as a newer fragrance enthusiast, I agree with this take! I find some of the older designers pretty dated bc of the patchouli (La Vie Est Belle, Si, Mon Paris) and have decluttered them all

Personally, I'm really tired of all those vanilla dominant perfumes flooding the market. I really don't want to smell like vanilla pudding. I'm yearning to smell something different and original... And yes, I do like some patchouli. 😊

I totally agree with your take on patchouli and gourmands! I don’t hate gourmands but I have to say I’m getting tired of them. And there are people who call anything that doesn’t smell like a sugary dessert “masculine.” It’s kinda ridiculous.
@Lee10d0 I agree. There's a huge distance between sweet and masculine that many fragrances cover. It's a spectrum, not two sides of one coin.

I have so many thoughts about the selections today. First, I wasn't a huge fan of Goddess or Libre so I have no interest in their flankers (I typically don't like Lavender). I tried that yellow Gucci one too and really liked it. Within that same trip to Sephora, I wanted to try Vanilla Bourbon but they didn't have it so I sniffed Golden Nectar and reeeally like it.
Regarding Vanilla Skin - I know you aren't a body spray type of gal, but I must say that I slightly prefer the body mist. It has a sexiness about it, while the EDP leans more woody.
Ok, sorry for the long comment. My friends aren't into fragrances so this is where I get to "talk" about this stuff.

I love Patchouli as long as it’s not too earthy or “dirty” smelling. I think it’s a sexy note that gives a fragrance a lot of depth and character. ❤ loved hearing your thoughts!

I think people forget that there are many different types of patchouli. I don’t like a dark, earthy patchouli, but have found that I enjoy most others. Patchouli adds a lasting power to a fragrance that can’t be beat! Stop the patchouli hate people! ❤😂

I confess I'm really interested in trying that new Maison Margiela one when it comes out. I haven't had my fill of vanillas yet 😃. But I have broken my own no-buy recently so I have to stop myself from buying any more. I went to the Sephora in Harlem and met Chris Collins and ended up buying two of his fragrances there. I also blind bought Zenobia from Tomavicci and OMG, this is gorgeous.
I purchased tickets for ScentXplore in December. Hoping I can hold out until then buy I doubt it...
I will buy at least a travel spray of the new Margiela, too, despite my ranting in this video 😆😆😆 I confess, the notes look great. Have fun at the event in December!
People have all kinds of different opinions about fragrance. I think when it’s something we like (or love) it’s sometimes hard to understand/process an unfavorable opinion. Especially when negative language is used. That is why I appreciate when reviewers don’t verbally bash perfumes. There is a way to say something is not for you (and review it) without being ultra negative and trashing it. I’m a long time sub of YOUR channel because you do that. You leave open the possibility that others might like something you don’t 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Hi Veronica! I have never liked patchouli. However, the more fragrance houses I sample, the more I appreciate it. I used to avoid ANY fragrance with a patchouli note, but I realized I was really limiting myself doing that. I've yet to find a patchouli dominant fragrance I love, but I have appreciated lovely, well blended patchouli fragrances on others, so I haven't lost hope.
Sherida has a video about her most expensive fragrances where she mentions her only patchouli fragrance love, so that gives me hope that I, too, will learn to appreciate it and find a fragrance I actually like.
@tanrdz yes, patchouli is used in so many fragrances, sometimes to add depth, character, or longevity. I appreciate that you're experimenting and trying out new fragrances. 🥰

I went to Sephora inside Kohl's yesterday and smelled several new releases. I absolutely loved Burberry Goddess Intense, to me it smells like a softer less woody version of Atelier Lune Feline. I bet all these people hating on it now, will be loving it once Fall/Winter get here. My other favorite was the new Gucci one. Didn't care too much about the new Libre one and they didn't have Nest Vanilla Bourbon, will have to get my nose on that one.

