    Been debating one of these for awhile. Already have a nice ssl clone compressor and Allen and Heath vf1 filter, running mix thru zed 420, deciding on a parametric eq at about the same price. Feel like I can do these with that set up but this seems more of a creative unit.

    • @mpchead
      @mpchead  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, the Eq is really nice, not very flexible but does wonders to the beat. But it won't be a full on EQ. I am also looking at Parametric EQ's for this year, still need to do some research tough.

  • @corrosiveabuser

    For the price, the Analog Heat mkII is really a no-brainer IMHO. I think I paid £650 for mine new, which is crazy.
    8x stereo distortion/saturation circuits,
    7x stereo analog filters,
    Simple, yet sublime tone controls,
    Balanced ins/outs,
    Presets,
    And superb build quality.
    It has it's own, controlled, and unique sound... I'll never sell mine.
    Though, for full on, mono nastiness, I'd probably reach for one of my old Lovetone pedals, or some Boss unit coupled with a ReAmper and a DI box... The AH2 makes good things sound great, but it won't necessarily take a naff sound and make it exciting and interesting the way a good distortion or overdrive pedal can, - but that's not really its purpose....
    love to ALL, feel no hate

  • @turfoid7899

    I use it in small doses, but it has so much under the hood. I say its like having lfo tool, but in hardware form. I know its expensive, but I find its something i cannot get rid of lol
    Only thing id say as an owner of heat, is be careful with resonance. Like legit u can go deaf if its misused.

  • @TimesOfTheSines.official
    @TimesOfTheSines.official 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    These things are awesome... For the cost of a good pro class clean pre amp for better quality audio recordings. You get so much more than anything else for the cost of a decent outboard pre amp. These things are a ace clean pre amp for the price at very least... But you get all the dirt, dist, drive, warmth or enhancement to go on top... I haven't begun mentioning the creative filtering & modulation tricks for being a pro fx tool as well... for the $'s. I have one but I'll eventually prefer to own three. The Heats are the best outboard tools to pair in series connections to other good quality outboard fx units/pedals... If you have outboard multi fx or ddl gear... Stick your Heats before or after them... You will want to buy another Heat or 2 as well. Lol

    Great video, I was hoping u would make a video about the analog heat😁. The things u talk about in the end, videos on analog comps and eqs, sound super-interesting👍. There aren’t many (or any?) out there making videos on analog comps and eqs from a lofi/boom bap perspective.

  • @wesleyleigh4063
    @wesleyleigh4063 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Damn, I want one of these so bad but they are just so darn expensive! Saturation is such a significant part of music and my experience as a mix engineer, though I have probably 50 or so different distortion or harmonic colouration plugins and I use only a few, so it's hard to gauge whether i would even use these distortion models all that often. Distortion sounds best when it's reminiscent of old hardware or distortion types, and even light amount go a long way. Also I would seriously advise against buying hardware gear like compressors or EQ's as most big producers nowadays work in the box anyway, making them obselete imho. I just can't figure out whether it's worth getting hardware distortion gear, though this would be numero uno on my list.

    • @superbasssic
      @superbasssic 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You cant get this kind of sound in the box for now unfortunately even with DSP powered plugins like UAD's plugins, and i have tried pretty much all the Digital distortion plugins you can think of by now. Regarding the price thing, i never buy from big retail stores and sellers anymore especially right now with the economy the way it is its better to buying second hand equipment off of eBay or Reverb. Sometimes you can find a sellers selling at a 30-40 percent of the retail price.

    Me and my brother both produce, at the moment I just have small set up recording into sound card and daw. His studio is much bigger with a lot of older synths and outgear, no computer, all going through a midas mixer....his mixes have much better character than mine. I think my mixes also sounded better going through a mixer.

    • @Claidheambmor
      @Claidheambmor 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It'll be the process, not the gear, that makes your brother's mixes sound better. Don't overcook your sounds, keep overall levels low during the production phase, remove unnecessary frequencies with EQ and don't smash everything with compression, not least before the mixing/mastering phase.

    So in theory to record using this directly into the mpc you’d run the mpc main out into the heat then out of the heat back into the mpc? Figuring out routing is always super tricky to me as a hobby producer

    • @mpchead
      @mpchead  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I normally use it more for mastering the beats but if I want to use it to resample sounds through it I need to send the audio back into the Mpc. Use it just as an external effects module. Because the Heat only has one stereo out you have to be clever on how to use it.

    Hi Marlow Digs. I follow all your videos and am passionate about your TH-cam channel. My name is Marco and I would kindly need some information regarding the analog heat FX. I tried to contact Elektron but they don't give me an answer. The question is about gain staging.
    It is normal that by using the rear analog L/R inputs (therefore without using overbridge) and by putting the analog heat in bypass (after having adjusted the input to the maximum possible volume), I have a signal in the DAW that reaches the maximum around at -23 dbfs? Even if I activate the analog heat and adjust the output with the level knob I can push the maximum around - 23 dbfs before activating the exclamation point on the output meters. Can't I get a stronger signal out?
    If I push the signal more the exclamation points above the analog heat meters light up. Is it possible to increase the output signal without cutting anything?
    The channel on my apollo x16 is set to +4 dBu and I have no low volume issues with any other external hardware I own to get at least -12 dbfs in my DAW. I just want to know if this is a normal feature of the analog heat fx or I have some problem. Thank you and congratulations for your great work!
