A great record. Now I have seen the video I see they are trying to out-Cure The Cure in black and white. Was the licence cheaper? Is the reason the drummer (e.g.1:29) is not singing because he is a little hoarse? lol tolhurst
That's cool, I loved the sound and look of this band, as well as their songs and subject matter. Bands of that time like Pulp (a band that Menswe@r remind me of) and Rialto looked great, very... Mod-ish. Never saw them live, but still have this album that took me a while to track down.
I'm a britpop fan from barcelona and youtube is just giving m the opportunity to see videos that I missed in the 90's but still looking for a single video(and song of course) by band called Ruth song was St.Valentine's day...was in the same vein as Cast or Ash alike...cannot find it anywhere!!! probles is that they were a one-off single recorded band...anybody could help me?
I used to argue the toss with my girlfriends mate who insisted these tosspots were better than suede. Now I am older and wiser how can anyone have taken these guys seriously when you had the manics.
Certainly not my kind of music, but it's still eons better than most of the shit I hear these days. What are those things? Instruments? I remember them!
I remember being at high school and trying to champion this group as one of the top bands in the Britpop movement at the time. What the fuck was i thinking?!! They're shit!! Loads of folk think Oasis and Blur were best from then, but the top band of this time were, in my opinion, Pulp. Oasis may have had more commercial success, as perhaps Blur did, but in all departments of talent Pulp took a huge dump on both and Different Class was perhaps the best album of the time, perhaps even the decade
Right, I've got a new song for us lads. So it goes, D, then D, then D and then D. Uhm and then the chorus goes D, D and then D again and then we finish on a D. Thinks it's too tricky to play live? Well let's try it and see...
wow I havnt heard this since it came out!, hated it at the time. then over the years remembered it fondly. after listening to it now - I was right its shit!. but it very funny at the same time. very nostalgic. the 90's were nothing revolutionary b ut so much better than now for music.
Whats with all the Wire comments? If you know about Wire you should know about Cockney Rebel then see who copies who. Good track sounds good on the album.
I did a personality quiz on NME (which obscure Britpop band member are you) and ended with Johnny from Menswear. Could have been worse like Sleeper, Kula Shaker or Shed 7.
It may make me a "tosspot" but even years later i love this track and most of the others on the album. As for the manics they were poor live against supergrass, ask, elastica and especially pulp!!
I remember playing this song over and over ... those were the days :)Was still at school when this came out!
Been listening to this song for a decade but have never seen the video. Thankx. Miss 90s brit music lots!
Thanks for posting this. I didn't think anyone would have posted anything by Menswear!
Oh, britpop in the 90s . . . ah, those were the days.
О
This whole album is a keeper. Thanks.
I saw them in Edinburgh when I was 15!!!! Man, they rock....Johnny with his police light hat - *sigh* I was so in love.
I loved menswear and Shampoo, I have all the shampoo albums and I have got the menswear one as well...I miss them days
I'd forgotten how much this sounds exactly like a Wire B-side.
13 years later and I'm still in love with them!!!
Hi
A britpop anthem.
I think it was a great album, but so many great albums came out around that time by similarly great artists that I think this one got overshadowed.
I can definitely hear where Art Brut got their sound.
Actually, this is a huge ripoff of seminal post-punk band Wire. th-cam.com/video/BeoYEgPjRJM/w-d-xo.html
TUNE !! had the first album and loved it to bits
really?
I like to remind a mate of mine who, at the time, said that the Menswear album was the best album he had ever heard!
i love them and thx for posting..
Sweet meets Queen.Just a great song.
My first record.....odd choice for a 5 yr old really
I feel mysterious today
That's it! It was bugging me what this had ripped off.
+ from the nursery
I'd take this over what gets played on XFM these days !
you've gotta be kidding!! I've seen all these bands live and the Manics beat them all!!!
October '93, Cardiff Astoria, BEST GIG EVER!!
@wicks99 It was mentioned in magazine article about bands that had minor success and what they are doing now.
Yeah, I got into Shampoo when I was in Japan, because they were apparently huge there?! Such pop perfection is rarely seen, even in pop music.
A great record. Now I have seen the video I see they are trying to out-Cure The Cure in black and white. Was the licence cheaper?

Love it. Who cares about the Wire 'homage'. Its a great single of the time
i love this song ^^
I don't care of the circumstances on their fame, this is just a catchy song I can bop along too, and that is all i ask of when I want a good song.
britpop!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i bought this album
First time I heard this I thought, 'I don't remember this Wire song'.
Shaun W Keaveny relentless love of this band sent me.
