bond. In your situation, Id write up a bill of sale for the blue book value less the amount the mechanic says you owe on the truck and bring it to him, along with the owners registration and tell him you'll sign the truck over to him if he agrees to your terms and signs the bill of sale. ,
I am so happy for you and Ally that all of your dreams are coming true. However, if I were you, I would walk away from the dump truck. The guy possibly waited so long to fix it and get with you on the final bill in order to jack up the price hoping you'd forget. Or he may be hoping you will walk away so he can keep it or has a buyer for it. Always get a quote in writing. I've had this happen once because I added on to a landscape project and didn't get an updated quote.
Thanks a lot! And yep, I've had endless car work done over the years, more than anyone I know, and have never had this happen. Learning experience for sure
@@TroutandCoffee you could ask him if you can sit down and discuss it. But if he won’t budge then I’d tell him you would never have agreed to that price and tell him your options for resolving. Good luck! I hope it works out in your favor either way!

My advice would be to sell the dodge plow truck and buy a plow attachment for the tractor. You can use your F250 and a trailer to haul your fire wood. Knowing how New England states charge for car taxes and inspections you’d be money ahead if you offload the truck and just use the tractor for your plowing as I mentioned. Just something to consider. And you may have enough money to redo the roof on the a frame as well 🤔
I'm having a bit of a tough time lately, my Dad has been diagnosed with terminal cancer, my dog has just had surgery and is on crate rest for weeks, and lots of other crap. It's turned a normally well functioning adult into a hot mess, I've tried mindfulness apps, meditation etc but the only thing that comforts me are your wonderful stories, because you guys are living in the most beautiful place, my dream place, what a life to live, so thank you guys for calming my soul ❤
The logs that you are turning into firewood look like good candidates to mill into timber for a storage shed/barn for your motorized equipment. Given the costs of dimensional lumber, you may want to consider that instead of firewood.
So sorry to hear this about your truck!! Keeping you in prayer and You seem to be such a gentleman and I love how soft spoken you are so anyways I think your other viewer gave you the best advice. God Bless and thank you for sharing. Lots of love from Ohio❤
I really look forward to your stories every week, it absolutely helps with my anxiety and depression. Thank you for being you and sharing your life. Much love from South Africa
My friend, whatever you're doing in life don't ever let that girl Get away from you she is special. It's just coming from my dad. Give me a favor. Grow old together. Keep up the good work your friend George.
Writing is the one imprint that shapes the mind to it's core never a dull moment for the soul. I bought a tablet strictly for writing Im cataloging my poems up to 300 and still counting plus my picture stock poems I write every day. Short stories coming along as well and I have to thank you Kyle for turning me on To J. Kerouac total inspiration just like your channel. Your work has given me the inspiration to keep up my writing to the point I can't stop and that is a good thing. Thank you for all that you do and represent Kyle forever grateful.🖋📚💗🌄😌
We really enjoy you talking to the camera Kyle and giving insights into your life, both positive and negative. Makes you realise everyone has bad days… it’s very relatable and compelling ❤😊 PS. That little writing table is a dream!
I have been trying to think who you remind me of when you narrate your videos and it just came to me “Norman Maclean” who wrote A River Runs Through It. You will have to let us know when you publish your first book. I think a series of short stories would be good.
Sorry to hear about your truck Kyle. I have to get quotes in writing where I live. In spite of that, most mechanics here still tamper. Meineke brake pads turned into rotors, calipers, and master cylinder. They also over added fluid to my transmission trying to get me to pay for a rebuild. Meineke also put fluid around my seals but I already had bought my truck because it had zero leaks. All my mechanics that I trust have retired. I would ask for a bill in writing to justify the 10k instead of 5k. If not, I would take him to small claims court. Good luck!
Watching your show now, always get an itemized estimate so there is no misunderstanding and changes. Remember you should always sign the estimate before they start the work . I’ve learned the hard way to never do business with out a written itemized estimate Good luck with this. I feel your pain !
I finally finished and self published my first novel, a light hearted, fun, fantasy adventure, using the Amazon, Kindle Direct Publishing platform. I did it all myself, writing, editing, proof reading, formatting, cover design and illustration, and publishing but I now have it in ebook, paperback and hardback and I’m really pleased. I’ve finished writing book two and am currently editing that. It’s very rewarding and it’s a bit of a legacy too so keep going, whatever route you take, it’s well worth it.
I've been watching your channel for a while now and I really like the way you tell the story. Both you and Ally. Great channels! All the best to you guys and continued good fortune. Love and light to you both!
That writing desk is amazing -- a carefully built piece to create a masterpiece upon. Good luck with the book. The best ones do come slowly. Also, it's always nice to see that the hills are alive. ;) Keep writing, I'm waiting for more stories!
