The Magna has turned out really nice, your attention to detail has paid off. As for any negative comments, any comment is a comment the Algorithm does not know the difference between positive or negative comment . So that is good for the TH-cam Algorithm. So even a negative comment is a positive for your channel, pushing you up the list. I have been a mechanic for 37 years still going, i think your channel is really good keep up the great work.

Hi Sean. Great work with the Magna. I owned a TH 3.5V6 Advance for 10 years (fabulous car). I also worked at a Mitsubishi Dealership selling TJ's and TL's and also the AWD's. During the launch of the AWD at Mount Cotton, we were taken for rides in a Ralliart by some very talented V8 Supercar drivers - awesome. Anyhow, when I was at Mitsubishi, I copied the Factory Workshop Manual CD for the TH, TJ, Ralliart, TL and AWD. The file is 150MB so I cannot send it to you via email/Messenger so if you want to send me your address, I am happy to send you a copy. Happy to help another Magna fan - very underrated car. Cheers

The TJ was probably the peak of the Magnas. The front end just had a subtle hint of aggression, then they totally stuffed it with the TL/TW. It continued to get worse with the 380. I really think Mitsubishi Aust missed the bus with the 380. Apart from its blandness, it was a sedan only. Everyone knows MMA could do a good wagon, even with 4wd, just when everyone was going towards SUV/soft roaders. If they had done a slightly raised 4wd wagon version if the 380, it could have sold well. If they went further with a diesel V6 4wd/AWD version, and given it the Luxo treatment, it would have been a serious competitor for the likes of VW Passat 4-motion/Audi Quattro wagons for about 20 to 30k less. Ford’s Territory was petrol only and Holden had the horrendous Adventra with a fuel guzzling V8. Had MMA made that car, its main competitors would be the VW/Audi at quite a price premium, actually MMA could have created a whole new market segment, all for itself.

  • @pcorf

10:12 the Sports wagon was put into production with the same body kit. But it was fitted with the standard 16 inch alloy wheels of the sedan, auto transmission, standard interior, not lowered. I actually saw one today when I was driving my Sports sedan (sedan is without the body kit, more common VRX with body kit). Yes I agree the exhaust resonance is ABSOLUTLEY insane! I'd love to own your Ralliart, but I live in Tasmania, a long way away.

As for the wind noise around the windows. I remember working on these in the dealership and there were like 20+ different adjustments that can be made in the tilt, pitch, angle, grade and steepness if the window glass. But most of the time a full side rubber seal kit which replaces the entire rubber seal along the whole side of the car would do the trick without diving down the window adjustment rabbit hole.

On the topic of Mitsubishi Japan putting the kibosh on things, it just points out the biggest drawback of the Australian market - We're small and right hand drive. If we had a larger population, we'd have been more likely to get special vehicles because they'd sell in bigger numbers, and if we were left hand drive, not only would our locally produced cars require less work to sell as exports, but we'd be able to bring in a much larger selection of models out of the world market.
All that aside though, as someone that got my license in 2000 (in my instructor's blue manual TF Magna sedan, ironically enough), that TJ Magna Sports wagon prototype was hot as anything back in the day. You're still making me nostalgic for my KJ Verada Xi, too. Plushest leather I've ever had the pleasure of parking my bum on. 🤣

This is literally my favourite car in the whole world, all it needed from stock would of been AWD and a supercharger, so that's my dream to get an AWD and a Ralliart so I can make an AWD Ralliart with most likely an Evo manual gearbox, but as I said just a dream. Also they did make the sports wagons, they are beautiful there's even a nice white one for sale down south.

Sorry to hear they got you too Sean - those bloody bollards are hiding in carparks just waiting for drivers of this generation of Magna' to come along. Only thing I ever reversed into in my driving life (I'm now in my mid 50's) was a bloody bollard in my TE Magna (I use the excuse that it was raining and the bollard wasn't properly vertical...which is true) - the blindspots/rear visibility on these Magna's have to be the worst of any sedan I have driven, and yes, that was the catalyst for me to fit a reversing camera on it too. Enjoying the video's. Cheers!

