I looove reflecting and looking at the stats!! Congrats on reading your top 10 of the year, that could never be me 🤣 I hope you give Dandelion another shot someday, that character connection really comes in in book 2 and it's exceptional character work from there on out. And yay for having such a high average rating, I love it when you finally find out what your niche is 🤩 Some interesting things I kept track of was that 48,3% of my 300 reads were indie/selfpub, I read 129 2023 releases, 136 books were written by new-to-me authors, my average rating was a 4.05 stars, I did 27 re-reads, I finished 15 series, and I started 80 new series.... oops 🤣🥲
I've heard the character work really takes off in the second book, the first one is just a lot to get through first... but i might give it another chance! That is an impressive average rating, especially with such a high volume of books and new to you authors! I always find the more books I read the lower my average rating is. Sounds like you had a great reading year!
@@badgerreads Yeah I am normally really not the type of person to say 'just push through the first book', especially when it's such a dense one, but for Dandelion I 100% believe it is worth it. And I guess all my gambles just paid off really well last year, hahah. I hope to slow down this year though, I want to find more balance in my life between reading, life, and other hobbies!
A great reading year! Congrats! And well done for getting to all of your top 10 tbr. I also read Grace of Kings this year, which I had super high hopes for, but I found it a bit of a struggle to get through. For me, I really need to ge invested in the characters and this book was so much more about plot and politics. I did push through as I've heard that the next book and the rest of the series are much more character focused. So we will see what happens....but I can really understand the dnf.
That was my issue as well. I might give it another shot at some point, I have also heard the second book is better. I hope the second one works better for you!
so impressed about your yearly tbr!
