Voldemort didn't "possess" Tom Riddle. The point of the reveal was to show that the boy Tom Riddle, from the past, IS Voldemort. That kid became Voldemort...like Anakin became Vader.
Tom's full name is "Tom Marvolo Riddle", and 5 mins with a pencil and paper shows that this is an anagram of "I am Lord Voldemort"! Like in most novels, there is usually a clue in each name.
Bad analogy, because Anakin did NOT "become Darth Vader through an outside force" ... and Riddle would have "sucked the life force from Ginny to reincarnate himself" (he doesnt "enter Ginny's body"). So both your comparison AND your "original description" are WRONG!
Cute fact, Hagrid’s dog, named Bella irl, got very attached to the kids during filming. So much so she kept screwing up the take with Aragog because she wouldn’t stop trying to protect Dan Radcliffe from the giant animatronic spider. Such a good doggie 🥰
The standing ovation for Hagrid was cause he spent like a week in the most soul destroying vile prison the wizarding world has. That he could smile was an achievement in itself when he came back
i wonder if being a half giant made azkaban more bearable since being padfoot helped sirius. its been a while since ive read the books but it seems like the dementors harm humans the most & the less human you are the less they affect you
So Tom Riddle was not possessed by Voldemort, HE IS VOLDEMORT. Voldemort preserved his memories of how to open the Chamber in the diary and then enchanted the diary to siphon of the life force of whomever wrote in it should they start confiding in the diary...as one tends to do. Ginny started using the diary and started pouring all her fears and anxieties into it so Tom was able to start siphoning her life force and using her to open the chamber. As he drained her life, he would become stronger and eventually return as an actual corporeal being. Essential Voldemort would have been reborn as his 16 year old self if he had succeeded.
Also, also, as a die hard Tolkien fan, I do hope you stick out Lord of the rings, just remember it's one very long movie so don't rate the films by themselves. Once you watch all three, you will understand so much and I promise you get all the closure you need and want. You may even come to sympathize with Boromir. And if you still don't really care for the series, that's okay too. Don't let anyone come at you for your opinions. Tolkien built this massive world but his works are incredibly wordy and likely would not be published today for having too much purple prose so trying to take all of that and translate to the screen was a huge undertaking and Peter Jackson did an amazing job, but it's still sooo much, so it's definitely not for everyone.
I wonder, would the Horcruxes work for Voldy 2.0 if the diary's plan had succeeded? No reason they should, right? So eventually there would be two Voldemorts running around, and I don't think either would be thrilled about the other...
I believe his family also created the sleak easy hair potion or at least an early version of it. Hilarious since his perpetual messy hair is apparently a family trait lol
his family is actually notable for their ability to make incredibly useful everyday wizard potions there are a few other potions they're credited with inventing, but they slip my mind as to what they are, they go more into them in the books
Fawkes's tears healing Harry, while Ashleigh's wondering why he's sad and me imagining Fawkes being like _"I'm sorry, Harry, I wish I could heal you, but I'm just not sad at all. I'm feeling pretty merry right now, really."_
Glad to hear that. I feel Tom Felton, by virtue of having done such a good job playing such a rotten little shit, hasn't had the post-Potter opportunities that some of the other lead kids have had.
You always have to remember that there are two kinds of sequels: the ones that were made for cash-grab, and the ones that were planned from the start, because the story just isn't over yet. Harry Potter is a 7-part story (adapted into 8 movies) that doesn't just end with Harry's first school year. Shit is going down in this series.
Best cash grabs: Aliens, Terminator 2, The Dark Knight, The Last Crusade, Road Warrior, Fury Road, Wrath of Khan, Blade Runner 2049, Evil Dead 2, Army of Darkness, Top Gun: Maverick, Drunken Master 2, etc...
Definitely. Very well said. The same can be said of Lord Of The Rings which had to have two sequels as it is a trilogy. The Hobbit, on the other hand should have been only two movies max.
@@williamstefens It was supposed to be, but the studio told Peter Jackson he had to make it into 3, hence all the padding and fluff that he had to put in. When he started producing the thing he had to start right from the beginning. There wasn't even a script finished. That's why most of the set pieces had to be CG. I was watching a documentary on it.
