    I’m excited to see the ram charger. Especially longevity wise. If the batteries can last and are easy to replace, this truck can serve not only as a great way to drive around town cheaply, but also as a portable generator for my house

    As someone who has owned a tesla, if you live in a small town they AREN't for you. You'll spend more time charging than driving. So the RAMREV doesn't make sense. The RAM Charger does chick boxes. I made several cross county trips in a tesla, and a 14 hour drive (AZ to Dallas) took 2 days because of the charging delays. If the ramrev had a 800 mile on paper range, and 5-600 mile actual range I would swing that way too,

    I think the Ramcharger is the best idea for those that want an electrified truck. But given the track record for Stellantis products (and frankly most new trucks) I wouldn't touch them with a 10ft pole. I have friends with new (22-now) trucks from all current US manufacturers, and they've ALL had their trucks spend extended periods of time, sometimes for electronic demons that plague the software, to unexplained catastrophic failures. Yes, all covered under warranty but when you need your truck to make a living, this is a huge problem.

    The appeal for me has less to do with EXTRA range than it does the ability to charge itself with a gas engine, that and the huge battery can run my house in a pinch.
    People seem to be rolling their eyes at the extra range claiming nobody drives that far, etc. That is not the point. Few people drive that far in a conventional gas engine in one trip.
    Nobody wants to be stranded at a charging station for half an hour + ever. If it takes more than 5 minutes to fill my sedan ALL the way up with gas from empty, something's wrong, and I'm probably finding another gas station.
    Also, gas is portable. If you're not paying as close attention as you should to the needle and you run out, someone can bring you more gas. And if you really want, you can simply carry extra gas. Not ever the case with electricity.
    The self charging is independence.

    • @ROMRreviews
      @ROMRreviews  10 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Yep. The whole conversation around "range anxiety" deeply flawed. It's not a range problem. It's a recharging problem.
      Loaded up and towing with my LX my range is realistically about 180 miles. Does that worry me at all? Nope. My kids's bladder or stomach won't make it that far anyway.
      We like EVs and have owned a few but their use case is still very limited. Manufacturers have been fixated on the wrong problem. Hopefully that tide is turning.

    I am torn on the charger vs rev. While the distance is awesome for the Charger you still have oil changes and other maintenance costs vs just being able to charge at home. I am really waiting to see what the actual tow range is with the ram rev.

    • @ROMRreviews
      @ROMRreviews  23 วันที่ผ่านมา

      We think towing range will come as quite a shock. Pun intended.

    • @buzz6775
      @buzz6775 19 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Yes, but if you drive around a city most of the time and use the Charger to tow a rec trailer a few times a year, your oil changes will be maybe once every 2 years or so. You will be driving battery only for the most part, never using the V6 to generate. Quite possible only putting on 1,000km in a year on that engine on the highway.

    • @chrisballengee5746
      @chrisballengee5746 18 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      This is what I am hoping. But when price comes out will be the final factor. If it is way more expensive for the charger than the rev I might go with the rev. If it can haul 250 miles on 90% of the battery.

  • @melvinholland9656
    @melvinholland9656 25 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

    For those who are enamored with the potential of the REV and Charger, understand Stellantis is having severe difficulty with EVs. Dodge Charger EVs are bricking at dealerships. More than half the EVs at the Windsor production facility (they only make 10-12 a day) won't charge. Wagoneer S has the same problem. Not true? Take a look at TK's Garage video today where he shares photos and texts from employees. But the REV and RAM Charger will be good to go in a few months?? These two gentlemen are selling the sizzle. The substance is a different story.

    It seems to me any ICE/EV hybrid long range vehicle can;to be sold for anything less than $100k. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but the complexity involved means not only does they have to price the cost of materials and development into the price, but also expected warranty claims. A big reason why modern ICE cars are so expensive is because the traditional carmakers are pricing the horrible warranty expenses involved.