Great to see the Mana Ralliart on the road, It would be great to see it get repainted otherwise it's looking great. Also I do agree what you were saying about less and more powerful cars. I have had that conversation with my brother a couple times that sometimes slower cars can be more fun to drive then faster cars on public roads because you can use most of the power in a slower car. As fun as it would be to drive high end performance cars you can't enjoy them as much without worrying about losing your license if you want to drive them the way they are designed to be driving unless you have access to a racetrack. That's one of the reasons why I would choose an AU XR Model of the BA because you would be able to enjoy it more on public roads but if I could have it my own way I would have the both of them.

G'day Sean! Fantastic work getting the Magna roadworthy. It looks so clean inside! I'm so bloody keen to see the exterior all painted and back to its former glory. With the window adjusted and the drone sorted out, you've got yourself an A1 condition piece of Australian motoring history. Old mate at the RWC centre was on the ball. Never sell this thing if you can avoid it.
Also, you're doing an amazing job with your channel and its content. You've got to remember, what you're putting out is free to the public and people don't quite appreciate how much time and effort goes into each TH-cam video uploaded by smaller creators like yourself. So you'll get haters and people who reckon their way is the only way to go. I know it can be hard at times, but you've just gotta ignore them. They're hating on the channel, not you, so remember that. While your perception of the channel may be that it's an extension of yourself, other people aren't viewing it like that, and they're not hating on you as a person. And if they are, well they don't deserve anyone's time, much less yours.
Top notch stuff as always mate, very keen to see more come of it. Hope you're doing well :)

  • @forddriver8827
    @forddriver8827 ปีที่แล้ว +5

Well done Sean, good to see it passed. A few days ago, I treated the Throttle Body & MAF sensor to a proper clean. As most know, our fuel in this country is rated 71st worst quality in the world. Yes folks, this is fact. All fuels are identical, it is only the octane rating that differs. Our cars need to be tuned to take advantage of octane so use what the manufacturer specifies as anything more is a waste. Sean, make sure you rotate the RE003's every few thousand kms. They are a soft compound to start with, so they will wear a little quicker, but with front wheel drive, they tend to push a little sideways, regardless of driving technique. I also suggest anybody using a low profile or performance tyre inflates them to 38psi when COLD. Tyres gain 4 psi after they have warmed up, making 42psi which seems to be the ideal psi. I have based this on my last 20 years of buying tyres for various model XR8 sedans and my wifes preference of Subaru Impreza's (sadly n/a engines). Bridgestone, Hankook, Continentals, Pirelli and my go to tyre, Falken Azenis 510, a japanese made tyre from the Sumitomo Co who also make Dunlop. The Subaru has RE003's which are awesome, but I found the weight of the XR8 played a roll in their shorter lifespan. Have you considered a closed door respray? I have seen some excellent results on 20+ year old cars from reputable operators, around $3-4000. Considering the rarity of these Ralliart's, there is no reason these will not be a genuine collectable. Recent times have shown many non turbo or AWD cars are highly desireable and now the used market has calmed a little, the next 5 years will be interesting for those who own older cars. All the best, regards Cameron.

    • @Low760
      @Low760 ปีที่แล้ว

You're incorrect about fuel octane and qaulity. 91 has more sulphur in it than 95 and 98 octane and of course companies put more additives in for 98.
But obviously you know so much better than the expert's, you just sound like the typical tight arse justifying using the dirtier fuel with your car that smells like rotton egg from the higher sulphur fuel.

It's probably the best Magna ever designed, a Supercharged one preferably.
      They had about 250kw & 450nm.
But the reason is because the interior was completely overhauled & top notch in comparison to lesser model's.
Auto model's are great too if you prefer, there was much revisions to the auto transmission for the power increase & the traction & trace control system worked much better on this car.