Your story telling is why I started following you! I know voice over’s are more work but I can’t imagine your channel any other way! I cannot wait to purchase your book! I hope you offer us first dibs to preorder?🙏🙏🙏Blessing’s
Kyle, you have the narration of Earl Hammer and with your writing table many books and short stories to be told on that once living thing that could tell a story of its own. Thank you for bring us all along for a taste of your life, I always look forward to your short stories on film.
This may sound crazy, but I imagine out there in the country, businessmen can get away with more due to less competition. It might be worth taking the vehicle to the nearest big city shop with good reviews, because in the city with loads of competition there is more pressure to be honest, or even generous.
Waiting on that honey bee farm to start up hands down one of the greatest life’s journeys on TH-cam, I’ve been following 3 of you for a very long time and I noticed,it’s 3 guys who built there life from the bottom up through discipline and a thirst for for this life that’ll never be quenched.
You and Ally make such a great team! You both see and know what you want with the land and home you own. With the other financial matters, it's always best to get quotes in black and white and get a second opinion if necessary. This way the guy who verbally quoted you a price and is now doubling it can't rebut when the quoted price is in black and white. It's a minor learning lesson, but a lesson we all need to experience in order to learn from. That's how some of the best lessons are learned, by making some big mistakes. So you just move forward and learn from it. You two are SO young and the one thing I always tell young people is this - you young people have one MAJOR asset - TIME! You don't realize it, but when you look back you see how you could've used your time more wisely. Take from someone who is just over 60 yrs young 😊 And I'm still learning. Just move forward and learn from your mistakes so that you will have some teaching lessons for your children and grandchildren.
What is going on..😱Storms etc .. Great to listen to you and see your stories unfold 👌💕lovely seeing some more snow my favourite thing in the whole world 🌨️❄️⛄🌨️❄️🌨️☃️❄️🌨️👍💞@Kyle the written word is so special you are a natural 👌
I've started hitting record on my phone during phone conversations. Helps me remember the conversations, and them, if they "forget." The other life lesson is, you win some, you lose some. Accepting that you will experience some unfair losses in life, really helps you emotionally. It all par for the course. Finally, buying new (or at most two years old) means you'll have a more reliable vehicle without headaches. I poured 10K into a 24 yr old vehicle, that just ate and ate $$ in repairs. Coulda had new.
Also, I love your content. It inspires me and helps me put life in perspective. I've been down many of the same roads and I appreciate how you don't sugarcoat your journey. Life is not linear. Thanks.
You are so talented you that table came out great looking forward to seeing your dining table! Don’t get too upset when things don’t go the way you hoped for just look around and count your blessings! You guys have come along way and have a lot to be thankful for until your next video stay strong and God bless🙏❤️✌🏼
Similar thing happened to me when they wanted something I have but didn’t want to pay for it! That shop wants your truck or your money based on your TH-cam channel. Write a letter of intent with demands and a deadline to go back to the agreed price or legal action will take place. See how they respond then lawyer up
I’ve been following you for quite some time. I thoroughly enjoy your content. Your videos are beautiful and expertly done. It’s been a joy to watch you grow, your relationship grow, and to see both of you blossom into who you’re meant to be! I follow Allie also. You two are great! Keep it up.💪🏼🧠❤️🏡
Hi Kyle. Thank you for sharing. I was talking to someone who said that you should always get things in writing. However, I would let the person know that you have the ability to let people on social media know who this person is who is trying to rip you off. Right or wrong that's what I would do. I get tired of being ripped off also. Good luck with that.
I envy your days, but not really. We have had those days in plenty and now are in a different season. Small farming. I love watching, this morning I’m just grinning from ear to ear, especially when Kyle says a piece of wood will change his life, felt that.
Congratulations for hanging on to your dreams and never ever ever giving up you are an inspiration to all of us and yes keep writing if that is what your soul is telling you to do you are meant for it you two are amazing and I so look forward to watching you every week thank you thank you thank you
I love the videos. Like a breath of fresh air for the soul like chicken soup for the soul. You should write a book about your journey and mark the book like short stories. The book should include some stories about you growing up 😊
Kyle, I feel your pain brother. Brought my 2016 GMC Acadia in this past summer for a transmission rebuild. Mechanic told me I'd have it back in 7-10 days and $3,200 possibly $3,800 on the high end . Fast forward 5 weeks later, went to pick it up and now 6K!!!. Asked what about the $3,800 high end price and he just said it was more damage than he originally thought. Place had excellent reviews on line. That just goes to show, you cant trust everything you read on the internet. Hopefully I can get another 5-7 years out of it. You should probably think of your truck in the same manner and hopefully it's money well spent buying you many more years of use. Good luck. Love all your videos.
I would bite the bullet and pay the 10k, lesson learned, get everything in writing in the future. A written contract is solid in any court. That is honestly what I'd do. Good luck!