    • @ROMRreviews
      @ROMRreviews  23 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      Because of battery size? Plug-in parallel hybrids are already everywhere on the market today, and far more complicated than the series hybrids in development.

    I own two EVs and Silverado V8. I would be very reluctant to purchase the RAM REV or RAM Charger. All legacy manufacturers have problems with EV software, hence the delay. They're obtaining the 500 miles on the REV by utilizing a massive 229 kWh battery pack. This will take close to an hour, if not more, to go from 10% to 80% at a DCFC. Low tech. On the RAM Charger... why? Complexity for very little benefit and yesterday's 400-volt architecture. Just stay with pure ICE and get over 500 miles. At least Scout (VW) had the good sense to use Rivian's software.

    • @ROMRreviews
      @ROMRreviews  26 วันที่ผ่านมา +3

      What do you mean by "very little benefit"? For whom? 80% of the buyers are putting down money for extended range hybrids, so they must feel there's substantial benefit to their use case

    • @melvinholland9656
      @melvinholland9656 26 วันที่ผ่านมา +4

      @@ROMRreviews To go from 500 miles to 690 is of little benefit. Most bladders can't handle more than 4 hours of sitting. You're going to stop long before you reach 690 miles. Drive an EV for a few years and you will know things like charging curve and software matter more.

    • @jlv3x
      @jlv3x 26 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @@melvinholland9656 people want the option of not having to stop and spend an hour charging your vehicle when you don't have the time. The majority of people want this PHEV option over a BEV and the public's response is clearly telling manufacturers that. During the week when people are mostly driving locally they can go full electric and when they want to take longer drives on the weekends they don't have to worry about finding EV charges or wanting in line for one. Plus it's one less concern during winter months when EV range is reduced to various levels depending on how cold it is where you live.

      @@jlv3xNo one spends 1 hour at a Supercharger, especially if the battery is preconditioned by choosing the Supercharger long before arriving there.
      20 minutes or so charging is it.
      How many 1,000 or 2,000 mile roads trips do people take every year? Few to none.
      Driving long distances is a waste of time, money, hotel costs, days off and wear and tear on a vehicle.
      Take a jet and get there in a few hours. Rent a vehicle at the destination.
      Gas vehicles require stopping at a gas station every week. That's many hours wasted every year.
      There's next to no maintenance on EVs.
      No oil changes.
      No catalytic converter theft or muffler damage.
      No transmission or fluid changes.

      @@dvader3263I can’t for the life of me understand why people act like people drive these long distances monthly or something! When I say long distance, I’m talking well over 800 miles or more in a single trip. Most people will get on a plane with those type distances. Even the one time a year you may drive that, you’re definitely stopping and taking a decent break!

  • @jainsw

    This seems like a lot of engineering for little gain. Essentially you’re talking about 25mpg with that 27 gallon tank and 690 miles. The only plus is there is no transmission but you have the charge cycle life of the batteries to consider, so it seems like a wash.

      @ on the Wagoneer we see a lot of issues with the 3 (or 4) touchscreens, they change settings repeatedly without pressing on the screen or they lock up all together. This affects the navigation, audio system and all of the HVAC settings. We also have a lot of issues with the rear hatch, sometimes it’ll pop open on its own and won’t shut no matter what you do and other times they won’t open at all. We also see a lot of issues with the seats, some of them have massage seats, which honestly rarely work properly, we have a lot of trouble with the massage seats. We’ve done repairs inside the seats, replaced modules and fixed bad connections. Everyone complains about the automatic high-beams and lane assist and night vision features as they rarely seem to work properly. On the Cherokee’s or Cherokee L‘s we see the same issues with the touchscreens, also a lot of them not starting or not shutting off because the RF antenna fails and it doesn’t see the keys. These also have a lot of issues with the heating and air conditioning, especially on the hybrids with the electric heaters. I’ve already had to pull the entire interior apart of two of them to replace AC evaporator cores that leaked. I’m not even considering the insane amount of recalls both of these vehicles have had since launch.
