- Welcome to Crystal Reef County, Florida! Today we build a massive expansion to the west of Downtown San Leon with inspiration from my recent Cities Skylines 2 builds - zoning is IN but we're using a special trick to ensure that the final result looks good!
We also build a big avenue lined with shops, boutiques, and restaurants as well as a few condo towers!

- What's the rationale behind this project:
With Cities Skylines 2 coming sometime this year, the time feels right for an attempt at an all-Vanilla Assets build - this is something I have been contemplating for a bit and hinted at earlier.

I would LOVE to hear if you're using any ZONING tricks or techniques to achieve great looking grown-areas in Cities Skylines 1! Let us know through a comment if you want
LIKING goes a long way, so thank you in advance if you would be so kind!
... Oh, and btw - More Cities Skylines content coming up on the 27th of September, right here on the channel
Much love,
Infrastructurist
I can’t wait for Cities Skylines: 2
Me neither!
i'm almost more excited to see what everyone builds and how the game gets modded than I am for playing it 😂
I still can't believe how much of an improvement the roads are. They took all the best CS1 mods and put them in the game.
It's really the upgrade that sits the most with me as I switch from Cities Skylines 2 to Cities Skylines 1 - whole different ballgame! 🚙
Took the mods and made it worse

You deserve all the spotlight and the praise. ❤ Thank you for the awesome videos!
And thank you for the very kind comment! 😍
I just wanted to say that you deserve the spotlight. Your videos are amazing, your cities are amazing, and you are amongst the best cities skylines youtubers I've ever seen. I’m so happy for you ❤
Thank you for the very kind compliment Nicolas ☺
"I'm Hudson, the creator behind Skyline Chronicles, and I've been thoroughly enjoying your Cities: Skylines content. Your cities are a testament to your dedication and creativity, and it's clear that you're deeply passionate about the game. Your storytelling skills add depth to your videos, making them both entertaining and informative. As a fellow Cities: Skylines enthusiast, I'm excited to see how your cities evolve and to continue learning from your expertise."
You should totally build a Chinatown near the downtown with all the Japanese/Chinese assets and unique buildings!
I came from your CS2 video and subscribed for the long in-depth commentary :3 Can't wait to see your video on it when it officially comes out
That is awesome Jugernaut - you are VERY welcome to my channel! ☺😍
I saw this video before any of the build ones and I'm absolutely blown away by how stunning and "realistic" this all looks. Great job!
Thank a lot JankyGamer! ☺
It turned out to be a Really cool area)) it was so funny watch all these people walk all the way from the station to their homes😅 And for CS2 video, it os more than well deserved! Thanks a lot and enjoy the rest of the week!
I hope there will be a feature/mod in CS2 where people will use the beach for swimming etc.
This texture from your city looks fire 🔥🔥
Congrats on your CS2 video! I really enjoy your content (CS1 & CS2) 😊
Thank you so much alina!! ☺
really happy for you man, you deserve the views
Thank you so much - much appreciated ♥
As someone who lives in Florida this series has been amazing. Love your stuff!
I'm glad I'm not the only one who wants to fill every available space with trees.
Hooray, I’ve been looking forward to the next episode of Crystal Reef 😍
Your Cities: Skylines gameplay is really great. Keep it up!
Dude, you're really blowing up :D
It's amazing to see how you're growing.
(btw, can't wait to see "functional" commuter rail in this map :p )
I’m new to your channel and my jaw dropped when you said your city was vanilla only 🤯
Well - lot's of mods! But no custom assets, trees, decals or props ☺☺☺
Still quite amazing 😮
you deserve all the attention you're getting. you've made some of my favorite CS cities :)
Thank you so much! ☺
I love your style of building
Was waiting on a new vid from you! Great stuff!
One thing that may make this look more realistic would be removing the crosswalk decals in your interior suburban roads, typically in the US only more "major" intersections are going to have proper crosswalks. Loving your style tho man this city looks dope.
0:58 wow, i was genuinely in doubt whether this was a real life shot or from a computer game. Nice job!
Beautiful work!
Thank you so much 😀
Awesome video, keep up the good work 🎉
Graphics are mind blowing
I love watching your cities videos and I have for a long time! Great content.
Very glad to hear that - thank you! ☺
Don't be sorry for being emotional about a success. Great video. Keep them coming 😊
If cities 1 modded looks this good I can't imagine what CS2 with mods will look in the future!
Please don't worry about the stuttering, it's not as bad ad you think.. and, it tells us you're that worked up about it and you appreciate it that much!
I do hope Cities Skylines 2 have "Move It" Mod build in or in workshop after launch.
Hi infra in 9:24 you can go to node controller settings and allow the "stretch" function to appear without having to click the drop down arrow every time
Commenting to bump this comment 😊
I can't get over how much you sound like an older DutchSims4Master.
While I really cant wait anymore for CS2 to finally release - like god damn it hurts! - I really like this series (or all of your series for that matter) :)
WOW! I'm truly impressed. I've always loathed how ugly vanilla assets make my city look but now i've realised i'm just not talented enough to work with vanilla assets and still create a realistic city 😂. Good Job!
Thank you nate! ☺
Hey! I love your videos, as always!
I wanted to let you know, as a french speaking guy, the "L" in "cul-de-sac" is silent.
But dont worry, everyone does the same mistake.
I have a tasty watercooled 3090 with the graphics up as high as they'll go and I cannot get my game looking anywhere near as good as yours. A TH-cam video dedicated to your graphics settings would be awesome, if you have the time. From the road textures to themes, LUTs, and any other tweaks with mods. Love the content, another great video as always
Yo, i am REALLY looking forward to cs2 BUUUT, also avout ur 2nd vid of it!! So my question is when is the next cs2 video? Im liek reaaly lookinf forward to it!!!
Damn I wish you were continuing this one. It's so good.
Nice video!
