    The soundtrack could use some equalizing.

    One qsnn sir
    Why maxx problemm constraints sign is less or equal to

    • @PUAARAcademy
      @PUAARAcademy  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Whenever the constraints are about limited resources, they will have less than or equal to sign. In simple words it means that we can use the quantity of the limiting factor "less than or equal to" its maximum possible available quantity at present. In such cases the RHS of the inequalities represent the maximum possible available/limited quantity of resources... :)

    Can you please help me, sir?
    Is it possible to take the dual of a primal if the objective function of the primal has more columns than the biggest constraint? What I mean is, is it possible to take the dual of, for example, this problem:
    min z = 2x1 + x2 + 4x3
    x1 + 3x2 >=5 ?
    Is it possible to take the dual of this primal below in which the objective function has more columns(coeficients) than the biggest constraint(the objective function has more columns than the constraint with more columns)? In the problem below, the decision variables are ti and si.
    min: 100 t0 - 100 s0 + 300 t1 - 300 s1 + 500 t2 - 500 s2 + 100 t3 -100 s3 + 400 t4 -400 s4 + 800 t5 - 800 s5 + 0 t7 - 0 s7 + 100 t8 - 100 s8 + 0 t9 - 0 s9 + 500 t10 - 500 s10 + 300 t11 - 300 s11 - 0 tf;
    -tf >= -21;
    t1-s0 >= 4;
    t2-s1 >= 6;
    t3-s2 >= 7;
    t0 >= 0 ;
    t4-s0 >= 4;
    t2-s4 >= 9;
    t3-s5 >= 4;
    tf-s3 >= 2;
    t5-s4 >= 9 ;
    tf-s5 >= 4;
    t7 >= 0 ;
    t4-s7 >= 6 ;
    t5-s8 >= 4;
    tf-s9 >= 2;
    t10 >= 0;
    t8-s7 >= 6;
    t9-s8 >= 4;
    t8-s10 >= 8;
    t9-s11 >= 7;
    t11-s10 >= 8;
    -t0 +s0 >=-1;
    -t1+s1 >= -2;
    -t2+s2 >= -4;
    -t3+s3 >= -1;
    -t4+s4 >= -3;
    -t5+s5 >= -1;
    -t7+s7 >= 0;
    -t8+s8 >= -1;
    -t9+s9 >= 0;
    -t10+s10 >=-1;
    -t11+s11 >=-2;
    Thank you anyway.

      All the constraints have all the variables, always. But, the variables which have '0' as the coefficient are not generally written as part of the constraints.
      If now also you find it difficult to understand the thing, to understand this point you just write all the constraints having all the variable in them and take '0' as the coefficient in case of all the variables which are not part of various constraints in the above presentation of the problem by you. As a result you would find all the constraints having the same number of variables as the objective function has...

      @PUAARAcademy  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, of course... But, when we need to write answers to the questions in any examinations, we have to follow the method(s) either asked by the paper setter or according to the syllabus. And, still, SOB method is not there in the syllabuses of most of the courses and not even discussed in most of the reference books. And it is important to study this classical method before learning about the SOB... :)
