This is an old video, but I really want that Catan video to happen.
Seconded.
I use Arduino too
god

But I don't use it enough to make it my second name

"I've taken some youtube data and made a spreasheet!"
Of course you did Grey, of course you did...
Grey's approach to problem solving:
1) make a spreadsheet
2) did it work?
3) ???
4) profit
Spreadsheets are fun. Especially CSVs.
Where is the Spreadsheet?
yea where is it

Good for you. (you probably don´t even remeber commenting after 3 years :P)

I love the comment about "There is a voice in your head that you like and a voice on the tape that you don't".
SO TRUE! I listen to my own videos and ask "is that REALLY how I sound?" I can't stand it, but my wife says I'm easy to listen to, which is good, because we recently passed our 10th wedding anniversary, so I guess we have a future! :)
You’re not alone. I don’t like my voice on a recording but everyone else says my voice is nice. I think hearing your own voice sound different is unsettling in some way.
My videos with my sound horrible

So weird to see you here. Love your content as well.
I have my term project due in four hours. Good thing CGP Grey came to the rescue suggesting a book entitled "Getting Things Done". All I have to do is read that book cover to cover and I'll be ready to start my project.
This is Grey's favourite comment.

"I do want to talk about the importance of being able to change your mind, in general, the trick is to keep your identity separate from your opinions. They are objects in a box you carry with you and should be easily replaceable if it turns out they're not good. if you think the opinions in the box are who you are then you'll cling to them despite every evidence to the contrary.
Bottom line, if you want to be always right you need to always be prepared to change your mind."
Loved it
So basically, "If you always want to be right, you always need to be prepared to admit that you are wrong." Paradox or the greatest advice ever?

You should make a channel with all your failed videos
I was thinking the same thing =)
I dont think there ARE any failed videos. Most of the fails are just pieces of scripts to ideas

CGPGrey is probably the only youtuber I know who gets more views per video than he has subscribers. I was actually surprised to hear he only had 1 million subscribers.
There are quite a few, like Teamfourstar for just normal youtube people. But all music video's just about do the same. There are quite a lot of them!
Grey changes the thumbnail:

