    Started Muay Thai about 7 months ago, and I have tried to model everything after you. I’m a short, athletic guy and I’m utilizing your Tight defense, and fakes to work my way in range and then pressuring with level changes and relentless cardio. Just now getting to the part where I’m coming out of my defensive shell and landing good shots (without getting caught as much). Thanks to you, I am becoming a better fighter. My goal is to compete before the end of the year, so I will use all of this time wisely, and drop a like on every one of your videos 😎

I will be watching your vids and the sparring vids to see how well I progress. Thanks dude!

    • @kvarga9164
      @kvarga9164 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I agree with the other comment as Gabriel has either diffused any issue or walked away from trouble. When he was a young guy he was told things such as "nothing good happens after 11pm downtown", or one of my favourite expressions "You know - I never got in a fight on a Saturday afternoon walking to the library" or one of the many things he was told.
      When you know things would turn out ok for you there is really no need to engage when you do not have a big 'ol fight ego, a tough guy attitude or are just an angry person.
      Patrick Swayze did a fun movie called "Road House". I cannot remember the exact line but it was pretty much that "those who are prepared for trouble are usually better than those looking for trouble".
      Oh - I am pretty sure I would have also explained to Gabriel to just stay out of dark alleys as it just makes good sense.

      When I see a question I believe is important to fighters I answer and tend to be a bit chatty and long winded. I think boxing training is very important for fighters. I used to own a boxing club before Gabriel was born and would always seek out good boxers and they would pretty much "tune me up" on a regular basis as boxing was not a great skill that we martial arts people had back in the 60's and 70's.
      Things were not as they are now where ego is out the door in the way of "styles" being the best and all the best things have now risen to the top of being done. In modern society this was all started by - yes - you got it - Bruce Lee. He was on point when he combined styles and lost the ego involved and started selecting the best things to do. Things have continued to evolve that way and people continue to improve.
      Gabriel spars with boxers fairly regularly. One of our friends used to own a boxing club and 12 -14 years or so ago when Gabriel started sparring with good boxers it was a challenge for him and he got a bit of a schooling laid on him. Gabriel had lots of tweaks to make as boxing is of course a different game then kickboxing in the way of stance and head movement etc.
      Within that year or so Gabriel was able to do well and then in the next couple years he was as good as the Olympic Boxers and then pro's he got the opportunity to train with.
      I am thinking it was around 10 -11 years ago he received an invite and went to the gym where Freddy Roach and Manny Pacquio trained at in L.A. He did not get to work with Manny but did really well sparring against Manny's sparring partners.
      They were talking about some pro boxing fights for Gabriel but Gabriel decided his love was kickboxing so stayed focused on that.
      All the boxers really helped Gabriel improve his game as they are so good at what they do.
      Learning how to function in the ring with a skilled pure boxer is an important thing to do to improve for sure.
      Gabriel's dad - Keith

      He had a good response to that:
      Basically, his opponents are going to know everything they need to know about him from his fight footage that's already out there, and he's not going to be showing any videos that will reveal any secrets or anything, and if they're going to watch his sparring videos to try and get an advantage, good luck.

    Why do you give your ops so much film on you?

    • @kvarga9164
      @kvarga9164 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good question.
      At this point there is so much film footage of Gabriel's fights he figured it does not really make much difference. How Gabriel trains is not really how he always fights but I think there would be at least 20 of his pro fights with Glory, Bellator, Hero Legends and now Karate combat and some others out on the internet.
      Gabriel has been teaching since he was a very young guy. Gabriel taught with me 4 -6 times a week starting around 25 years ago and Gabriel has always enjoyed it and thought it an important part of being a martial artist.
      Gabriel does truly feel fortunate in the life that the martial arts has allowed him to have and he has continued teaching 5 kids classes a week even now.
      The TH-cam channel allows him to help many other people he would never of had the opportunity to help out.
      When Gabriel was transitioning from other forms of martial arts to kickboxing and then started competing there was nothing like Gabriel does on TH-cam. Gabriel would watch and rewatch all of his favourite K 1 fighters - and that was an incredible time with an amazing group of the best fighters ever. Gabriel learned from watching - a nugget here an incredible technique there - Gabriel just wanted to put it all together to help other people with todays internet technology.
      Some of Gabriel's attitudes of course come from home and he has heard me tell students for decades "I have created nothing - I am just showing you something that I was taught by someone else". Gabriel does the same.
      Gabriel's dad - Keith
