I was in the dungeon when Barakus was training at Bret’s. He worked the odd stampede show. A 12” piece of 1” rebar is less stiff.
Hey man,
I had a friend who said, that Barakus was lazy and thought that since he already had a WWF contract, he did not give a shit about actually being a good pro wrestler. Effectively, wanted to take short cuts without putting in the work.
Brakus.
"you couldn't draw a deep breath with him" .... love it dutch.
700 a week?!
Thats double my old military paycheck 10 years later
Giant Gonzales was horrible. He was actually signed by the Atlanta Hawks and just couldn't play. So Ted Turner who owned the team and WCW decided to give him a shot at wrestling.
I met Gonzales at a mall in Alpharetta GA. He had to be the tallest person I ever seen up close. Very cool person. I will always remember him from saying, "I want the belt"!
@@mariotweedy5030
He was definitely huge! He just couldn't play basketball or wrestle
Why do sth athletic with someone who could barely walk? Never got it. Make him an enforcer or sth intimidating (wrestling, movies, shows)
And the fact that Gonzalez obviously couldn't wrestle, always had me baffled as to why WWF hired him.
@@willhorting5317 Well you know Vince thought all big guys were going to be over.
Maybe because I am not a very wealthy man but $700 a week in the early 90's seems like some pretty decent money for a rookie wrestler. That's roughly $1600 in today's money. Which adds up to around $80k a year.
You're correct. People tend to talk about past money by today's standards. 700 a week is great when you take into account that rent on average was around 300-450 a month in the 90s, and groceries/utilities were considerably cheaper as well.
Now factor in taxes and road expenses
Also they had to pay their own medical and insurance bills. Rocky was already being groomed to be a top guy and had deep family connections to WWE. Not fair, but it makes sense.
There's just so many wrestlers who never learned the difference between show muscles and go muscles
Cesaro/Claudio or Gable = go muscles
Brakus or Connan Chris Walker = show muscles
I love that line. Forgot where I heard it.
Chris Walker could work. Best drop kick ever !!@@smarkslowplay3512
@@Fencellisk Tyson Kidd used that line ;-)
@@smarkslowplay3512To give credit to Brakus, he was top 10 Olympia bodybuilder, you dont really need "go muscles" for that, to have "go muscles" for wrestling you need training, and the guy wrestled for less than 3 years in total
Who else thought the guy on the thumbnail was The ultimate warrior ( Jim Hellwig) 😂.
If I didn't jump on the WWF/E bandwagon in 1997 (late 1996, hey, the Stone Cold injuring Pillman is what got my eyes glued, but not fully yet), maybe I would've, but it was 1997, the year that I was introduced to the In Your House Arcade game in which Warrior was the only wrestler I didn't know because the other nine wrestlers were still on the roster while Warrior wasn't, and then I start my action figure collection on Jakks Series 2 starting with Undertaker and Bret Hart while seeing that the rest of the series featured Owen Hart, Vader, and Shawn Michaels along with? the only IYH roster member to not be on the WWF roster since the Summer of 1996 The Ultimate Warrior (even though I had a better chance of knowing Warrior before I even heard of Brakkus, and I make jokes about Tom Brandi being forgettable, this Brakkus guy holds no candle to him, but at least he can say he's more remembered than Kevin Quinn, I feel sorry for Quinn in this category)
@@BigLee1901I remember seeing Brakus live and thinking this dude is going to be huge! Boy was I wrong. Lol
Guilty.
No, just some other idiot with no talent.
I thought it was.
I was a 12 year old kid fascinated with bodybuilding, so I knew Barakas as Achim Albrecht. He was big and wide and ripped, but didn't do a whole lot in the pro leagues of bodybuilding if I remember correctly- but was seen a lot in ads. Strange to make a similar impression in two businesses. But, here we are talking about it still. So, that's something anyways...
In WWE the mid 2000's was also a dark time for numerous bad workers. Heidenreich, Kenzo Suzuki and Luther Reigns etc. Gene Snitsky wasn't the best, however, he deserves a HOF induction just for punting the baby doll.
Luther reigns I only know about him for the thansgiving segment on smackdown
@@herecomesdatrainYeah, he was also in Kurt Angle's group along with Mark Jindrak. When Kurt (wheelchair) was Smackdown GM in '04, Luther acted as his bodyguard for a while.
