Finally a producer how uses Cubase with a lot of knowledge and is entertaining at the same time (rare combo to find). Love your videos man, keep up the good work :)
This episode was great Dom! Sometimes you just need a reminder that what comes in your DAW is very much usable and possibly easier to get a great result quicker because of how it's laid out! Also Cubase has high quality processing out of the gate :0
Hello Dom, that was a great video, thank you. Regarding 5:27 I would say it would be worth mentioning that, although the PRE section (pre gain+polarity+filters) lays together with the eq, it acts always before everything in the chain, independently if you put your channel strip before or after inserts. PRE section is always before everything. I had before this confusion and manual is not clear hear. Master Chris helped me to understand this a couple of years ago.
they should do that, who are don't recognize it, they are beautiful. because of third party companies have to build up in the vst protocols. its like symbiosis grown up deal;) but shure, you dont need too much 3rd party plugins, if you use correctly to cubase own plugins
I tried to start using the Cubase Channel Strip years ago when it first came out, but never really got used to it and kept on building my own chains on inserts. I'm now persuaded to give it another go. Thanks for another great Cubase video.
I just absolutely love the native plugins available in cubases channel strip. I just completely believe that using these adds ultra stability to the platform. Nothing is more stable than native plugs and they are so good!
This is totally timely Dom! As my computer is getting older I have been using more of the Cubase Plugins to save on CPU, especially in the tracking phase. I should have been using the channel strip more the whole time, it really is underrated. Great video man!
Dom!! You're completely awesome! I didn't plan to listen to all of this, but I did, and am so very gratified! I've been using Cubase since the very early days (even before VST) and back then Steinberg released a version with a channel EQ that was a horribly wrong algorithm. For compatibility, they subsequently corrected the error by adding a "High Quality EQ" button to the user interface, to switch to an actually decent EQ algorithm. I tested both of these extensively, but have been cautious about Steinberg's channel strip ever since-which is why I became such a Waves snob. But now, Cubase features so many great plugins, plus a great channel strip that I've finally been able to shake off my prejudice and use them all. As a late adopter, I really appreciate this video, and also your embrace of subtle tweaks that improve the sound of a mix. A big thank you! Plus, your clear and concise presentation, along with your cheerful enjoyment of the process is truly an inspiration!
I don’t really comment that often on TH-cam videos but your videos are just 💯👌🏽. It’s already nice to watch, for fun. But then also really nice regarding the containing information. It makes it a pleasure! Keep it up man!✌🏽
Steinberg made a wise choice making this so comprehensive. Many mixers have no need to go searching for ‘extensions’ while in a DAW. The fact any installation of the same version will have all these capabilities built in is a wonderful feature for those who travel. The side-chain capability of the gate makes for a great noise reduction feature for guitars, placed last but triggered by the unamplified guitar. The range chosen for the Hold control of the ‘standard’ compressor is just begging for an update. My Hold values are typically 50-200ms, all of which are at the first 2% of the knob rotation. I’m sure that’s just an error. The sound of the tube compressor is pure gold.
A really down-to-earth explanation for each segment. I use the strip before plug-ins because it helps you shape each track sound on the fly and centralizes the control in a convenient location. Thanks for your time and presentation, Dom.
I started using Channel Strip after I reviewed Harrison Mixbuss for a magazine and realised how slick the "restricted" workflow model can be. Good vid, and I love how you bop along to the music -
Great video! I am educating myself on Cubase, and I chose it mostly because you have such a motherload of tutorials about it, and they are made so well, that I know I will be able to get through all the rough waters of starting music production! There are lots of tutorials on other DAWs too, but many are just so bad or depressing (or the music they use for examples hurts my ears!! 🤣) that having your channel for information is worth a lot.
i use it now since 2017 which is 5 years and i still learn all the functions and shortcuts but also the Mastering level of production techniques. i buy second hand mastering books of engineering and even Cubase fundemental books to learn along my work as i still produce and record. Awesome DAW😊😃
Sir you are dope!...i am big fan from india❤️...i love the way you always teach us ...i am using nuendo 11...becoz i was using nuendo 7 earlier but cubase n nuendo are same though!!
Superb video Dom, thank you! What we need Is to be able to drop in 3rd party plugin's in the strip and external hardware inserts, not just the stock Steinberg ones.
thanks big bro!!!! this was incredibly helpful and broken down clearly!!! even though i've watched many tutorials you've done, i still learned something new today!!! rock on!!! thanks so much!!! peace!!!😁