Q&A's set up to go every other with your normal videos would be a good idea in my view. That way if anyone has a question about the last informative video you could put the answer in the q&a. Just a suggestion.
Please make the long and boring video about Settlers of Catan. It's my favorite board game ever!
I'd definitely watch it. Maybe just put a disclaimer at the beginning that the video is only for hardcore Catan fans?
I know you say that your classes aren't like hour long CGP Grey videos, but I do really think that I would very much enjoy being taught by you, although that may be because I enjoy your videos so much.
Yes!!! please make that Katan video!
I would love to see a video on that, also on boardgame designs, it's... boring? How did you manage that?? Katan is awesome!!! (Or... Catan, if you please...)
I'm not quite sure but I think even the German original of the game spells it Catan - I'd have to go all the way to the closet and look for the game.. or ask google. Both of which I can't be bothered to do right now - so no Katan anywhere. But never mind that, yes I want that video as well and yes it is the greatest board game ever. Apart from the really, really crappy space Catan-thingy. That is just bad, not just because Catan needs wooden pieces (and the spaceships keep breaking)
I'm dyslectic and ignorant, you're correct :P
Still... I prefer Katan, the C is an annoying letter. It should make up its mind: either sound like an S or a K. In fact become different sound altogether.
Your reasoning behind not making videos every week made me think back to all your videos I've seen and I can't for the life of me find one that I didn't find interesting and informative. Better to have quality videos attracting viewers like yours than daily vlogging or weekly updates.
How do I buy your things?!?!
Is on another re-thumbnailing spree
Today I found out My world geography teacher is subscribed to cgp, he played the EU video and I thought it was just mere luck, but today everyone in class was talking about how they liked it, and he said he has many more videos, specifically the one over Great Britain, which I'm excited to see again.
I think that you should keep the ideas that you throw out, but put them in a junk drawer for lack of a better word. Every once in a while, you pull a bunch of stuff out of the junk drawer and mash them all together with a few revisions and jokes added in, in a CGPGrey teaches you random things video. Then you can teach all of the things, and still maintain a level of quality for your videos.
Also, why am I not more glad that you like the interrobang‽
Goddamnit, now that I've commented, I feel silly that I didn't watch more and commented that my heroes are Clinkz and Broodmother... yes, I am the worst kind of person.
paxmorgana Clinkz is fine, but you're a scrub for liking Broodmother.
Love your channel, been re watching some and digging for ones I might have missed.
7:37 that is the most interesting "could-have-been" I've ever heard
*I AGREE 💯%* with our host of this channel on this answer. 👨⚖️👨🏫👏🤔⏳
Your weekly review comment has inspired me and convinced me to do my homework. CGP Grey, you help me be a better person. I'm going to try and do weekly self evaluations.
I really idolise this CGP Grey character, very well made videos and content. A few of the things I like most about him, probably like many others is his anonymity, and how he keeps his job as an educator, rather than doing the green-eyed self-centred things most humans would do, which is selling out, and tapping in the money. His anonymity gives a funny sense of mystery, since my physics teacher could be him cause of the similar background, voice and way of talking, it's almost like a real-life educational batman. Well, I'd say my physics teacher is probably not him, but anyway, I love your work CGP Grey, and hope more comes.
Honestly, I don't care that there's no schedule. The quality of the vids make it worth it. And in a slightly backwards way, it makes me more appreciative of the effort and time put into creating the videos. Because if there's a schedule I might go "oh, of course he's gonna upload a video." whereas a more scattered upload schedule make every time a video come up a "oh my gosh, a new video!!".
I agree
Thank you, Gray, for not publishing every week. I appreciate the quality in stile, presentation, and content of your videos.
Actually, that documentary on board game design sounds pretty awesome! :D
Ryan Mason i second that
The cooling down in a hot summer day thing is, I think, related to what people in the middle east do to "keep cool". Or rather, it tricks them in to feeling cooler than they actually are.
Think about it. You drink hot coffee, or tea, or cocoa when it is cold to warm you up, but the result when you go back out into said frigid abyss is that it feels even colder than before. Something similar is being happening for those that drink hot tea to "cool off" on a hot day and in no air conditioning. Give it a try, or you could start wearing a scarf (or shemagh) loosely around your neck and then take it off when you get indoors.
1. I think that has to do with how different your body temperature is, compared to the environment that you're in. In the example you gave, you go inside (gaining heat from being in a warmer environment compared to outdoors, assuming indoors is warmer), you drink a hot beverage (gaining more heat) and you go back outside. Therefore, the difference in temperature between your body and the environment is now greater than before you warmed up and so you feel like it's colder. In reality, you're just warmer and are rapidly losing the heat you gained not too long ago.
2. Shemaghs keep the sunlight from directly hitting the skin around your head/neck which is why you feel cooler wearing one in a hot, sunny day than you would if you weren't wearing anything to protect your skin. The energy hits the shemagh first so the intensity or focus of the energy is lessened compared to having the energy hit your skin directly. Essentially, you are left warm/hot while wearing a shemagh as protection, rather than being cooked/burnt alive under the sunlight.
With Settlers of Catan being my all time favorite board game I hope he gets his script figured out some day.
Grey!!! Seeing that you spent so much time on a Catan video and didn't release it depresses me. This is my favorite board game of all time and I play it weekly if not bi-weekly. No matter how boring you thing it is, please reboot and release this. Would be very interested and would love to see it. I promise I'm not alone in this.
Absolutely loved the Dota reference! RIP the name Necrolyte though...
Agreed. Did you catch the other dota reference he made? I think it was a short gif in a corner of one of his videos. Can't remeber which one, though.
I found you thru hank and John green, who I was led to bu Philly D. Now I'm trying to imagine a channel of my own, thanks for setting the bar so high. Grr... But I do very much enjoy your work, thank you
The amount of respect I have for this man for going back years to update this video’s thumbnail is incredible.
Grey: Has ability to change constitution
me: gerrymandering, he'll change that
Grey: Interstate commerce clause!
I thought he will erase the electoral college. He has a lot of videos about hating it.
The hot tea thing originates from India and it turns out to be true. your body consuming the hot tea assumes you must be hot so regulates your body to cool down. They did a thing about it in npr, I think it was on the radio lab show
OH.MY.GOODNESS. I love Glove and Boots. I'm glad you mentioned that they should have more subscribers. In my opinion, they're one of the best TH-cam channels being produced right now :)
The hot tea joke brings me back to this Q&A regularly. Makes me smile.
Really like your videos. Thank you for making them :)
Dark Seer! Necrolyte! Whooooo.
You should totally do a video about the history of Dota and/or eSports! People need to know that professional gaming is a thing!
Yeah, I think you could make a very interesting video on Professional gaming.
I'll be honest, I would love a CGPGrey Documentary. That would be amazing.
HAHAAHA, sick DOTA 2 reference CGP, My initial level of respect for you just quintupled. Love the vids, I know this one isn't too recent, but keep it up.
I would love an hour long CGP Grey class
Thanks for sharing your videos with us and for doing some Q&A so that we can understand the work that you go through just a little more. =) I have enjoyed for following you for the past year or so and I must say it has been a joy. I look forward to more vids--and more Q&A when you get more subscribers. ;)
Make sure to check out Plethrons . It's a pretty cool channel!