@@LoneWolf-fi4lx I do remember that
@@LoneWolf-fi4lx Was that really in 04? I honestly feel old now. I loved that era of Smackdown but it's hard to believe it was so long ago.
I love how Dutch just walks out. No notice. *Not doin it!*
**Steve Austin staring at his USWA check** Jeff Jarrett: "What, if you stare at it long enough do you think the numbers will change?" And thats why Austin refused to have any sort of program with Jarrett once he became a top guy in WWE. :) Yep, USWA was NOTORIOUS for no paying anyone squat.
Jerry Jarrett was great at running the business, but he outright cheated guys out of money the entire time.
Good.....karma's a bitch sometimes
Also explains why Jarrett cut that salty promo on Austin in WWF too.
@@MagneticlawJeff's not really received any karma though: worth millions, in better condition to Austin, happily married, still doing what he loves
@@ThePatcore And Austin wasn't crazy about Debra and Jeff's "friendship"
Pit fighter vibes from that photo.
Yup that game.

I remember when they sent Giant Gonzalez to Memphis. I talked to him once. He was a really nice guy. They just put him on tv way too soon because of his size. It was amazing how massive he was. He was even bigger in person than he was on tv.
The ultimate warrior was a cringe to look at but as time went on i think he developed into something unique we never saw before in the 80s and sold out lots of arenas . He was kind of like a comic book character that came out of comic page .and became very interesting.to look at. He didn't know how to wrestle but made a good brawler . An Entertainer for the family .but i do agree with dutch but in his early days the ultimate warrior was a cringe .at first. .
Warrior wasn't great, but he could deliver the basics and had excellent endurance for his body size
WCW should have brought him in as Alex Wright bodyguard alone with The Wall when he turned into Berlin
Alone with the wall. How does one come in alone with someone with him?????
@@Donkehy-puncharellothe same way your mom came in with the whole town u live in
@thesupervisor3270 seriously, your grammar was jacked up on that comment. Just fix it! Turned into Berlin? Wtf?
You dont know Alex Wright's wrestling gimmick as "Berlin" ?
Along with his bpdyguard who was nicknamed as "The Wall"?
Use ur brain first before comment
@arielquelme your grammar is about as bad as his, and we have no idea who you're even talking to.
Eugene remembers Glen Kulka.
From what I've heard, the 2 x 4 might have had a better match then Brakkus.
They did build Brakkus as German. But when he tried to do a promo in German he stuttered and stumbled over every single word barely even able to introduce himself. The german commentary tried to save the situation by saying he might forgot the language due to not being in Germany for a long time, but it was way too bad for him getting over as a German wrestler in Germany.
His beard when he talks😂😂
I will never see a worse wrestler than giant Gonzales. And this is coming from khalis number one fab legit
I would rather watch Gonzales than Khali or Satnam Singh. All 3 are terrible. I felt bad for my friend that finally got a tryout match with WWE and he had to lose a squash match to Khali. Just terrible
Had to go refresh my memory on Brakus and there's a match of him against Jesus from Los Boricuas that barely went 2 minutes. Even for a squash match that was terrible.
Only thing closer to an Indian heel gimmick that worked in North-America was Karachi Vice in Stampede Wrestling.
Tiger Ali Singh always reminded me of a brown Mr Perfect.
Elbow Pads| Taped Wrists|MMA Style Gloves Past Present Future
Dutch you two are awesome! Thanks 🙏
You're welcome
The question is to focus on the WORST wrestler(s)… NOT actors. Mr. T. doesn’t count.
Certain people who immediately come to mind are…
- Al Tomko (destroyed Vancouver All-Star promotion);
- George Gulas (controversial in everything especially nepotism);
- Bruce Hart (yes, Bret Hart’s brother - much too predictable in the ring);
When I get through the with you Murdock I pity you you fool
Good ol George Gulas...
Tiger Ali Singh was grandfathered into the business without paying his dues because of his dad being famous in Japan and that got him his start in tag matches with his dad. His dad was fascinating in himself being a megastar for years as a heel with crazy entrances and later known for deathmatches, he was also fairly popular in Canada during the 70's. I think with this kid his dad pushed him too soon and Vince saw what his dad did in Japan and hoped somehow to recreate it but he stunk up the joint.
case in point not everybody can do everything. Accept it and do what you are meant to do
Dutch is one of those rare wrestlers of the 70's and 80's, that are not bitter.
