I believe I have primary lymphedema, and as well, lipedema. From the time I was very young, I remember hurting if someone would grab me by the arm or if a dog would jump on my legs, etc. I was a normal weight in high school, 127, (somewhat plump as a child), but I remember always having to increase the arms of clothes I would sew. My ankles were not skinny, but I looked fairly normal at that time with a very small waist and rib cage, C cup bra size. After high school, I began to put on weight. I was fortunate to stumble across Dr. Atkins low carb diet book and was able to keep my weight down by just eating low carbs. This was in the 70s. However, after 4 babies, I found myself 80 pounds overweight and I believe my lipedema developed at that time. 4.5 years ago, I got serious about low carbs again and lost 56 pounds, but struggled to keep it off (gaining about 30 pounds back, then losing 20, etc.), yo-yo-ing back and forth. So excited when my daughter came across carnivore!!! We both started carnivore in August 2021. Since then, in eight months, I’ve lost about 45 pounds. I am still about 40 pounds from my lowest weight, but 90 under my heaviest. I am never going back. I am sooo excited to KNOW I will never put this weight back on! How is my lymphedema and lipedema? I still am experiencing some lymphedema, very mild. Still big ankles. But I’ve dropped from size 20 to size 12-14. I just turned 69 this week, so I think my progress is remarkable. My husband says my jeans are saggy in the butt…🤷🏼♀️, but he’s okay with it. My friends keep telling me how good I look. I just say, “I’m just thrilled that I FEEL better.” I also self-diagnosed myself with fibromyalgia years ago, because I ached all the time. I do not ache anymore. Sugar/carbs was poison for me!
It's so so much easier when someone else in the family joins you. when you have to do it on your own and you have to look after husband and kids it's really hard.
@@chloe7seven22 Yes, my husband did it for a while but he says he doesn’t have enough willpower, haha! So he does his own thing and I do mine. I’ve sorta convinced him not to eat the bun with a hamburger, so that’s good. Good luck! Anything worthwhile takes effort! 😁
@@yosavite_savv Still on carnivore! I struggle a little from time to time, gained about 7 pounds from “cheating”, but now on a 4-day fast and hoping to get that off and even below that. I feel so much better that the “cheating” really isn’t worth it. I pretty much know 100% that I will stay on it for my lifetime. The rewards are great! I am now 71.
@@yosavite_savv Yes, thanks for asking! I have stumbled a few times but right now just 7 pounds above my lowest weight (since being on carnivore). I did a 3-day fast and a 4-day fast just recently and feel great! I’m now 71 and never thought I could ever feel good again. As a woman with lipodema I really appreciate Dr Baker trying to get information out there for us and giving us hope. We are hopelessly underdiagnosed and this is vital information for us.
Edit: sensitivity to touch or compression at all will make the pain worse! I have had to wear pants that are too big and super soft because I could tolerate nothing else. I used to live without pants whenever possible because nothing fit my shape. A daily bath is still necessary to prevent pain. A warm soak helps a lot. The fat felt like concrete balls and would hang on the sides of my knees and hips. Massage would hurt like hell and ultimately lead to reduction in pain. This explains why I swell the way that I do. Sometimes the pain and swelling come together. Others they don’t. Over 2 years carnivore and still healing. My lipidema is much better and I’ve noticed the shape is changing in my legs and I’m losing what I’ve lovingly/hatefully called my saddle bags on my hips and knees. My legs look a bit stumpy when they’re swollen but they’re normal shaped. According to my research, liposuction was the only option to help and lipidema is considered cosmetic. The pain is not cosmetic! It will stop you in your tracks and make you seem even more lazy to people who unfairly judge the obese. Being morbidly obese makes every action a workout. Thanks for the community and fascinating conversation. Like oxalates, I feel like lipidema is something a lot of people struggle with but most people don’t talk about because it’s considered normal. It is unfair that people judge others especially when they don’t understand that the heavy person has lipodema. I hope your healing continues on carnivore.
Late to the Lipedema diagnosis, but have been Carnivore for two years. I was diagnosed in 2018 with Primary and Secondary Lymphedema in both legs, (worse in the left one), secondary after both knees were replaced, one in 2014, the other in 2017(left leg in '17). This one got infected, two subsequent surgeries on this left one, and I had two bacteria growing, one being a staph infection. 9 months on antibiotics, 2 of which were IV meds. I wear compression socks every day, had bought "Lymphedema and Lipidema Nutrition Guide" by Chuck Ehrlich, Emily Iker, MD and many others. I began Keto, lean more towards Ketovore/Carnivore, in September 2020. I take measurements monthly, and noticed my left calf a little bigger than the right. I picked up this book and read through the nutrition and had to laugh. By that, most everything I have been doing was wrong, but I have lost more than 90 lbs., gone from a size 3x to a 1x top, and from a women's plus size 24w pants to a 14-16 in ladies. Thank you for this video, as I have been really worried that I would have to ho back to a bad way of eating!
I am on the ketogenic diet as a lipedema patient and I can confirm that I saw a noticeable difference of reduced swelling in my legs within the first month of going keto