@@Cinesta76 Yeah, I had heard Peter Jackson was thrown into taking over directing the Hobbit with an insane Time schedule, leaving him no time rework anything, and had basically direct the movie on the fly instead being able to give it the deliberate and methodological attention he was able to give to LOTR. Could you imagine how much better The Hobbit could have been if Peter was allowed to direct the movie from the very beginning. Still surprised he wasn't given more power and control to set how many movies it would be and be able to rework the storyline to fit into two movies instead of three. The producers wanted LOTR to be just two movies, but Peter Jackson put his foot down and insisted it had to be three like with the books. Oh well. The Hobbit is still very good, but could have been that much better if the producers kept their greedy little fingers out the cinema cookie jar, and gave Peter Jackson the reins to work his magic.
The amazing trick JK Rowling pulled off was making each book a little more grown up than the previous one. Harry (and the story) literally grew up with the audience. We went from a whimsical children’s book to a dark young adult story. It is probably one of the most amazing literary feats ever. A modern classic.
That's because she adapted the books to her own children growing up. She said she did not only want to create something entertaining but first and foremost something that teached something valuable, which is also the reason why she had to make some really cruel choices considering her character's fates.
In the book, Fred and George joking about Harry being the heir is sarcastic, to emphasize how stupid the idea is. "Out of the way! Make a hole! Seriously evil wizard coming through!"
The book is also where we realize that Fred and George are more then just jokers since they go out of their way to keep Harry safe during the quditch match and get mad at Wood for telling Harry to win or die trying

Don't see them as sequels, they are part of one, long story. The first two movies just set the pieces on the board. The kids grow older and become better actors as well.
Okay, I flat adore Dobby and eventually Ashleigh will too but that “You mean to tell me this little naked mole rat is about to walk in on this dinner party?” made me straight cackle, y’all! 😂🤣😂
You adore him as a moviegoer? I admit he had his moments (won't get into them as they are spoilers) but he was far better in the books. I mean, considering they only let him in two movies when he was in all but two books...
@@jp3813 She doesn't know why, how or what he does in book or movie. I didn't even say which movie. I've seen spoilers on this video regarding the diary that are far worse than one character returning less than he does in the books.
Kenneth Branagh as Lockhart is absolutely hilarious. Also love Isaacs as Lucius, he plays evil characters so damn well. Btw, Isaacs and Tom Felton have a lovely relationship IRL, they call each other "dad" and "son" from time to time.
I love that statement. "I thought Star Wars people were mean, but those Lord of The Rings people are ruthless." I collapsed laughing. From brain to mouth no filter. I love that.
It's funny because it's true. The hardcore fantasy/sci fanboys are honestly the worst. They see themselves as heroes defending their worlds/franchise, without realizing they actually drive people away from the franchises they claim to love so much.
@@quentilDid you watch her review? Had NOTHING to do with LOTR. She was actually bitching about how long the movie was before she started and she continually kept bitching about it or wondering what was going on because she missed parts of the movie because she was bitching through the whole damned thing. If you cannot sit through an extended cut movie either cut the review in half and do 2 parts or don't do it at all. Better, get the theatrical release, that's all I ever watched and it was long. I defy any of you to sit through that whole review. She is blaming her fans for her discourtesy and bitching? I'm not a fan boy, I like LOTR and Harry Potter, but that review was unwatchable. Notice how I went on and on and on? It is what she did.
Tom Marvollo Riddle (hell of a middle name) is Voldemort's real name. It was his diary, that allowed him to try to return to his power. As for Hagrid - he raised Aragog, and Tom Riddle basically framed Hagrid (and Aragog) for the death of Moaning Myrtle. I can't remember if this was explained in the movie, but the basilisk' glare is fatal - the only reason no one died this time is because they all saw the glare through something, or as a reflection.
Pretty sure they imply it at first and then explain it outright when Hermione is found petrified Basically exposition as to why nobody's died this time around
Like Dobby said, when the house-elf's OWNER gives them clothes they are freed from their service. That's why the sock was slipped into the book, because Malfoy handed it to Dobby and so without knowing handed him the sock.
And to answer Ashleigh's question, Dobby is now a free elf. He belongs to no family. We find out later in the books that elves feel they _must_ belong to a family, and that most elves consider Dobby more than a little gaga.