Baracus! Someone REALLY liked the best of the best 2.
Haha, I thought exactly the same thing! The first time I heard this guy’s name mentioned, I immediately felt that they’d swiped the name from that movie. 😂
@@beardofdoom8174 not only that! He WAS also German! That cemented it!
WWE sure had some stinkers for wrestlers. Brakus. I saw a match between him and Taz in ECW on YT minutes ago. Fine bodybuilder, lousy wrestler. The match ECW hyped to death between him and Taz lasted below five minutes.
Like every Goldberg match?😂
Love your show, love Dutch but I must know? What's your opinion of that air filter behind you there?
Lol when Dutch said “The Rock says” I thought he was going to tell James to “Know his role”
Originally I thought the Sheepherders when I first seen them
But after many battles .. even with Road Warriors, they actually did arm drags , surf boards .. good matches until the blood
Another stiff was the original Jason the Terrible
but he goes off the top rope with head butts with the hockey mask
Never mind gimmick or crossover guys who weren't really wrestlers. My pick is a guy who had no excuse. He wrestled a long time and got a push in several territories, but even a casual fan could say, "I'm better than him." That's the Magnificent Zulu.
I’ll always remember J.R discussing an El Gigante promo he cut …”Ric Flair …I k- you …”. Jim Ross is like ohh boy.
1million rupee's is around $12k, so was about right
Brakus’s real name is Achim Albrect. He was a German professional bodybuilder in the 90’s. I was a huge bodybuilding and wrestling fan so when I was watching I think ECW one night and saw the dude they called Brakus come out my first thought was “ holy shit Achim Albrect is doing wrestling now !?” Then I actually saw him wrestling and I was like “oh ok not for long “ 😂 He was considered a mass monster back in the day but he had terrible symmetry and guys like Flex Wheeler and Paul Dillet came in and made him look like shit.
he made top 10 at 91 Mr Olympia?
To be Fair. Brakus didnt know the Fall for all was real fighting. Savio Vega (his Opponent) said that.
That raw taping on the network from 96 or 97 in Germany was brutal. Pretty sure Brachus was the main event or if not main event a major part of the show.
I remember brakkus on ECW for a few appearances and was he in one of the "best of the best" direct to video movies as the bad guy.
If he was, it wasnt televised ever. They ran vingettes on Brakkus for months, but he never actually appeared on tv until Brawl For All in summer 98
@@ThePatcore I'm thinking "hardcore tv" which ECW had in syndication before cable tv.
@@SAM-ru4vx Haha, I actually remember watching that! Julia Roberts' brother Eric was the main good guy and the dude who played the Native American in Predator was in it. No way THAT Brakus was the same guy as the wrestler, he could actually do the fight scenes without tripping over himself.
Always great insight from dutch
Was Flex Kavana bad in USWA😂😂😂❤
The only good in Brakkus is his theme song ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
When I was a kid WWF came to Germany and I was lucky to get tickets for a bonus show in Hamburg. And suddenly there was that guy in the ring.. Brakkus. All the audience thaught they only brought him up because he's german and WWF wanted to pander to the german audience. But we all were soooo bored and annoyed to see that "nobody" to us. We wanted to see the real Superstars not some german Arnold-wannabe we've never seen before.
It took Singh 5 years to fully heal from his injuries which he got going in the ring in Puerto Rico...
Jim Hellwig and Steve Borden were stiff as hell. When they started out in Memphis.
Wasn’t braikas in best of the best 2 as the bodyguard?
What Dutch said about how you can tell if the guy is any good just by the way that he walks to the ring is absolutely true. El Gigante's WCW debut, I was just a kid when I saw that and I immediately knew that he was going to stink it up.
His gate and body motions were stiff as a board. The guy literally looked like he was incapable of moving and just....rigid And zero fan interaction and even less charisma.
I forget who it was he debuted against but it was supposed to be a squash match obviously and whoever was just ran circles around him physically. The whole 2 minute match was completely unbelievable
The funny thing in wrestling history tiger ali singh he lost his entrent in the 2001 rumble choice to drew carey (tiger wasn't in the rumble, but he lost his pick) if that isn't telling something
Pop quiz Who were Tigers 2 choices in the 2001 royal rumble??
