Gary, you saved me so much time and cash with this video. Thank you! Just like you said, the valve that should be closed was open. I couldn't figure out why the softener wasn't softening the water. I got a quote for $350 to troubleshoot what was wrong. I'm so glad I saw your video before making the appointment. 5 year old Kenmore water softener not lowering PH level. It is a lightly used softener in that water hardness setting is only on 5, only 2 live in the house and we are home only 9 months of the year. I cleaned venturi and screen. Cleaned brine float and screen. Removed all the pieces and everything was very clean already, including the screens. The softener recharge works and did a manual recharge 3 times in the past two days anyway. This is on a well with very good water, almost no iron, and just a little acidic ~6.2 ph at the well head. I have a calcite system before the water softener and a 30 micron filter prior to the calcite tank. Only thing left is to take the valve control apart? I read about Iron Out but no rust any where or anytime in the house, in the 30 micron filter, and water test showed very little iron.

A water softener will not lower pH, only hardness and iron.

My kenmore softner do not have suction of brine during regeneration, however if I simply put the bypass valve on and off, the suction starts immediately and the regeneration is completed properly, but I do have to do this every time. There are no water leaks in the bypass valve. Any clues on why I do not have suction without opening and closing the bypass valve?

Hi Gary, first time water softener owner. We just bought a used house and found the brine tank was low on salt. I added too much salt to my Clack (WS1?) and caused a salt clog. I cleaned the unit of black, hardened salt as you suggested, but processed water is no longer being softened. I believe it is because the media is not being regenerated. The brine tank level does not decrease during regen. I disconnected the brine well hose near the bypass valves and put suction to it such that brine can flow. Likewise pressure on the hose creates bubbles in the brine tank. The brine water level is several inches below the brine float safety valve. Do you have any wisdom to pass on?

I have learned everything I know about water softeners from you. I noticed the flow in the house drop off to a trickle over the past several days when two or more fixtures are on. I have a Waterboss proplus 380. I have a problem. I put my softener into regeneration and it ran and ran. Step 2 is supposed to be a high flow function. Mine was slowly flowing. I run my softener discharge into a deep sink. I saw amber colored resin beads in the flow. Never saw that before. Is my softener done? It is in bypass mode now.

    • @water_estore

Yes, the media beads have started to break down likely from the chlorine if you are on a chlorinated municipal water supply.

I was looking around and I have 2 clack control panel tanks and I have confirmed one has a blank screen. I have confirmed the outlet is good and it is getting 12 volts from the transformer. Hi Gary: Great info..... Can you help me with my Water Depot 2000 series water softener. It is setup to regenerate based on number of gallons of water used. It has stopped doing this since the last regen. It does not count down any more. It just sits there showing the max gallon number. I can force it to generate manually, but for some reason it is not metering the flow of water coming in. Is there a clogged meter valve somewhere?

@@water_estore i got it working. I took the culligan 812 apart. Two o rings were bad.. parts inside encrusted eith sand/sediment. From prior owners and originsl owners not having house filters for the dirty well water.
New o rings.. cleaning. It now sucks the brine up. I decided to empty the brine tank though and wash it out outside. The last like 30 inchs of salt was hard as a rock.. and brown/yellow with sand in it. And the tank itself under the salt screen had mud and sand in it.
New salt.. Set the gears for the regen cycle and days etc.. and works. I deicded to set it to regen daily and to use 20 lbs of salt brine.. So maximum settings.. This way that resin gets cleaned and recharged good. Then ill probly regeb every other day and drop it to like 10 lbs.. took 4 days to clear the sediment from the softner resin tanm etc but its clear now.. and i have soft water.. i feel that slimey sensation with soap and water.
Surpsied the resin is still good after 25 years.. but i guess the thing did sit unplugged for like 12 years.
Anyway works great now. Will this softner help with the unxidized iron my sediment filters dont pick up ? Or do i still need some air infused iron filters to oxidize the iron
And fyi 8 months ago i did install 4 29 inch big blue house filters.. to stop that orange iron water and sand. So that softner wont be getting dirty again.
I just dont like where they installed the pressure tank.. didnt leave me room to install the filters before the preasure tank.. so that tank is still exposed to raw well water. Maybe i can do some 180 degree loops with the pex tubing and go well.. filters.. then pressure tank. Then softners etc