Telling a house-elf to do laundry isn’t the same as physically handing them clothes, even if said clothes are in something like a book. You put clothes in hamper, house-elf take hamper at some later time. Now if the elf were holding said hamper and you dropped a jumper into it that’s probably a different story, lol
If I remember correctly, the whole “the spider is the monster” incident 50 years prior was the reason Hagrid lost his wand, his place at the school, etc. so maybe the standing ovation was kinda nice cuz his name was finally cleared! But yes a little dramatic too 😂
I can't wait to see you do reactions to the rest of the Harry Potter movies. They start as kids movies, but they grow up with the characters and audience. They more and more amazing with each film. Especially the last four movies.
Since the movie didn’t cover this topic as much, here’s a few pointers on the secrecy of the magical world: -Muggles aren’t “technically” supposed to know about the magical world due to the International Statute of Wizarding Secrecy, which safeguards the presence and knowledge of magic from muggles and the world at large. -The Statute of was officiated in 1692, the same year as the Salem Witch Trials in America. -Only close relatives of witches and wizards, such as Seamus Finnigan’s muggle father and Hermione’s muggle parents, are allowed to know about magic.
I always think of Harry Potter movies as Christmas movies. The shot of Hagrid pulling the Christmas tree in the first movie just stuck in my head. So I rewatch the series around Christmas every year
I've seen quite a few Harry potter reactions, and this is the funniest one, "How is a snake writing this, they don't got no hands" lmao. And you keep calling him Vaultemort, lol I love it.
the car that Ron is driving is a Ford Anglia! I LOVE IT!!! It was my brother's first car around 1968. Growing up in San Francisco it was so cool. Wish I had one now! My Brother's Car was Red.
fun fact, jo had a friend named sean who had a ford anglia and they used to listen to the smiths and escape from school. those cars bring strong memories :)
Dobby is now a free elf, Harry technically "gave" the sock to Draco's Dad in the book so when Draco's Dad gave the book to Dobby he also gave him the sock which freed him.. It's not addressed in the movies but in the books he begins working as a paid employee of Hogwarts in the kitchen..
So the Voldemort of the first movie is just his spirit, for lack of a better term. When he tried to kill Harry as a baby, giving him the scar, his physical body was destroyed but he didn’t die. He had to wait until he could find someone to hitch a ride with, namely Quirell. In this movie, the reason stabbing the diary killed him is when he was a student named Tom Riddle, he put some of his spirit into the diary for… reasons… and that fragment of Voldemort is what was possessing and feeding off of Ginny. So the Voldemort in this movie is wholly separate from the one you met in the first movie, and has been for 50 years. It’s like he saved a copy of his teenaged self and kept it in his old diary. Harry stabbing it just deleted the save.
“It’s time to follow the spiders!” Oh Ashleigh, I’m so proud of you, and I mean that genuinely, not condescendingly! You’re really getting the way movies work!
One of the deleted scenes that infuriated me was aunt Petunia sharing a moment with Harry telling him that she lost a sister to. That was such an important scene just glossed over when it came to the cinema release.
Voldie didn't possess Tom Riddle. He is Tom. He just inhabbited the diary in a certain way. What Dumbledore was mentioning the to Lucius about Voldie acting through someone this time (Ginny), he meant the first time Tom/Voldie opened the chamber he was at hogwarts, and he did it himself (before blaming Hagrid and then closing it back up). He was a memory preserved in the book, not the active Voldie. The Voldie from the first movie is still out there doing his thing. And Dumbledore didn't send Fawkes and the hat to Harry, as you saw.. he was not allowed on the grounds at the time, being suspended. Harry's loyalty drew Fawkes and the sword to him. As for Hagrid, he was in Azkaban, a Wizard prison. We are happy he is back.
Just so you aren't in total shock, the actor that plays Dumbledore in Sorcerer's Stone and Chamber of Secrets died after the second movie. They had to recast Dumbledore, so when you watch the next one just know that a different actor plays Dumbledore going forward.
I particularly enjoyed seeing Mark Williams, aka Mr Weasley, in the Potterverse, as I've seen and enjoyed his work in two major British sci-fi fandoms. First, he was Lister's annoying friend Petersen in Red Dwarf, then went on to play the father of Arthur Darvill's character Rory Williams in Dr Who. Oh, and re: the aggressive, magical tree....All I can say is, you'll find out.
I didn’t grow up with Harry Potter. I was a full grown adult when the books and movies came out. But, nonetheless, I love them to pieces! They’re so entertaining and cute and scary. I’ve found myself wishing that I had had the chance to go to Hogwarts when I was a kid!