Chief Jay Strongbow?
The Chief drew $$$$$$$$$$$$$$
Why have I never heard of Dutch Mantell? Who the hell is Baracus? I never heard of him either.
Not to say that Brakus (sp) wasn't rough, but is Dutch so out of touch that he doesn't realize that many great, even legendary, wrestlers were bodybuilders?

Cena
Kevin Sullivan

Kerry Von Erich trained like a bodybuilder, had a bodybuilders physique, yet still performed very well.
You had to know this Dutch. Sometimes some pro wrestlers that weren't known for their physique like to put down others who may have also looked good. I think this is the case here.
Wasn’t barakus in best of the best 2 with Eric Roberts?
I think they are not trained properly in terms of how to execute the fundamentals the right way so that another issue
Angelo Mosca Jr. was absolutely the worst I have ever seen in the entire 45 years of being a fan of wrestling.
tony kahn is a modern day tiger ali singh
Achim Albrecht lol
What about George Gulas?
Wrestling started to go to Hell when "show muscles", like the man below mentioned, took over the sport. And you lost the really great athletes like Arn or Harley who looked like mean truck drivers but KNEW HOW TO WRESTLE and could go and go for 55 minutes under 120-degree lights...
The pot calling the kettel black.
Am I the only one who misses seeing dutch on TV
no
Giant Gonzales, The Ultimate Ring Rope Shaker, Mr T , Zeus, Mabel, etc, there are tons of them.
Mr. T at least had charisma. And could do a promo.
Ultimate ring rope shaker lol 🤣
Savio punished Brakkus.
i mean, great khali literally killed someone in the ring.. he had the worst attitude ever too.. This guy has to be up there in the all time worst wrestlers ever.
I'm pretty sure that was an accident.
Who did he kill? I guess I never heard about that incident. Although, I haven’t followed wrestling very seriously since the early 2000’s - so it very easily could have been something I simply missed.
@@IDSnowman Brian Ong. The two were training together and it happened accidentally.
@@camerondalton1495
Oh damn. That’s crazy. But I guess in that line of work, an inch of a miss could lead to a catastrophic ending.
I always hated the great Khali. I think he was as stiff as a board and couldn't do much
I went to the show Mayhem in Manchester and Brakkus fought Jeff Jarrett and the crowd was pro JJ.
Jarrett was the heel
Brakus and HBK were doing a promotional tour in Germany in 97 or maybe late 96ish
Talk about a difference in popularity
I was there too. First match on the card. JJ carried it all the way.
The sound is out of sync. You need Dutch to clap on camera for a cue up
ZUES was the worst!

Brakkus was Vince's pet project. That much is obvious.
HHH, Orton, JBL, Droz, kenny drexter, seth Rollins, Chyna ( R.I.P.), mongo, Michelle Mcool, bella twins, warlord, Rusev, and i could go on and on about wrestlers who suck@
Did Dutch mention he is one of the worst wrestlers ever
Honestly you cant legitimately blame Brakkus for being terrible and stiff in the ring because he was NEVER TRAINED PROPERLY...want to blame anyone, blame Vince
He was trained by Bret.
@@ForeverRetro31 ever heard that phrase "you can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink"? Same applies here...doesn't matter WHO trained him, you can't make a boulder move if it doesn't want to...brakkus legit had ZERO business being in the ring...NO teacher could train a block of wood properly. Personally, I LOVED brakkus because he definitely had "a look" but that's all that he had
Dutch is INFINITESIMAL
VKM loved bodybuilders.
Always seemed some latent homosexuality.
Should Ryback be on this list? I have heard he wasn't safe to work with.
Gonzales was pathetic!
Wrestling isn't real sheesh
that's true but the presentation they wanted to seem real production and everything
Ludwig Borga was great
It showed how much Brakus sucked, Jeff Jarrett could wrestle a broom and get a good match out of it unfortunately Brakus is no broom.
"Bodybuilders dont make good wrestlers? Ask Cena and HHH
they were the exception. still, bodybuilders are 0s in life.
Sting would like a word...
To be fair Triple H was a huge wrestling fan first. He got in to bodybuilding after becoming a fan.