So enjoy your victory lap, even if it is 8 seconds to 100..who cares!
Don’t let the sandcastle kickers get you down mate, they’ve never built one to start with, so keep on keeping on. If you do hit 100k by Christmas this year, I call shotgun for a lap.
    Enjoy

Absolutely loved watching this series! My love for 5sp manual Magna came from riding in one when I was 13 (28 now) and haven’t been able to shake wanting once since! Enjoy it!

Before I watch the rest of the video: I've done the bollard thing too. Mine was at about 1am leaving Mater Hospital carpark (3rd day of being a dad if I remember correctly) and the stupid thing was shorter than the window line of the Kia Sportage I was driving. I don't use the reverse camera if I can help it (should have) and the sensors were beeping on and off as it's a bollard so wasn't picking it up properly, so I was ignoring them. Right on the corner of the passenger side of the bumper.
That was irritating. I feel your pain. Except your car is way cooler than mine (well, my wife's)

That car ended up with a Sprintex supercharger, stiffer and wider everything, a track beast. The rear end in these will just follow if you stiffen it up to all hell 👌

You should do car reviews potentially, like Doug De Muro type thing. Relaxing watch with the driving in the background but interesting commentary.

You need to have your local exhaust guy work up a set of tuned-length extractors for this thing, really make it howl! Those 6G engines CAN sound tough as nuts. I wonder if Kelford do a set of mild cams for them? I know the Ralliart engines had slightly better factory cams in them, but going another step further could only be a big win.

Rumour has it that Shorno was attempting to use the torque of the V6 to push the bollard over so he could use it as an exhaust.

Great video mate, I used to own a 2003 Mitsubishi Magna tj sports, was basically the vrx minus the body kit, did have a rear spoiler, fast car for what it was, I had the 5 speed automatic tiptronic, I took it to willowbank test n tune and it ran 15.0sec down the quarter mile, which in my opinion was good for a stock standard 163kw v6

That's awesome man, really good to see the the car on the road.
I think you are absolutely right about the pleasures of driving a manual car that doesn't do warp speed. I too drive a turbo Barra powered Ford and love it, but every now and then I jump into my wife's manual RX8. Low hp, not that quick, but handles well and is just fun to drive.
Enjoy the car mate, fix those niggling things over time. Paint will top the car off, but I'd imagine that would be big bucks ....

Well done Sean. Great to see the Magna out on the road and that you're enjoying it. You're a class act. I reckon most haters are jealous or insecure because they either can't do what you do. It's far too easy to be a keyboard warrior instead of acknowledging great work or giving help or tips. I'm pretty impressed with the progress given the amount of time you've had to work on it. And who'd have though there'd be such a great example of japanese technology at this stage given the neglected state it was in from those first images when you purchased it. Looking forward to more of your great tips as the Ralliart continues its transformation.

Well done Sean and Happy Birthday. So good to see you get her on the road. And the guy was right, these things a diamonds. Once the exterior is redone it's going to be a great car again. These things still fetch a good price in SA when in good condition as there are a lot of Magna owners. Yellow, Red, and Blue are the main colours seen. This one being Black would be a winner. That's if I don't win the dam lotto first.
    Love That Car.

Hey mate well done! Awesome work on the old girl getting her up to spec 👌 hey not sure if you fixed it or not but just get some silicon spray for the seatbelts. Pull them all the wag put and spray away as you let the belt retract slowly. They'll be brand new 👍

    7:38 Not fast fast
*Laughs in TH Sports 5MT with a super aggressive tune based on the Ralliart tune and mid range 5 second to 100*
Mind you I did put on some bolt on headers bigger injectors and a more aggressive tune as well as a port and polished 380 Induction manifold which has made Throttle Response absolutely insane.
if you put the same tune on your car as my TH Sports it will probably beat my Maggie. Since you have Ralliart Cams and so on.
If you want it faster it doesn't take much effort to make it quicker with a flash tune on the Programmable ECU.
Well done and Congratulations on getting it back on the road mate.
Side note that Ralliart Maggie would beat that VT Calais you had a while back since the Power to weight Ratio is in favour of the Mighty Maggie.
