I still will never understand why they didn't make it as a Saturday Night Live attraction - even if they kept the same concept it could be a "race" through Studio 8H and have a tribute to all the classic characters that were created throughout the 50 years. It would've been so much better.
There's an ongoing joke in my friendgroup that I am the #1(and only) Race Through New York fan who literally loves it more than anything, I haven't been on the ride in over half a decade
The last time I was on this ride, the screen abruptly went black and the ride stopped. The park crew at first said sit tight, it’ll be up and running soon. Immediately after they said that, they pretty much kicked us off and said have a good day. And my only thought was “thank God I didn’t have to sit through that ride”
I have no idea why, but I always feel pleasantly happy when I ride it, and I try to ride it whenever i visit. Regarding the unthemed building, I see countless tourists have no idea what on earth is in the building, or who jimmy fallon is.
I feel like the big problem with this ride is that if you’re not any familiar with Jimmy Fallon, then you’ll probably be confused with this ride. After watching this video, I just learned that the concept of the ride was based on a segment of his show. See what I mean?
This would've been so much better. Especially for us non Americans because Ghostbusters is something known globally. The Tonight Show is only something a lot of us know from cameos in sitcoms like Cheers or from TH-cam clips that went viral
they should put the Secret Life of Pets ride from Hollywood here because this park needs another family-friendly dark ride, and it also fits in the theme of New York because that is where the movie takes place! and they can make a separate pathway entrance for horror nights to the soundstage! they did it with Fallon they can do it for this!
The fact is, Jimmy Fallon just isn’t that funny. He wasn’t that funny on SNL and he’s not funny as the host of The Tonight Show. So while the racing part is kinda fun, and the movie is pretty cool visually, the ride, much like Jimmy, underdelivers.
A Race through New York could make an AMAZING attraction. Think how many Universal properties are set in New York! It could be a movie lover's Easter Egg Hunt. JF is the problem. Universal, when it hits, hits because its attractions are appealing to a GLOBAL audience. As Londoners, we didn't know any of the inside jokes from Jimmy Fallon's show...and our fellow "passengers" (the one and only time we experienced this attraction) seemed to feel the same.
I hope with the success of *Twisters* and its no doubt impending sequel will be enough to show Universal incentive to cave in this abomination. Twister and Twisters deserve to be honored as proper disaster film legends. They’re driving the genre.
This is so strange. This is a corporate executive's idea of "fun." Make the exterior look like a corporate office building. Maybe if this was a museum, ok. I could see this being a cool museum attraction. But this is an amusement park. If this was an exact replica of 30 Rock, back in the 50s, or 60s, and you could walk through it as people did back in the 50s, that would be cool. As if it had remained untouched all those years. But this is literally an exact replica of present day 30 Rock, and the current present day Jimmy Fallon studio. Just go to the actual 30 Rock in NYC and see the real thing, not an imitation. Who besides a corporate executive find this exciting? I guess twister will just become an urban legend.
This ride sounds terrible. If you want a Jimmy Fallon experience, go line up and see a free taping of his show in NYC. The fact that they recreated 30 Rock and the waiting areas in 30 Rock with all this care seems absurd. Also who are these side characters? Yikes just about any other I.P would make a better ride.
The pre-show area is very much a Tonight Show museum - even Conan O Brien's short stint as host gets a spot, and it makes sense because there was a Tonight Show With Jay Leno experience at Universal once.
I don’t mind the ride, I like the lobby area and it’s a chill simulator. Sucks that twister was replaced by something not as cool but I really don’t mind it
Fallon is a prime example how I question this ride got green lit into being a ride, let alone closed Twister (I get it for Twister but at the same time) what a horrible trade. At least Supercharged is funny AND enjoyable Fallon is just boring, dumb and I’d have more entertainment watching paint dry than ride that turd In fact I’ll go one step further and say I’d rather get stuck on Its a small world at Disney for 4 hours than ride that hunk of junk If universal cleans up Studios, this is the ride they NEED to close first after RRR and Simpsons close to make USF better than before. Do that then work on the other screen rides. Also I don’t mind Supercharged the ride is fine I don’t get the hate for it
I never smelled Pizza on that ride and ever since Jimmy mentioned it on the show when he was announcing the rides existence, I anticipated it. I expected to smell like Pringles pizza but either way it's definitely something that they said a lot. Never smelled it. I was even in the front row at times almost every angle I've tried.
They need to replace this attraction with Secret Life of Pets ride in Universal Studios Hollywood. It would be a great transition from Illumination Blvd and New York.
