*The History of TERRACOTTA WARIORS
The Terracotta Army is a collection of terracotta sculptures depicting the armies of Qin Shi Huang, the first emperor of China. It is a form of funerary art buried with the emperor in 210-209 BCE with the purpose of protecting him in his afterlife. The figures vary in height according to their rank, the tallest being the generals. The figures include warriors, chariots and horses.
The terracotta figures are life-sized, typically ranging from 175 cm (5.74 ft) to about 200 cm (6.6 ft) (the officers are typically taller).
Four main pits approximately 7 m (23 ft) deep have been excavated.Pit 1, contains the main army of more than 6,000 life-sized figures, Pit 2 has cavalry and infantry units, Pit 3 is the command post with high ranking officers and war chariots, and Pit 4, is empty, left unfinished by its builders.