Same. I was still in high school when the first 3 books came out, but I didn't know anything about Harry Potter until they started making it into movies. I was already an adult by the time they started making the movies. My grandma was actually the one to introduce me to Harry Potter. She was a massive fan of the Harry Potter series. She convinced me to watch Sorcerer's stone. LOL, she had a copy on VHS. It wasn't until watching Chamber of Secrets that I really started to get into the series and began reading the books. I didn't want to have to wait a year + for them to make a movie to find out what happened next. Every time a new book would come out I would completely devour it. A new movie would come out and I'd be there to watch it in the theaters, but how cool would it have been to experience this franchise as a child and to actually be the ages of Harry, Hermione, and Ron? and to grow up with our main characters?
It actually took me a LONG time to start liking Harry Potter, I used to hate it, than I was starting to get interested when I actually PAID ATTENTION to the first Lego game, than I watched the movies and loved them.
You’re going to love the next ones. Keep going with it please 🙏. To note, Dobby literally couldn’t speak ill of the Malfoy family. House elves can’t disobey their family so if the Malfoys commanded him not to speak of them, he physically couldn’t.
The first two Harry Potter's were on repeat in my house when I was a kid (On VHS!). They still have this air of innocence and whimsy about them to me, before everything got all dark and murdery. Moaning Myrtle was slightly pervy in book 4 if I remember correctly, peeping on Harry bathing. "I'll be in my room, making no noise and pretending I don't exist" is such a damn mood.
I got the third movie on VHS for Christmas one year, but I guess my divorced parents didn't coordinate presents because my dad bought me and my siblings our first DVD player. So I had to choose to either return it and get he DVD or not, and I just couldn't wait to watch it, so I chose to keep the tape. Crazy how much has changed since then.
Ashleigh: This is not the time for the sorting hat Also Ashleigh: Harry, Dumbledore sent you the hat for a reason you should have done something with it
Harry Potter films are not "sequels." They are a continuation of a 7-year story. In the next film, you'll understand why everyone was so glad to see Hagrid back from Azkaban. ... And, yes, the movies grow increasingly dark. JK Rowling expected her readers to grow up fast.
Not too fast, 'cause she had to write the next book each time, and that doea take time. But everybody seemed to get each book as it hit the shelves, and then had to wait ... and wait ... for the next one to be released.
You can see it in the movies that the stories get progressively darker too. The Warner Bros Logo gets a little bit darker in each movie as the series progresses.
@@benrossmckenna I think what they mean is that they aren't "sequels" in the same way that Ashley tends to think of sequels - i.e. cash grabs. She talks a lot about not wanting to watch sequels. So I think it's important to make a distinction for her here.
Awwww!!! Harrypurrrrrrrrrrter - I love that you named him that! I was hoping you like the squeeze toy/stress ball - what could be better? Cats and Harry Potter combined? hehe. Hugs!
This movie starts to show what I like to call the “Shift” in tones in Harry Potter. This is the last one Chris Columbus directed and coincidentally is the last one that has that “Home Alone” bright and warm feeling. You’ll notice what I mean as you watch the later movies.
Love Ashleigh’s reactions to this Harry Potter movie! I think once Ashleigh watches all the Harry Potter Movies, I want to go with her and a small group of subscribers and go to Universal Studios Orlando Harry Potter theme park and see how she reacts to the full experience once she fully understands HP!
Ashleigh, please finish the series ❤️ Every time you question something, I think “you’ll get all the answers!” You will not be disappointed, I promise!
The diary was a Horcrux containing a small part of Voldemorts soul when he was still a boy with the name "Tom Marvolo Riddle", you will learn more of Horcruxes in the last films. And you will also learn about why Snape acts like he does towards Harry. I recommend you to see all films in the serie.
Now the man who plays Dumbledore- Richard Harris this was his last film before his death and so for all of the Harry Potter films after this they had another actor to play him.
Richard Harris was wonderful but Micheal Gambon, who takes over starting in HP3, is fantastic as well. He really puts his own spin on the character and, IMO, gives him a bit more of a quirky, endearing personality.
Ashleigh, you will find that these movies are a pretty decent adaption of the books, but still change a lot of things as well as missing a lot of characters and information given in the books. You will probably question and be confused about some things because of that. As the book series continued, they grew in size, yet the movies still have to have a time limit.
Prisoner of Azkaban is my favorite book but not my favorite movie because the style changed so much from Chamber of Secrets to Prisoner of Azkaban. I guess Philosopher's Stone is my favorite Harry Potter movie.
