"Not because you want to make a lot of money, but because you think you have something to say" spoken like a true legend, unfortunately, thats rarely the case these days
I have heard quite a few popular songs from the past five years that are pretty good. Most of it is not appealing to an old soul, but there is some ok pop music being made today
Nowadays you can put yourself out there on social media too, which wasn’t an option then. People like Charlie Puth and Alessia Cara (both phenomenal younger musicians) found their fame by sharing covers and original material in places like TH-cam or even TikTok, which is today’s equivalent of making a demo tape. If you have the talent and you grind at it, you WILL eventually get noticed. There are so many cookie-cutter performers out there, and the key is to put something authentic out there and keep honing your craft. That’s what Billy did, and that’s something that is tried and true, no matter what the trends or the technology may be.

That’s what I call getting your money’s worth on an answer to a question. That was complete.
I always liked Steve Martin's advice to people trying to break in to show biz: Be so good they can't ignore you.
It's not too difficult to write music that is more original than music played in the radio nowadays… :/

@@454aubrey you can’t just say that and not give any examples.
Someone should make a Billy Joel cover band called the purple carrots
Ian Cole, yes they should 😂
Cool, I'm in!
Gosh! Those that turned Billy down were kicking themselves later!!
Times have really changed a lot since this video, to say the least.
2:38 - He's so Jewish and New York; I love it!😂❤️
3:27 Make up your mind, Billy!!
Everything about him is perfect
Except his alcoholism
@@weathermansam2 he doesn’t drink as much now as he used to
His lyrics are mediocre.
This is awesome!
The voice is the key...distinctive enough....
Very handsome personality. 🙏🌹
Luck is everything....timing...and meeting the right exec..who gets your sound..
He’s so handsome oh my god

They’re not so popular anymore, thank God.

me too it was awesome :)
He had great hair
Hope he enjoyed it while he had it.
Hes talking about cassette tape.
Before CDs...thats what you shopped around
The music business is all about the singers....if a band doesnt have a great distinctive lead..you wont go far ..
A question from a good wife
What is a tape please? Like sellotape?
You joking?
Cassette tape, it was the format before cd