You are a wealth of information Dom! I watch your videos to understand how things really work. Just recently started using channel strip and love the way my mixes sound after applying a slight amount of plug ins later and now I will dive into this frequency 2 as you have examples in other videos of how well it makes things shine! Cubase Pro 12_UR824_MSi gs 76 STEALTh! Keep Rockin! Thanx Again Dom!
Hi Dom, thanks for a great video!!!!! I have/had never used the channel strip before , but since watching this video yesterday, i decided to give it a go on my latest project ( an orchestral hybrid type piece!) to see how i would get on? Well, i can honestly say that, i have never mixed one of my pieces so quick!!!! It was like night and day to how my mixes have been before!!! I have not used all what is in the channel strip, i have used the EQ, COMPRESSOR and SATURATION segments of the strip and my mix is sound better than ever!!!! I really feel like i have crossed a bridge into a new world!!!! I am really happy with what i have achieved with the channel strip and will use it from now, even though i have many 3rd party plugins at my disposal!!!!! And it is all down to YOU DOM!!!!!!!!! Thanks for sharing this video Dom, it has opened my eyes and really helped me!!!!!!!!!!!!! Dom, you're the best!!!!!
This is a fantastic video! I have been using the Channel Strip utilities for years, but you just changed my whole methodologies going forward. I now better know how to PROPERLY use these utilities for a better sound. Thank you.
Thank you Dom for explaining. I'm new to Cubase Pro 11 as an older LE4 user but your video's really help me out. I will view all I can 😉 Thanks again. Greetings from The Netherlands.
Im using the Strip when doing final mixing and adding vocals in Cubase, afte Producing in Bitwig...looping the Mix through my analog gear and then adding acustica audio on the stereo out inserts....but the Strip....makes final mixing and vocals...super super fast, you can really get to that final sound on each bus....so much easier than pulling up all these different plugins..especially in the final mastering stages, thats the value I see in the Strip......after youve colored your whole mix with your prefered 3rd party plugins/and or/tracking each bus through analog
Dom, Thanks for the detailed explanation of each and every CS piece of gear and telling us your preferences on how you like to tweak the knobs. Excellent!
I have mostly used the channel strip eq as it works just as well as the plugins. The presets are handy at times and I like the drum eq preset which really makes the drums stand out. I often eq every instrument using the Channel eq and then do an final mix down eq on the output channel.
Thank you Dom! I found out that this is something I really need now :) I used Channel Strip before just forgot how powerful it is. Thank you for reminding!
Thank you Dom for the in-depth video. I almost exclusively use the Slate VMR in my mixing template, but now if I need to add a de-esser, the envelope shaper or maybe a second compressor, I will start reaching for the channel strip modules. Although I wish Steinberg would redesign the channel strip inside the mixing console. It would be amazing if we can have at least three or four modules visible on every channel at all times, because with the current GUI, it's impossible to use in the mixer without scrolling up and down and back and forth. Also some colors on these knobs like it used to be in older versions would be nice.
Funny how i was actually thinking of buying a saturation plugin this week, and forgot that I already have a really good one built it my DAW^^ Thank you Dom!❤
Dom your video has made me realize Cubase is the choice for all Music Production. I will use this Channel Strip concept on Pre-Fader and use Waves Rack on Bus or Master in all my mixes. You have opened possibilities for me. I have a request of you? In your CC121 video about 2 months ago I left you this message: ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Sorry I am late to comment on your posting? I just seen this today. I like the CC121 but a few years ago I bought 2 Steinberg CMC Controllers. Before I had the chance to buy the remaining ones, 6 in total, they were discontinued? So when I seen the CC121 I was alarmed especially the price. Why did Steinberg drop these mini USB Controllers? The CMC-AI works like the CC121 right side knob. Help I don't use them because I feel I was cheated out of the full package. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Do you know where I can get the rest of these Controllers to complete my setup? I like the modular package they come in? Is there something lacking in these modulars versus the CC121?
OK. You talked me into it. It could be very handy to use the presets that include the entire chain in a certain order with certain settings. You aren't going to be doing that with a bunch of individually inserted plugins. Also, I'd like to see the pre-built chains that Cubase includes. Why didn't I ever think of checing those out?
Thanks for the free drumkit! Your videos are always top quality. Do you use OBS to shoot them? I'd be curious to better understand your recording setup and process, maybe one video about it one day?
Finally a producer how uses Cubase with a lot of knowledge and is entertaining at the same time (rare combo to find). Love your videos man, keep up the good work :)
Cubase channel strip is a win win situation
A real men's happiness when he is doing what is like! Thanks for your tutorials.
This episode was great Dom! Sometimes you just need a reminder that what comes in your DAW is very much usable and possibly easier to get a great result quicker because of how it's laid out! Also Cubase has high quality processing out of the gate :0