Thanks a lot - glad you enjoyed it!
beautiful work... esp with just vanilla assets!
Guess you could say that Cities Skylines 2 is changing your City's Skyline's.....
*sunglasses on* 😎
Ouu it’s Wonderful
I really hope City Skylines 2 will either come with easy modding for road linework customization, or expansion packs for different regions. Neither of the basegame themes fit Japan, and the number of Japan mods for City Skylines 1 was massive, yet like you said the road linework tools are just clumsy and require a lot of work and the simulation playability of it when you're growing a city is very low because every minor edit to roads requires lots of redesigns of the linework.
I would be so happy for you if the succes of the cs2 video sticks to your channel in the future❤
Your adding so many oak trees to that residential neighborhood makes me want to call the area Oakland or Oak Park.
Great suggestion edward! So do you reckon it's this entire area we should name Oakland or Oak Park - or a specific section? ☺
Oak trees are my life btw
@@Infrastructurist You could put it up to a vote, but I prefer Oakland because it's so big compared to downtown. 🙂
@@Infrastructurist Thanks! ☺️
Just preordered can’t wait to add another 1,958 hours to the game
I love paris
.. Alrighty :D Never been there myself!
This is vanilla in CS2? No way!!!
I can't wait to play CS2, but I also hope modding happens really quickly! While the base of CS2 looks soo much better than CS base, modded CS is still way better looking than CS2.
There are so many beautiful plants, objects and many other things that are also great. I'm really amazed and really like the library of objects in your Cities Skylines software. Please guide me, how can my Cities Skylines software get them? Sincerely thank you very much.
well deserved aknowledgement of your skills! gonna be bragging i was here before the masses :P
Hahaha - thank you dalton - I really appreciate that. Really been overwhelming :-)
New Subscriber here, saw your CS2 video.
Awesome Matthew, you are VERY welcome!! ☺
Do you have any advance knowledge is it better to preorder or buy it at release
Loving your CS2 videos. I was confused in this one regarding placing individual buildings. Is this a new feature in CS2 or are you playing in some sort of 'creative mode'?
This is CS1 😊
@@brandybucked Oops. Never mind then.
My favorite channel!
What district themes mod variant are you using? I looked through your modlist and couldn't find a "district themes", "district styles", "building themes", etc type mod
It’s called District Styles Plus 😊
Wonder how the runtime fee Unity is attempting to implement could affect the game moving forward.
Any suggestions for required config for cities 2.
Like the series but just hate vanilla assets haha, wish you would make a few exceptions on props and bushes or something... Great though :) Please keep Coniferia going (if I spelt it right!) :)
Whats the point playing CS2 when CS1 looks this much better.
My newest subscription
love you content
question: are they planning on removing those white lines from the roads in cs2, i think it is ruining cs2 for me
When is the next episode releasing?
The shaded area behind the building is pitch black, making it difficult to see the shaded area. Is there a mode that makes objects visible even in shaded areas like your city?, The back of the building in the shadows is too dark to see well. It's very uncomfortable because it only shows black.
what mod do you use at @2:05 ? please i needed it
Hi HarD! It's called "Network Skins" steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1758376843
Do you use a mods to build a city?
what mods do you use to fix the UI ?
Hi Gabriel! All mods are available through the description of the video ☺
how do install mods in your description?
Do you think cs 1 will still be relevant after the release of cs2?
Hi! That is a VERY interesting question - and I guess time will tell. As I mention in the video, it will likely take a while for CS2 to eclipse a highly-modded version of CS1 as far as aesthetics go - so we will see!
is this series over?
Graphically, I've not been impressed with CS2 footage- it does not yet seem to represent a step up when comparing against modded CS1, which I feel is a shame.
When is the next CS2 video? You have to take permission from Paradox?
🤩🤩🤩✴✴
Judging by the clips you've made, featuring CS2, it's plain to see they have taken the base game and refined it considerably. It's like when they released The Sims 2. TS was a fun and popular game. So, the devs took all that was fun about TS and improved the game in countless ways. However, despite the game looking different, it still "felt" like TS.
If you ask me, a new version of a game must do one thing, above all else. Evolve. The game can't stay the same, or else it stagnates. Evolution is not about staying the same, in the same place, doing the same things. Ask Darwin. 🤣
Mind you, there will always be elements that you'll always be happy to do again. Us fussy gamers want our cake and to eat it. We want CS2 to be the same, without change, but instead with improvements or innovations.
When they released TS4, I saw through the hype. The devs ruined that game by taking away so much, and giving very little in return. Sure, it was wrapped in bright colours, with bows on top, but inside, the game was hollow. Eliminating the colour wheel was a step backwards. I could lists dozens of ways they dumbed the game down. For a creative type, like myself, it was sad to see it reduced to fluff.
It was a new feature they kept going on about that told me just how braindead it had become. The new WOW feature was how you edited your sim when creating a new one. Before, you had slider bars. But, they eliminated the caveman slider bars. Now, WE HAVE HANDS to edit the sim. Little hands to mould the sim of your dreams. That's supposed to impress me? How is it innovative to replace slider bars with hands? They both do the same damn thing!
I love your clips. Thanks for making quality! Best of all, no ego babble in your clips! That's always a bonus in my eyes. Looking forward to the release of CS2. As well as, what you have in store for us. Happy gaming!
EDIT: BTW, I noticed something we have in common. When you place a multiple of the same item, like a tree. You rotate it each time before placing it. I do exactly the same. There's nothing that ruins the look more than placing multiples the same way. Rotating takes away that cloned look.