I look forward to Sunday's when your video comes out. It reminds me so much of the Colorado Rockies, Where I grew up and still live high in the mtns. New England look's like a beautiful place especially in the Fall. Colorado look's alot like that.
As I grow older I sadly have learned that there are people who will try to take advantage of good people, don’t let them. I believe your mechanic knows exactly what he said to you on the phone and thought you were a easy mark, don’t let him be right. Good luck dear one.
About the truck: I've seen this happening a LOT more in just the last couple of years. Head gaskets for my Subaru that ballooned to nearly seven grand after the engine was out and apart, a roof that cost three times the original estimate after a third of the shingles were off, and on and on and on. I thought it was just me, that I looked like a mark or something, but after talking to some friends it seems everyone is dealing with it.
It seems to me watching your videos over the years that you have a similar problem that I have a watch collector. You do not need so many vehicles as I do not need so many watches. Lol. Can only drive one at a time, can only wear one watch at a time. Quality over quantity, no matter what you are collecting (not saying you are an auto collector, but it seems it) are some thoughts I have here. I think the new truck was a good idea. This one, discussed in this video, forget about it. Cut your losses. Here is an idea - sell all extra vehicles and cash out, save up and build your dream garage / shop and pave your driveway. I am sure you have the land and the knowledge and guys to help. Just my 2 cents and another great video as always.
The Trapp Lodge is so amazing! This summer I’ll head back and run my 3rd Catamount Ultra, a 50k hosted on the Trapp grounds. It’s an incredible race and what a challenge but so worth it and fun! They also have a 25k version. Most of the climbing is in the first 5k (and 25-30k if you opt for the 50k which is two looks of the same course) but man oh man. It’s awesome!
Jim, who is listening in said, " I'd fix it myself". And he would have..79 y/o now. Had the toughest stained hands of any mechanic, farmer, woods man in the USA.
My husband is a great mechanic but just for our vehicles. When looks @ U -tube & dead end . He has several mechanic & he gets quotes . Sometimes even his mechanic also get there other sources for help. Don't give up. A new vehicles will get old cost even more.
Hi Kyle....absolutely love all your videos...been watching for a few years now when it was just you and your buddies. Nie Ally is with you and also love her videos. You guys make the perfect couple. Very passionate about all your successes and there have been many and more to come.. i love your journey..puts a warm space in my heart. Always look forward in all you and Ally do Be safe be healthy.. Talk Soon...i am also from Massachusetts just south of Boston but love the Berkshires.❤
I was in the same boat, and someone close to me, said, I always record a conversation, if it had to do with fixing or replacing something and their conversation would be able to let them know that they told me this and if it ever went to court you would have a recorded conversation and agreement with them. Also, I found that I get 3 bids on something I need to have worked on. Then they sign and date it, with the time. And keep it for back up if something goes south. I am sorry that happened to you. That is what I would do. Maybe he would agree to a payment plan???
Seeing as it's an older dump truck, I would go ahead with the expenses & make sure to get in writing some sort of warranty. Then to help re-coup some of the costs, I would advertise "dump truck for hire" (with you or Ally as operator). Put a set rate at how much you want to make an hour. You'll probably be amazed at how many people could use your services. Also...I would be searching for another mechanic.
Kyle it sucks what happened with the Dodge you should have gotten it in writing. For what you paid for it and all the repairs, you might have been better off buying an old military deuce 1/2 . When it comes to your basement if it is flooding, you might want to see what it would cost for a French drain. I live on the ocean and it has made a big difference.
Sorry to hear about the truck situation mate. Dont put yourself in financial hardship over it! Im sure local people know you're a good bloke. We have the Trading Standards Agency over here which investigates unfair trading of all businesses. Not sure if you have an equivalent. Chin up! 💪🏻
Adore adore adore your videos. They’ve kept me grounded and show us all how beautiful life can be❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ never stop making them as I will be lost ! 🎉🎉🎉 xxx

Happy you're here!! Hope you enjoy! ❤
welcome to my world. I have no doubt a guy with your work ethic and integrity will overcome anything life throws at you. Shine on
The logs that you are turning into firewood look like good candidates to mill into timber for a storage shed/barn for your motorized equipment.
🙏
Same ❤❤❤
I am also South African and lived in Vermont for a year, love this channel.g
Watching your videos through my hip surgery recovery has been EVERYTHING. Thank you
My friend, whatever you're doing in life don't ever let that girl Get away from you she is special. It's just coming from my dad. Give me a favor. Grow old together. Keep up the good work your friend George.
Writing is the one imprint that shapes the mind to it's core never a dull moment for the soul.
I bought a tablet strictly for writing
Im cataloging my poems up to 300 and still counting plus my picture stock poems I write every day.