Agree with Freakyfadge but I would rather hear the 4 Wire songs - Pink Flag is a Great Album
Sadly the only song i ever really liked by these.
Я вообще русская
I'm a britpop fan from barcelona and youtube is just giving m the opportunity to see videos that I missed in the 90's but still looking for a single video(and song of course) by band called Ruth song was St.Valentine's day...was in the same vein as Cast or Ash alike...cannot find it anywhere!!! probles is that they were a one-off single recorded band...anybody could help me?
A bit of Wire, yes.
Some of us do, just can't all get a hold of a copy after my last one crapped out. :(
great band they were!
Hello
Didn't they once say that although they were crap at music, they were the best dressed band? Is there a difference between this lot and Jedward?
Lost gem
I was expecting this band to sound like Blur or Pulp, instead they sound just like Wire during Chairs Missing era
Love it!
I used to argue the toss with my girlfriends mate who insisted these tosspots were better than suede. Now I am older and wiser how can anyone have taken these guys seriously when you had the manics.
DJ Evenstar mate the Manics are the most over rated band ever . Hopefully years on you have evolved musically .
Certainly not my kind of music, but it's still eons better than most of the shit I hear these days. What are those things? Instruments? I remember them!
A good word to describe a town in the Lake District is Ambleside
jesus i remember loving this song, and then getting the album for xmas and being sooooooooooo disapointed..
Thanks NME for nothing!
СПАСИБО НЕТДВДДЫ
these guys were friends with my brother =)
i remember them sleeping in my living room when i was about 10
haha!
x
Indeed sounding like a certain Elastica song...line up or maybe some else
@spartan2549 I can see what you mean...I can hear Wire in this song
Absolutely agree!

love it cant take any thing away from em but i apparently they were even better at showing AandR men to to crack cocaine party's
The only vinyl record I own :D
@AlexFruen I assume catchy, means horrendous where you live! LOL
@spangleJ Or Adam & The Ants meets Blur?
well said !!
I used to love this. Looking back.... Nah.
Right, I've got a new song for us lads. So it goes, D, then D, then D and then D.
Uhm and then the chorus goes D, D and then D again and then we finish on a D.
Thinks it's too tricky to play live? Well let's try it and see...
"when music was the important thing"(?) i'd hate to think it when it was inessential!
The guitarist now plays for The Parents!
do americans know of this band?
jarvis cocker meets the cure in 'never enough'
@KeaneQueen11981 I saw them on this tour ha!
Now working in Morleys menswear department.
BatteryPeople11 Very funny.
wow I havnt heard this since it came out!, hated it at the time. then over the years remembered it fondly. after listening to it now - I was right its shit!. but it very funny at the same time. very nostalgic. the 90's were nothing revolutionary b ut so much better than now for music.
Wait this sounds a little too much like wire...
The guy who turned it into heat magazine for music is gone now and they have a new editor. I think I might give them another chance.
Matt Everitt :D
I snogged a bloke for about 20 minutes while this played on repeat in a crappy bar in Leicester in 95ish.
I dont regret a thing...
@KeaneQueen11981 are you sure about that?
Whats with all the Wire comments? If you know about Wire you should know about Cockney Rebel then see who copies who. Good track sounds good on the album.
Ah the innocence of thinking Menswear were mod.
Thats THistle5's missus was in love, not him in particular - woops.
@bigderekkeene well said !!
Sounds a lot like PINK FLAG era Wire . . . hmmmm
I forgot about these, I'm here from the film "Kill Your Friends"
suede pulp and blur
I watched this at 4:33 wtf
@L1v3for3v3R I do hope that was sarcasm :P
I did a personality quiz on NME (which obscure Britpop band member are you) and ended with Johnny from Menswear. Could have been worse like Sleeper, Kula Shaker or Shed 7.
Nossa
They might have lasted longer if they learned to play more than one chord.
this is soo british
It may make me a "tosspot" but even years later i love this track and most of the others on the album. As for the manics they were poor live against supergrass, ask, elastica and especially pulp!!
@BeastlyRange No
I always liked this song but thought they were trying to hard to sound like the Undertones.
xfm baby.
Wire should have sued these guys as well
can you give me your channel youtube please
Total Wire rip off, but a good one.
This entire song is one chord
Why weren't they bigger...oh yeah...I bought the whole CD for this one song (remember that?) and it sucked...
wow apparently in the 90s people in Camden thought these guys weren't a load of shit, how naive.
still better than kaiser chiefs
I wanna be under the blankie too!!!
they had two great songs; this wasn't one of them.
They only had this one song, but it was a good'un. Terrible video though!
ANOTHER SONG FECKED BY ADVERTS