11:50 That is "Mrs. Norris", the cat of Filch (the caretaker/janitor), and the name comes from the Jane Austen novel "Mansfield Park". I would advise you, Ashleigh, to read it, because the cat's "alignment" is about as mean as that of Mrs. Norris.
The "chain of possession" thing where Harry gives the sock to Lucius who then gives it to Dobby is an important precedent setter for another important transition of ownership. Not saying anything more about that here since it would be a huge spoiler, but it does show that magic is very literal in how it works. Same with "Diagon Alley" vs. "diagonally".
lol not to mention that he is a highly decorated actor and director, specializing in Shakespeare, award winning (Academy, BAFTA, Golden Globe, Emmy), and an actual knight.
I'm sure someone else has probably commented it, but so far Voldermort hasn't possessed anyone really. In the first film he attached himself to Quirrell but was technically separate and Quirrell did what he was told to do Voldermort wasn't in control. In this film, the person was the memory of the actual Voldermort when he was at school imbued into the book, it wasn't someone else and it wasn't the current Voldermort. Tom Riddle is Voldermort's real name. That "Voldermort" is gone and destroyed, but it doesn't change the real Voldermort who is still out there.
This is the last film with Richard Harris playing Dumbledore before he died and had to be recast by Michael Gambon. Both actors did well in different areas, Harris really got down Dumbledores Calm and patient nature that is described in the book, where the character was generally calm but could show his aggressive side only when he needed to. However in the later books, Dumbledore became more action focused, something Harris was far too old to portray, so Gambon was a better fit for the later more action Dumbledore. Still, there were parts in later films where Gambon played dumbledore way to dramatically when the character was required to be calm and collective. The most infamous example is in the fourth film, but I wont spoil that for you, im sure youll notice that when you see it
@@apatternedhorizon Literally the only thing they "spoiled" was that Dumbledore gets involved in more action stuff later, that's incredibly mild, chill out.
Fun fact - Drakeos dad was about to use the killing curse on Harry at the end. Oh and the actor who plays Drakeo came up with the line "I didn't know you could read."
I didn't quite catch it the first time I saw it due to Daniel Radcliffe's accent, but when Harry travels through the fireplace, he's supposed to say "Diagon Alley," which is where a lot of the wizard shops are, but he says "diagonally" instead, and that's when I realized that Diagon Alley and Knockturn Alley were puns.

@@nicholascross3557 No, you don't need to go on. A few examples would have sufficed and made your point, but you went for broke because...I don't know: reasons? Showing off? I'm aware--and became more aware as I read the books--of the wordplay throughout these stories, but those particular puns went over my head the first time I saw Chamber of Secrets. It wasn't until either I read the book or watched it with subtitles (I can't remember which it was) that I picked up on the fact that Daniel Radcliffe said "diagonally." Upon the first viewing, I just thought he pronounced "Diagon Alley" in a weird way, and that was why he ended up in the wrong place. Turns out it was that plus a joke about the location's name.
Fun fact - flying car is a 1962 Ford Anglia 105E. Cars built before 1967 are not required to have seatbelts fitted under UK law, so it was realistic for Harry not to be 'strapped in' during the scene where he nearly fell out of the door.
I was obsessed with snakes as a child, so imagine how I felt when I saw this movie for the first time when I was 6! This was the first HP movie I saw and it made me fall in love with the series.
Poor Dobby! He was doing his best from his abused and scared mindset. He was trying to help Harry as best he could. He was rebelling as far as he could & then physically harming himself after each attempt, just to try & keep one person safe. Essentially for house elves, read slaves. Dobby is a legend, he is a hero!
You should definitely watch the whole series, next movie things change, there are more mature themes, the danger increases, and a lot of questions get answered, some until the end of the series, totally worth watching.
The Harry Potter novels are basically a trilogy in 7 parts: The first novel is written from the perspectives of 11 year old students, and were meant to be read by an audience of 11 year olds. Back then, the readers would grow with the protagonists. OK, I started to read the first 4 novels, because my younger sister lended them to me, when I was 32, lying in hospital with a broken leg. Because the novels as well as the movies targeted an audience, that became one year older every year, the novels and movies become more and more sinister. I purchased all 7 novels, and read them all. I remember I pre-ordered novel number 7, before it came out in the book shops, and it had been delivered to my home. Novel number 7 became 2 movies. My favorite is still the 3rd novel / 3rd movie. If you wish to understand the whole story, you should watch all 8 movies. After that, you should read all 7 novels. Those Harry Potter movies were really good, but the novels were even better. Novel / Movie number 4 is really, really scary. Have fun.