Will do, thanks for the recommendation!!!
Celsius at 0: Water freezes.
Fahrenheit at 0: The coldest you can get if you mix salts and crushed ice correctly.
Celsius at 100: Water boils.
Fahrenheit at 100: A bit above human body temperature.
Which seems like the best to you?
Fahrenheit because I grew up with it, and perfection doesn't bother me, measuring with the foot is 12 inches, a mile is Idek, and all the weirdness, I prefer metric, (because thats what my school book (I'm homeschooled) taught me) it's more of a "I use cause I always have" kinda thing
Congratulations on the 1000000 subscribers!
That video you took out back was so innocent. I feel bad now
Caught me by surprise with those Dota2 references.
You are now 10 times cooler.

I have a question, CGP. Have you ever considered including podcasts into your media-sphere, instead of just videos? I love your videos, but knowing how coomplicated they are to make, would creating podcasts (in addition to videos) be another opportunity to get your voice out even more?

I'd love to see that Catan project man! I personally love board game design and gameplay and Catan has been a staple in my family and friend circle for before my birth. I'd love to see that vid if this comment happens to influence you in that direction :)
I obsess about gamedesign all the time and Settlers of Catan is fairly certainly my favorite board game. A CGP Grey video (or documentary, the longer the better) about why Settlers of Catan is amazing would make me so happy. Papa, please, I promise I won't ask anything for my birthday or christmas.
That "Greek steam engine" was designed by Hero of Alexandria and is called an aeolipile. It's quite cool, I'm am quite surprised you pointed that out, I study Art History and I haven't ever come across another person who knows about it. Great mind.
You should do a video on Hong Kong, its complicated relationship with China, and its transfer from the United Kingdom. There is lots to talk about: politics and such. Maybe you should throw in Macau for good measure.

Can't wait to see the board game design video. 😊 Try again soon please! 😁
love your logo!
YOU GOTTA MAKE THE CATAN VIDEO! I reaaaaaaally dislike that game; to me, the game really just shows how much board games have gotten better over time through better game design choices. Less dice roll chance time, more strategic tactics. Less political gameplay elements. More variety not through random board creation, but through swapping out different game pieces and changing the entire game functionality. My opinion is probaby biased since I play the game all the time, but I definitely think Dominion is the best board game of all time. Boards are always new and bring different ways to play. There's so much variety and so much tactical decision making. But it's still a card game, so there's still luck and uncertainty. So good.
So yeh, I really want to hear what you've got to say about Catan and why you think it's the best board game ever.
If you like strategic tactics with an element of chance, you should try Warhammer or Warhammer 40k.
you could try risk, basically you take over the world by stategicaly placing armies on the map
I know somebody who loves Warhammer, and it's just not for me. I'm not into collecting and painting miniatures. And Risk is way old. You could bottle Risk with other classic board games that pretty much everybody has played, along with Monopoly, Sorry, Scrabble, and Clue.
lkjkhfggd No need to apologize, I can forgive Monopoly.
I have no idea what that game is. But I was 1000 times more disappointed it got cut. CGP, You've overlooked something you explained in a previous video: Creativity encourages more creativity (and the same for content). I would prefer to see videos from you more often. I think its worth resurrecting the cut videos, because we are all the harshest critic of our own work and they were probably awesome. Please stop judging yourself so harshly.
Hey, grey,Just so you know, if you ever make the video about settlers of catan board game- i might not be fully into it but i will 100%, without a doubt, watch it.
Possibly while doing something in the background like organizing my room, washing dishes or writing something but i would definetly watch it :)