While not a popular opinion, I think Universal needs to be fully redone, once Epic Opens. It is such an old, out dated park with so much wasted space and potential. I understand all the reasons why they can't shut it down for a few yrs and redo it, but they should of they want the park to survive for another 30 yrs.
They could always re theme it. It’s just a massive motion simulator with a massive screen. There are two I believe. Wouldn’t be hard to turn it into just about anything.
When the attraction building and the queue are better than the actual ride, you know there is a problem. I found the queue concept to be pretty interesting.
Jenny Nicholson has a whole video about how Disney lost the chance to operate "The Wizarding World of Harry Potter" to Universal Studios, so Disney tried to compete with a parked themed after.... James Cameron's Avatar.
It's quite the problem with IP rides. If people are not familiar with the IP at least a little bit it can ruin an entire experience. Other IP rides set in fantasy or sci-fi people can at least have a general understanding of the world. But the tonight show is not any of that For example when I rode The Indiana Jones attraction Disneyland I hadn't seen the movies yet but still thought it was a good ride
I'm incredibly biased because I had my first kiss at Universal and I rode this ride with my gf multiple times, but I quite liked it for what it was when I rode. Nothing special, but ride equivalent of junk food. Plus, it was a GREAT way to cool off since it pretty much never had a line
I actually like the NBC building facade (NYC vibe) and nostalgic studio theme inside. I think they could actually do more interactively with the internal area-they have a band stage and could have live activities or performances. But the biggest thing imho is that it seems like they could easily update this ride to a newer race or NBC/Fallon/SNL action event. The footage all looks to be drone shot combo w/ CGI anyway. Reshoot new scenes/story then sync it with platform the audience sits in. Seems this can be accomplished in a simulator then uploaded to the ride. A refresh could do wonders.
Do they still have the "Ragtime Gals" barbershop quartet in the pre-show? When I went through the attraction, back in 2018, the pre-show consisted of four actual, live singers on stage performing some pop music, including some hip-hop rap music, converted into the style of a barbershop quartet. The performers were legit talented, and it was rather hilarious to behold! Yes, the actual "ride" sucked. It was, no doubt, the WORST attraction in the Universal resort area. But, I like the Ragtime Gals bit soooo much, I considered just watching them a second time, and then skipping the actual ride part. (Unfortunately, time constraints prevented me from doing so.)
I'm also from the UK and I only really know about Jimmy from the Tonight Show drama a decade ago, his cameo in Jurassic World, certain clips from his show that went viral online and him being on the Universal Studio Tour
I always thought if there was ever a Tonight host who would actually fit in a ride, it would been Conan. His humor and style in a ride like that would've made it enjoyable
I only disagree with one point.. I like that the ride building is nondescript. It feels like you said - that you're walking into a staff building and then there's a ride. It's not a concept that works for every ride, but ones like this, I find it very cool.
There was an idea to bring VQ to Hagrid's, and the queue was originally designed for it, but I'm guessing, based on the fact that there is still no express, the popularity is too high even for a good quality VQ.
Having been on this ride, it is isn't the best, but its certainly better than Skull Island: Reign of Kong and Transformers 3D. And Fast and Furious, of course.
6:30 - Particularly true for us international visitors. The big and age-old IPs are all ingrained on our international brains so indeed, my family who don't watch The Simpsons etc knew enough about it and the characters to fully enjoy the ride. Jimmy Fallon was like being a guest at a party where you didn't know anyone 😂 Many probably know of his existence from interviews on TH-cam but nothing beyond that. I imagine the ride was as vanilla as possible with the blandest of exteriors so they could swap the IP at any point down the line with minimal disruption. I think it's probably wise of them to have something that's easy to get a decent number of people on without big queues anyway, even if it is a bit lame.
The two most event rides universal has made are heavily screen based. They have absolutely not learned their lesson. Just look at how badly they dropped the ball with Mario kart
One of the top worst rides along with fast and the furious in orlando. Imagine fast and the furious and they make a party bus ride for it. Worst decision ever.