What gets me is.the Weaselys knew Harry said "Diagon Alley" wrong, but nobody bothers to follow him in case he comes out somewhere...awkward. Which he does. They just go on their way. "Harry will turn up eventually, lets go shopping."
The actress of Moaning Myrtle is supposed to be a school girl. But Shirley Henderson was 37 at the time of filming :) But what bugs me the most is the fact that Lucius Malfoy would´ve killed Harry. At Hogwarts. In front of Dumbledores office.
Very minor spoilers~ They were going to cast someone more age-appropriate but went with an older actress because they knew she would get screen time in the 4th movie and it'd be weird if a ghost aged :)

Yea so both your parents can be non-magical. Thats why Harry’s aunt doesn’t like him because his mom was magical and she wasn’t and their parents treated them different from what I remember of the first movie

It's a whole THING with Hagrid. He really did NOT know that Aragog was going to serve up Harry and Ron to it's offspring. As far as Hagrid is concerned EVERYONE is misunderstanding creatures that are classified as monsters. Because they can't harm HIM as easily he thinks everyone should appreciate them as well. He really does not understand WHY people would be afraid of Aragog.
This is my least favorite of the entire series. It seems to be the one that is stuck between being a fun kids film and a more serious Fantasy/adventure whatever. If you keep watching the rest of the series, you'll probably like them more and more.

Tolkien built this massive world but his works are incredibly wordy and likely would not be published today for having too much purple prose so trying to take all of that and translate to the screen was a huge undertaking and Peter Jackson did an amazing job, but it's still sooo much, so it's definitely not for everyone.

19:15 That "I didn't know you could read" was an improvisation by Tom Felton that was just brilliant. It was perfect for the character.

Reminds me of Futurama when Fry drinks the Emperor of those liquid aliens and has to cry him out. Maybe Fawkes is just too macho to cry. ;)
Tom Felton (Malfoy) actually ad-libbed the "I didn't know you could read" line. The director liked it and kept it in the movie.
Yeah, apparently he panicked , forgot his line , improvised easily the funniest joke in the movie and everybody just rolled with it.
I wish that I knew the original lines from Malfoy.
Likewise, Lucius kicking Dobby down the stairs...Jason Isaacs improvised the kick and they animated Dobby accordingly
Glad to hear that. I feel Tom Felton, by virtue of having done such a good job playing such a rotten little shit, hasn't had the post-Potter opportunities that some of the other lead kids have had.
When?
@@Cinesta76
Yeah, I had heard Peter Jackson was thrown into taking over directing the Hobbit with an insane Time schedule, leaving him no time rework anything, and had basically direct the movie on the fly instead being able to give it the deliberate and methodological attention he was able to give to LOTR.

The most amazing trick is how she has not been targeted with lawsuits for stealing so very much material from other authors…🤣

I DO seem to recall the reflection matter being mentioned.
Got to spell it right, though, or the anagram doesn't work.
Pretty sure they imply it at first and then explain it outright when Hermione is found petrified
Basically exposition as to why nobody's died this time around
Jakub Minor point here, but Marvolo not Marvollo.
I love that in the French translation, his middle name needed to be Elvis in order to work.
We can’t answer your questions without spoiling the rest of the movies! Another great reaction as always!
Thank merlin Dobby didn't have to do any laundry before or the whole thing would have come to an early conclusion....
@@slytheringingerwitch Not sure if being TOLD to grab clothes counts, probably only if he was handed the laundry basket. LOL
Telling a house-elf to do laundry isn’t the same as physically handing them clothes, even if said clothes are in something like a book. Tom Riddle actually became Lord Voldemort after he left Hogwarts. The Tom Riddle in the movie was a memory from the diary.

Since the movie didn’t cover this topic as much, here’s a few pointers on the secrecy of the magical world:
-Muggles aren’t “technically” supposed to know about the magical world due to the International Statute of Wizarding Secrecy, which safeguards the presence and knowledge of magic from muggles and the world at large.
