    Such a great video Laura! I LOVE that lens. It's incredible how crispy the pictures look. By the way, your Newsletter is so well designed! I was so inspired when I received it seeing those great shots. I learn a lot from your Blog as well, you are so skilled in many niches! For once I feel that I'm learning from a real photographer, not someone pretending to be one just to make it on youtube! You are a real mentor. GRACIAS ❤️

    Such a great video! I love 50 mm prime but I have the basic fifty nifty for the time being. It’s one to be upgraded. For portrait 85 f1.2. So sharp! Love it.

      Thank you Julia!! Yes! That lens is very good for the price and very versatile as well. For portrait that 85mm must be incredible with that shallow depth of field… F1.2 🤤🤤🤤

    I love 35, 50 and 85, but I think I'd choose the 50mm. I certainly use this one more than the other two put together.

    Thanks for the very interesting video... What do you mean? is the Sigma 105mm a good alternative lens to the Canon EF 85mm / 1.2L II USM? I would use the lens for portrait photography....

    • @LauraBC
      @LauraBC  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Frank! The 105mm is incredible! It's my favourite lens. But if you own the Canon EF 85mm / 1.2L II USM, the 105mm is more like an addition to the gear, not something necessary. That lens you have is so good! I miss a prime focal range between my 35mm and the 105mm. Thinking about a 55mm or 85mm... I will see 😅

    Laura, do you intend to upgrade to the R lenses and cameras? Would you prefer those newer Canon glass versus the lenses you recommended?

      I also use Sigma Art lenses and I love them even more than some Canon lenses. 🙈

    Hi there, I have a question regarding the prime lens to choose. Doesn’t that depend on the camera, i.e. if it is a full frame or aps-c camera? I have a 50 mm and a 100 mm lens and a Canon D850 camera (Aps-c). That means I need to multiply the length with 1.6, so my lenses would be about 80 mm and 160 mm. And with the latter I noticed that I need a very large distance from my model (= myself using a Stative). So I am not sure if it was so clever to buy the 100 mm lens.

    • @LauraBC
      @LauraBC  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi! 😊 Yes, it depends of your camera. A 35mm is good for both full frame and aps-c sensors. However, the 100mm on an aps-c sensor may be too much. As you said, you have to go quite far away from the model. For outdoors is not so bad but for studio it would be more problematic. Worst case scenario, if you are not sure about the lens, maybe you could trade it in the shop for another one? I did that before. You don’t recover all the money but they will give you a good amount to spend in another one. 🙏🏼

    • @a.g.4843
      @a.g.4843 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@LauraBC thanks for the answer! Haha, yes, in my small studio it is definitely problematic :) My appartment is definitely too small for the 100 mm lens. 😂, but well maybe I will soon buy the Canon R6 so that should work. But before I still need to practice and I built my studio according your advice you gave in your videos :)

    • @LauraBC
      @LauraBC  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So nice you have it!! Right?? For me is the same with portrait photography, I have to retouch more the skin of the models because you can notice every single little thing. 😂

  • @ivanb86

    Perfect timing for this video. I was looking into 35, or 50 prime, but 85 also looks interesting. Man, so many lenses, so little money. After this, I think I might go with that sigma, I believe they have it for Sony as well. P.S. Looking forward for that newsletter.

      Hi Ivan! Sorry for the late reply, I missed so many comments! 😅 As you said, so many lenses and so little money, I can perfectly relate! 😂 Now that I have a 35mm, I would live to have a 50mm... Just to cover the massive gap I have between my 35mm and the 105mm. This career is EXPENSIVE haha!

    If I had to choose one prime Lens for everything, then it have to be a short tele macro Lens ! For many years I used the Leica Macro Elmarit R 60mm 2.8, now I will choose either my Voigtländer Macro APO-Lanthar 65mm 2.0 Aspherical or maybe my Voigtländer Macro APO-Lanthar 110mm 2.5

    I looooooooved the Sigma Art 35!! I bought it when it first came out to put it on my 5D mk ii. I don't know how it's priced now, but back then it was such a steal compared to Canon's version. I held onto it long after I had sold off all my Canon cameras and nothing to put it on.

    • @LauraBC
      @LauraBC  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Richard! Sorry I missed this comment! 😅 Now is definitely better price! Why did you sell everything? Did you buy another gear instead?

    • @RichardSilvius

      @@LauraBC I had gotten the original fuji x100 to compliment my Canon, and ended up loving it so much. I was also frustrated with the prices of the Canon lenses, and had some QC issues with some of the Canon stuff I had. I started looking at the X series, and the lenses were so much more affordable compared to their FF counterparts, but optically close-to or as good. So it made sense to sell the Canon stuff and buy into the Fuji system because it gave me a much wider range of what I could do in my budget at the time. Not to mention a lot easier to carry around. If I were to go FF frame today, I'd probably have to stick with manual adapted lenses because I really hate how huge lenses have gotten! That Sigma 35 was so hard to let go of though.

  • @Powerstroke98
    @Powerstroke98 ปีที่แล้ว

    Much depends on what kind of photographer you are, as I can get to '35mm' via several of my telephoto's, but it's very rare that I would use that perspective. I'm more of a Landscape/wildlife photographer, so a 35mm would rarely be used. I tend to go all the way out to 600mm at times, so I tend to use 'versatility' of a 28-300mm lens for travel. I use my Tampon 90mm F/2.8 for portrait's, albeit I take very few these days. I understand the reasoning for your favourite lens, as you use it much differently, and I'd personally prefer the 85mm F1.4 for myself, again, just being a little more versatile. Also, 35mm is too wide for astrophotography, where a 20mm would be a better choice, so much certainly depends on one's choice of photography as to which lens will be a favourite.

    If I have too choose one lens, I perhaps will have to choose 35mm, but if I have the choice, I actually find I shoot 70 percent in 50mm, and prefer 28mm as my wide angle choice, 35mm is a bit calm to my taste as a wide angle, and not as focus compare to 50mm, but overall it is a very good lens!