Patchouli helps the fragrances to last longer. I’m wearing Carolina Herrera blush elixir today, it has patchouli and I’m enjoying it and get a lot of compliments. It is a lit bit masculine leaning and maybe is the reason that many people dislike it, especially if they are gourmand lovers.😊

I don’t know why people hate Burberry goddess intense so much! I got it as a gift from my boyfriend. Now, I have a big perfume collection and I get a compliment every now and then.
On the day that I wore this though which happened to be the day I received it, I got 3 compliments in the span of an hour. I also went to a restobar and I waited in line for the bathroom and some girls were saying “it smells so good!”. I just kept quiet knowing dam well it was me lol.

Patchouli literally can turn my stomach to the point of nausea depending on how it’s done. Now the weird thing is I don’t get much at all in Burberry Goddess but a lot of people keep mentioning it.

Phlur’s best performing and intoxicating fragrance is Father Figure. I am on bottle #3 this year. I also love Q Intense. I got it two weeks ago and love how pretty it makes me feel wearing it.

I love the super foodie Bianco Latte vanilla gourmands but I find the vanilla base flor-mands more versatile (Goddess, Black Opium Le Parfum etc.) and to me they are all different.

My old boss told me a trick to self tanning. She said first you gotta apply regular lotion to the dry areas like elbows and knees so they don’t absorb the most and become too dark. 😅😮😊

When I started my fragrance journey I hated patchouli. Now I’ve started to appreciate it in some of my fragrances. Kayali Vanilla Sugared Patchouli is a favorite for me.

Love this video!! I sprayed Burberry Goddess Intense on me and my initial thought was that it smelled just like a scented lavender Glade trash bag. BUT it tamed a bit and got cozier. Seems more like a fall/winter scent to me.

Great vid. I miss real patchouli. Like old skool patchouli oil like back in the day. I want that back with some sweetness. It’s now very clean and almost a shadow of itself. I haven’t smelt BG or BGI as it sounded only ok. No hate just no curiousity as yet. I’m one of the odd people who isn’t a fan of lemon vanillas. I like my lemon astringent as heck. Like you’ve just squeezed that baby. I don’t get that from fragrance it smells weird and chemically. I do like gourmand touches where it’s appropriate (an Amber or a vanilla or some lush tropical fruity florals at times) but I’m also over the mega gourmand and orange blossom (gack!) overload. (Soapbox stowed).

Hi! I can not rezist to tell you my impresion about Godess Intense: to me it is identical with Olympea intense, a very nice, thick balsamic vanilla. Nobody in the comments or on Fragrantica felt like this, so, every nose is different😊

I felt the same way about Burberry Goddess Intense! I saw all the hate online and I was very confused when I smelled it in-stores because I instantly fell in love with it. I ended up picking up a bottle right then and there. I don't understand the hate on patchouli either.

Gucci Flora is the vanilla I like more than gourmand. It'ws actually smell very similar- to my nose- to Chloe Vanilla Planifolia; which I own and that is why I did not buy the Gucci yet.

I didn’t like Burberry goddess OG but I was surprised with the intense version. It seems that I like it but it reminds me of smth ….may be YSL libre intense …I smelled smth similar but can’t put my finger on it…

I’m feeling the same about most vanilla new releases, especially when there are already a bunch of outstanding ones, but I was impressed with Thé Vanille, from Nette as worthy of its praise and a meditative vanilla. I also discovered Tom Ford’s Metallique (discontinued but still easily available) as a lovely aldehydic, floral vanilla. I love how you keep it real with your impressions and comparisons. I’m trusting your judgement on these!

I adore good patchouli ❤ The note anchors so many great fragrances. I love my decant of Burberry Goddess Intense. I also love vanilla fragrances: Liquide Gold, Babycat and a few others. A nod to gourmand is nice, but I don't want to smell like a dessert. Green vanilla fragrances are wonderful and in my opinion, are underrated. Angelique Noir is a masterpiece ❤

@Furriner yes the packaging changed a lot. But in some Caribbean islands, it sold in that old packaging for a loooooong time. Maybe the overstock or something? Not sure.