You have a beautiful gift of language. Your words are poetic and definitely should be written!
We really enjoy you talking to the camera Kyle and giving insights into your life, both positive and negative. Makes you realise everyone has bad days… it’s very relatable and compelling ❤😊 PS. That little writing table is a dream!
You make my life so wonderful- just watching the way your both are so present, creative and appreciative of everything!
Thanks for sharing this gorgeous video. Love the snowy, winter scenes!! Youre awesome.
Thanks for tuning in!
The perfect video for this snowy Sunday morning!
Thanks a lot Chad!!
I’ve learned the hard way to never do business with out a written itemized estimate
Good luck with this.
You are smart to balance work, fun and life. Strong work.
Always makes my Sunday morning 😊
I like that last scene of you writing at your desk. I can see how it changed your life Lester.
The only way it makes sense to own older vehicles is you have to have the ability to fix them yourself!
You have a beauty voice along with your storytelling it is very special.
Wooow so nice to see another chapter of you and Ally and all well😊 peak soon ❤
Living well. Family of 3. Take care of each other. mar🦉
Love the desk! Can't wait to see the dining table! Sorry about the mess with your truck..
My anti stress pill😊
Your writings and TH-cam channel are wonderful 😊. Looking forward to more!
Keep it up.💪🏼🧠❤️🏡
Love the video if I were you I would walk away in regard to the truck. In the future get everything in writing before getting any work done.
yup, sure am going to. have had more car work done than anyone I've ever met and this has never once happened. learn as you go i guess
Hi Kyle. Thank you for sharing.
I was talking to someone who said that you should always get things in writing. However, I would let the person know that you have the ability to let people on social media know who this person is who is trying to rip you off. Right or wrong that's what I would do. I get tired of being ripped off also. Good luck with that.
As you look forward to Spring time, we prepare for our winter in New Zealand 😊
If your books are half as good as your videos, they're going to be AMAZING. Can't wait to read your stories! :)
I envy your days, but not really. We have had those days in plenty and now are in a different season. Small farming. I love watching, this morning I’m just grinning from ear to ear, especially when Kyle says a piece of wood will change his life, felt that.
Your table is great and the chair.....
You and Ally are so blessed!
That desk ♥️
Praying for God's devine wisdom for the right decision for your truck!❤
Congratulations for hanging on to your dreams and never ever ever giving up you are an inspiration to all of us and yes keep writing if that is what your soul is telling you to do you are meant for it you two are amazing and I so look forward to watching you every week thank you thank you thank you
I love the videos. Like a breath of fresh air for the soul like chicken soup for the soul. You should write a book about your journey and mark the book like short stories. The book should include some stories about you growing up 😊
Love seeing the work on the A frame!!
I feel really good about all your endeavors..
Simplify, simplify, simplify! - HDT
Thank you
Kyle,
I feel your pain brother.
Love you guys! I can’t wait to read your books!
So so inspiring for me! Please keep being yourself and keep doing what you do)) we need this ❤
I would bite the bullet and pay the 10k, lesson learned, get everything in writing in the future.
I look forward to your videos most of all. It’s the decompression I need to start the work week. Thank you 😊
About the truck: I've seen this happening a LOT more in just the last couple of years.
To feel all there is to feel out there… ❤
Jim, who is listening in said, " I'd fix it myself". And he would have..79 y/o now. Had the toughest stained hands of any mechanic, farmer, woods man in the USA.
you're amazing buddy. you bring us into a miracle
My husband is a great mechanic but just for our vehicles. When looks @ U -tube & dead end . He has several mechanic & he gets quotes . Sometimes even his mechanic also get there other sources for help. Don't give up. A new vehicles will get old cost even more.
What a great video! Thank you.
Always look forward in all you and Ally do
Be safe be healthy.. Talk Soon...i am also from Massachusetts just south of Boston but love the Berkshires.❤
Actually I love New England..it's home.
Everything is done in a recorded line. You and them can check those records of the phone call , dont let yourself get played
I'm from the Philippines bro I love seeing your videos I always watch everyday
The desk came out so magical!
Great content, wonderful. Thank you! for sharing.
I like you A frame home, especially seeing that it has a basement . Hope you get your big truck back.
Get it in writing!!!!!
It's so amazing to watch your videos guys..
Please make small farm for vegetables & garden...😊
Sorry to hear about the truck situation mate. Dont put yourself in financial hardship over it! Im sure local people know you're a good bloke. We have the Trading Standards Agency over here which investigates unfair trading of all businesses. Not sure if you have an equivalent. Chin up! 💪🏻
Always get it agreements WRITING!
Adore adore adore your videos. They’ve kept me grounded and show us all how beautiful life can be❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ never stop making them as I will be lost ! 🎉🎉🎉 xxx