100% agree! I feel like I'm one of the few international guests who knew who Jimmy Fallon was, and even then idk all his characters- just such a boring 'ride'!! Also nice video I like your stuff, subscribed:)
Fallon did sign another contract in 2022..but theres good news if You enjoy Saturday Day Night live and Ghostbusters. Your main tell will be the demolishment of Rip Ride as they share fire code with the track running through. (Any fire in building;or acts of construction places Rocket in a down period)
Man please PLEASE do a video on Transformers the Ride. A ride you mentioned in this video! It’s one of my personal favorite rides (which is biased because im a huge TF fan) and it would really make my day to hear your thoughts on the ride! Specially since you worked in universal. I’d love to hear what you as an ex employe know about it
This was one ride where I knew I would hate it so much, but when I finally rode it, it wasn’t so bad. However, I would not waste my time going on it again. F&F was definitely as bad as I imagined it would be lol
I just don’t get the allure of Fallon. He was OK on SNL, and his Late Night, was fine, but his Tonight Show just feels lame compared to Leno. Even Conan’s abbreviated run was a better Tonight Show than Fallons non stop laughing with all of his guests. Carson was called The King of Late Night for a reason, and the closest since his departure was Craig Ferguson who did something different. Also for a ride set in NYC, Fallon shot his stuff in Canada. It’s not like there aren’t a few locations in the city.
I actually enjoyed the Jimmy Fallon ride. The 3D works well and the motion (especially in the space scene) feels smooth and responsive. I've never had to wait in any line for that ride, so I haven't had any experience with the virtual queue. Also the room before the ride entrance is a nice place to chill with AC and Jimmy Fallon videos.
Back to back garbage attractions at the Studios park. The new Minions attraction is also a miss….they really need an overhaul at Universal Studios Florida…it’s just a mess.
I think it's fine, Every ride doesn't need to be a high thrills ride. Sometimes you just want something more chill. Both the ride and the queue is pretty chill. Conversely, I hate the Simpson's ride it just feels like they are banging you around in a box for no good reason and Fast and Furious is by far the worse IMO with the motion just plain bad and the video confusing and cheaply done (The scale is silly). At least this one you see some New York sights and it doesn't bang you around for seemingly no good reason.
This attraction sucks. But for some reason my grandson likes this attraction. I think that’s because he gets to go on it by himself. Lolol Thanks for the video.
Only been there once...this was oddly my favorite of the screen rides...maybe because of low expectations and my enjoyment of the queue... And I haven't watched anything Jimmy has done since leaving Snl...
This may be a hot take.... but i feel like this ride is dragged down a bit F&F and Minions.... I actually enjoyed this more than i thought i would, but the constant screens make it feel all too similar. I feel like the depth to the story issue that you talked about, is kind of it point.... just a simulator to sit back and enjoy the sights of New York, with a ton of silliness stacked on top. Not saying it's the greatest attraction, but i feel it would be better received without all of the other screen based rides. Ultimately, this will be replaced at some point, as i feel that Studios is going to have to practically turn into a new park to compete with Islands and Epic.
I completely disagree with this take. As someone familiar with but not really a huge fan of Jimmy Fallon and his show, I think it's a fun and light-hearted attraction. Also considering I've actually been to 30 Rock in New York, it's a great recreation, true to the real thing down to the smallest details. To each his own I guess, but there are definitely worse attractions than this IMO.
That ride is just complete horse manure, I went on it once & never again. I would rather due a 1 hour queue for Storm Force Accelatron over at Islands than ride this garbage with it being a walk on.
I don’t thing there is such a thing as “a huge Jimmy Fallon fan.”
THere are huge Jimmy Fallon fans, but that doesn't translate to an amusement park ride.
I think Jimmy Fallon is
Ariana grande is a huge Jimmy Fallon fan
I did liked his SNL stuff.

@aegisofhonor a good amount, we have season passes and live in florida

Then you must have no morals or like boring rides
Ride in the back on Surcharged
Low rider experience

I seriously think I’m the only person who likes the fast and furious ride. My family loves the jimmy fallon ride tho and I don’t
I think jimmy Fallon alone is reason enough it's boring
Not a fan of Fallon, and when his staff revealed his bad behavior on set, that was it for me. Its difficult to like this ride.
This attraction sucks. But for some reason my grandson likes this attraction. I think that’s because he gets to go on it by himself. Lolol Thanks for the video.
This is a nice attraction.
Great use of space .
The best juxtaposition at 5:41.
Who the hell is a Jimmy Fallon fan!?!! 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
I think this ride is fine for what it is but its obviously not the greatest by any means. Still wayy better than Supercharged.
No thats definitely the Fast and Furious Ride imo
ITS BETTER THAN FAST AND THE FURIOUS
Best safety instructions ever!!!!!!!
Me personally I love race through NY
That ride is just complete horse manure, I went on it once & never again. I would rather due a 1 hour queue for Storm Force Accelatron over at Islands than ride this garbage with it being a walk on.