So I rewatch the series around Christmas every year

fun fact, jo had a friend named sean who had a ford anglia and they used to listen to the smiths and escape from school. those cars bring strong memories :)

Professor Sprout is the amazing Miriam Margolyes - she has an "interesting" career. Worth looking up just for the funsies.
Just look up her interviews… she’s a character for sure.
You didn't see "current" Voldemort in this movie. Tom Riddle was a piece of his soul he put into that diary when he was still in school, long ago.
The Harry Potter novels are basically a trilogy in 7 parts:
The first novel is written from the perspectives of 11 year old students, and were meant to be read by an audience of 11 year olds.
Have fun.
Ever since Ryan George said the phrase "annual child endangerment plan" I cannot think of these stories any other way.
But Shirley Henderson was 37 at the time of filming :)
But what bugs me the most is the fact that Lucius Malfoy would´ve killed Harry. At Hogwarts. In front of Dumbledores office.
Very minor spoilers~
They were going to cast someone more age-appropriate but went with an older actress because they knew she would get screen time in the 4th movie and it'd be weird if a ghost aged :)
@@AvereeChaloupka See, that's the kind of planning ahead a lot of the films unfortunately lack because not all the books were out yet when they were making these. I still love them, don't get me wrong, but part of me hopes they readapt the series more holistically someday since they can better plan ahead
He wasn't actually going to kill Harry. The actor just used the only spell he could remember.
@@erikperhs_ If he´d used "Avada Kedavra" Harry would´ve been dead.
They should´ve changed it then, don´t you think? :)
@@jahrolo I mean, unless he thought Harry was immune somehow? He escaped it once, so no-one really knows how he functions
Wow, Dolly's tour bus! So excited for that! Enjoy! Glad for Straight Talk, too. It's lesser known of hers, but I loved it and it's right up your alley.
The first two are directed by Chris Columbus, who did Home Alone, so they are very kiddy. Directors change from the 3rd movie and it gets a lot darker!
If you think about many of the tropes used for the rest of the series were formed in the 3rd movie.
I wouldn't say kiddie. he did get closer to the books than future directors
Fun fact: The car owned by the Weasleys is a 1962 Ford Anglia 105e, made at Ford's U.K. factory. I first saw one in the 1960 British film "Never Let Go." The Anglia in that film is a 1959 model, but to my eye looks the same as the one in Harry Potter. The Anglia in "Never Let Go" is central to the plot.
Yea so both your parents can be non-magical. Thats why Harry’s aunt doesn’t like him because his mom was magical and she wasn’t and their parents treated them different from what I remember of the first movie
Correct. And you find out in the sixth book that Petunia had actually written to Dumbledore, begging to be allowed at Hogwarts, and he personally wrote her back, kindly telling her that it wasn't possible. Petunia got very bitter after that.
@@Amanda-gg6kz awe thanks … as an individual I only got to reading the 4th book when I was a kid/preteen and I haven’t finished the book series unfortunately but that’s a good tidbit thank you Amanda
"I imagine the tree is a little more forgiving" 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
been watching your videos nonstop for a minute. Can't get enough of your country, blunt, no bs commentary lol
This is my least favorite of the entire series. It seems to be the one that is stuck between being a fun kids film and a more serious Fantasy/adventure whatever. If you keep watching the rest of the series, you'll probably like them more and more.
This one is so important to the later movies, though.
It’s my least favorite as well, but I love them all!
100% agree with this. They were still finding their footing. The next movie, Prisoner of Azkaban, found a new director, has a different tone, and is one of the best of the series 👍🏼
@@sassymonster4627 me too. Also, I liked the flying 🚙
@@RobFMDetroit yet the 4th is one is the worst as well.
The Harry Potter font that you like at the beginning of the movies starts out bright and brilliant metal and as the movies continue and get darker and darker, the font starts tarnishing....
You're on a roll with the franchise reactions at the moment! Harry Potter, MCU and LotR 👌🏻
The actor @5:32 was in the live of 101 Dalmatians he played one of the dog nappers who works for Cruella DeVil.
Voldemort didn’t posses Tom Riddle - that was young him as captured in his school diary.
Ginny got the diary from daddy Draco and in spending time with it Voldemort “possessed” her and used her first to do his physical bidding and open the chamber - but then he started draining her life to bring teenybop Tom to actual physical reality.
Ashley, you're a trip watching frightening scenes 🤣. Keep up the good work 👍
If you watch closely during the scene in the bookshop you can actually see Lucius Malfoy slip the diary into the cauldron.