I always feel that the Cubase channel Strip is so Underrated.

Absolutely agree! I wish they'd put out an updated CC121 that totally integrates with the channel strip and components...
Honestly it's the part of Cubase that I use the most. It is excellent for preserving some PC processing power.
Cubase is the Beast 💥🔥❤️
I tried to start using the Cubase Channel Strip years ago when it first came out, but never really got used to it and kept on building my own chains on inserts. I'm now persuaded to give it another go. Thanks for another great Cubase video.

Man I really really love this channel
Dom, you make this soo easy to understand. Thank you for the clarity. I have never really used it, but now I'm going to explore it more.
Yet AGAIN I learn about a TON of stuff already built into Cubase that I knew nothing about. Thanks again, Dom!
This is totally timely Dom! As my computer is getting older I have been using more of the Cubase Plugins to save on CPU, especially in the tracking phase. I should have been using the channel strip more the whole time, it really is underrated. Great video man!
I TOTALLY AGREE!!!!👍
Thanks for reminding me of the channel strip. I have glanced over this too many times.Cheers Dom
Dom. Thanks for all the videos. I'd be totally lost without you.
Dom!! You're completely awesome!
I didn't plan to listen to all of this, but I did, and am so very gratified!

Thank you my friend ❤️
I’m guilty of kind of forgetting about the channel strip a lot of the time. This video is awesome. Makes me want to fire up the Mac and get mixing!
Just purchased cubase 2 days ago!! Such an awesome DAW, love it!
This is the best free software Ive seen. Respect.
yes finally Dom explaining us this cubase feature.
I watch this video a year ago & just now & have seen things that didn't sink in first time around & I'm gonna watch it again, thanks Boomer!

Tube Compressor and Channel Strip are amazing!
channel strip presets...I know what i will do this weekend ;) Nice video Dom !!
I started using Channel Strip after I reviewed Harrison Mixbuss for a magazine and realised how slick the "restricted" workflow model can be. Good vid, and I love how you bop along to the music -

Man there is Sooo much more in Cubase the further down the rabbit hole you go! Thanks for all the insight once again! 🤙🏽
Dom, I know this vid is a couple years old and I should have seen before now but wow! This will help me a lot with plugin over use. Thanks!
i use it now since 2017 which is 5 years and i still learn all the functions and shortcuts but also the Mastering level of production techniques.
i buy second hand mastering books of engineering and even Cubase fundemental books to learn along my work as i still produce and record.

You're the shiz Dom. Many thanks for your video. Needed this one. Always learning!
I used the channel strip at first and then avoided it because I was building my own insert chain. I may start using this again now. Thanks.

Hey Dom, thanks for all the great videos. Would love to see a tutorial on how you got the ambience, lighting and acoustics in your room.

Found this one very useful, lots of little points I've never used and will going forward. Thanks Dom!

Dom, can you make a video about how you made your intro music?
The wonderful and magnificent Dom and his so great and detailed videos! So excited!