I was just in Sephora and tried the new Nest and Gucci fragrances. They both smelled lovely, and I wouldn’t be mad if someone gifted them to me, but they didn’t wow me enough to actually purchase. I actually got a little sad in store because it all felt a little boring. I love vanilla, but maybe we’ve just got too much of a good thing now. 🤷♀️
As for patchouli, I don’t mind it, and I appreciate the depth and longevity it can add to fragrances. My husband is a hater, but that’s mainly because he associates it with the “dirty hippie” version from our college days. Now when we’re testing fragrances & I read the notes, I won’t mention if there is patchouli in it until he gives his opinion. If he likes a frag with patchouli it’s a fun gotcha moment. 😂 He’s slowly coming around and changing his viewpoint on patchouli.
I often get overwhelmed by too many scents when I try in store and decide they are all boring. 🤷🏻♀️ I have to sample at home now to really understand a fragrance. Your strategy of not sharing the notes before your husband tries a fragrance is probably a good one! Preconceived notions can really interfere with our first impressions. 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Vanilla Bourbon was nice i think it's best suited for Fall/Winter.

I love vanilla it comes out good on my skin, i always have to watch out with some perfumes they turn sour on my skin, because of the medication i take, im a diabeti, insuline is one of them, love your reviews greetings from the Netherlands

I'm not a fan of patchouli but when I enjoy a scent with a good dose of it I'm excited 🎉lol because it's something different for me.

I think of perfume like wine- some newbies havent developed a taste for certain notes/accords. younger folks are raised on sugar sweet generic notes. they havent had a chance to partake of some of the older compositions in more complex classic perfumes. Patchouli is one of my favorite notes and Molinard Patchouli Intense is my newest gem. Its just perfect for me. BTW- on Reddit I saw quite a few patchouli lovers sharing their fragrances so there are fans out there.

I literally just watched a short from a frag reviewer that described Fugazzi Angel Dust as one of the best musks. Raving that if you love musks you need to check it out. I didn’t look it up but she didn’t even mention vanilla or sandalwood so my mind was somewhere totally different than what you referenced. Curiosity piqued!
Angel Dust is a fun little number! It is musky but a soft sheer Musk alongside woody notes, and pepper.
Burberry Goddess Intense, haven't smelled it yet, but I own Dappers version of the original and I love it.
But I will try the intense in store

Hi Veronica I love Floral and Jasmine and Tuberose, Musk-Vanilla it’s ok, love Coconut because I can Smell it on me it’s long lasting on me 8-8-2024., My Neighbor always tell me I Smell Delectable I gave her two bottles of perfume yesterday and I told her the next time she has to pay for it she’s always getting samples from me and think it’s free. I had a box by the door that had samples and two travel size fragrance in it, and she saw it so I gave her the samples., Crazy Right money out the door., keep it coming I love fragrances & you make me Smile 😊. I like Patchouli

You know? Not everybody liked Paloma Picasso. But you didn’t see anybody else trying to duplicate it. People weren’t trying to make another version of stuff that was already popular. You didn’t see everybody trying to copy Chanel number five though there were a few other aldehydic fragrances for sure they were not copies of Chanel number five They were trying to be original.

First of all, I really respect your opinions on fragrances and was looking forward to hearing your opinions on the ones listed on the title of this video. But I have to admit, I agree with the haters on Goddess Intense and Gorgeous Orchid. Goddess Intense made me cough and made my nose run. And unfortunately, Gorgeous Orchid smelled disappointingly flat on me. I didn't like the peppery note in the opening of Phur's Vanilla Skin on me either. I have been searching for a nice vanilla perfume that's not too cloyingly sweet (like Devotion, IMO). I ended up buying two vanilla oil perfumes, which I love: Nest's Madagascar Vanilla and Sand & Fog's Vanilla Musk. Both are great on me, wonderful for layering, and last well. I recommend them both.

I like the patchouli in the intense but I thought there was too much lavender. The dry down was nice, but I think I might return 😅 I ran out of the OG and purchased this one instead. However, I prefer the simplicity of the OG. Hopefully they come out with an elixir next!

Ok hear me out… but have you tried ormande Jayne Vanille des afriques? It’s more unique vanilla that isn’t your typical vanilla extract or foodies, gourmand vanilla or just a vanilla bean and musk vanilla. It’s really pretty and I have fallen in love with it pretty hard!