I have l had lymphedema for 21 years and was told there was nothing they could do but compression socks and fluid pills. I’ve been carnivore for about 2 months and I’ve noticed a difference, not completely gone but better than before. I’m so glad I came across this podcast. I’ve always tried to figure out the “trauma “ that could have caused it and it showed up the day I found out I was pregnant with my first child. 🤷♀️
Thank you for this enlightening interview. I had early stage 4, type 4 lipoedema with secondary lymphoedema. Low inflammatory, very low carb keto stopped my pain, gave me enough energy to start exercising in water, and importantly softened my fibrosed tissues and lipomas so that I was able to have x6 lipoedema extraction procedures. The removal of the diseased fat tissue plus upgrading to carnivore has given me a life and lifestyle that I never thought I could have. The surgeries made me look better (smaller in the lower body), but the change in the way I eat has been the cause 80% of my life improvements. Diet is definitely the most important intervention that we can do for ourselves.

How did I miss this interview? I have Lipedema. I’ve been strength training for 15 years. I still have cottage cheese legs. And going off carnivore brings pain. I never thought it serious, but lately my arms feel too heavy to carry when walking and my legs feel like toothaches. I’m going to lipedema specialists to try and get this under control.

Thank you so much for this talk. I've had lipedema my entire adult life (not formally diagnosed.) I weight train, and noticed significant progress using a high protein, animal-based mostly keto diet. I will do limited carbs targeted before weight training workouts, but try to not have any carbs spill over into storage glycogen.
I definitely have lipedemia, probably stage 2. I most likely was able to control it when I was younger and slimmer. I would say I just thought that even though at 5'3" and under a 110# in my teens and 20's, that I just had bigger thighs and calves but could still wear small sizes for pants. When I hit peri-menopause then came the weight and the actual lipedemia.
I just learned about lipedema a couple of years ago. I haven't been diagnosed with it officially but yes I have pretty much everything she was talking about. I was wondering if using a rebounder would help. I've been thinking about getting one. I know for me personally when I stick to this way of eating, which is mostly carnivore I don't have the pain that I do when I choose to eat carbs for what ever lame reason. Mine started with the pregnancies but I've always had large thighs and hips in high school so I wonder if it was starting then but just on like a very low level. I gained a good 50 lb with both of my pregnancies, both were c-sections. Another 20 lbs for a partial hysterectomy followed by another 20 for the rest of the equipment to be removed. I could drop 5 or 10 pounds here and there if I tried really hard but never really could seem to keep it off for any length of time. I had gotten up to 280 was like a set wait for me for a while and I know I had probably gone too if not over 300 but had refused to get on the scale at that point. In 2001 I had some success going to the gym following the exercise part of the body for Life plan. And following the eat every three to four hours thing. I got laid off for the winter and basically didn't have the money to keep paying for a gym ship membership. It took a good 6 months for the way to start coming back but once it started it piled right back on. Sometime later I was introduced to Kangen water. After about a year of drinking that I went from a tight size 24 pants to a tight size 14, my weight didn't really change much so I'm guessing that was inflammation. The size of my legs and my hips had gone down. When I stop drinking that water four time the pain the stiffness the swelling all started to come back and I went back up to a size 20 for a while. I've been playing around with the keto Carnival thing for about 2 and 1/2 years now. I've lost three and a half inches off my waist I'm back down to a size 16 and the pain is much better including the joint pain in my knees. My blood work has improved dramatically. I just started doing strick carnivore for the past 2 weeks. I have noticed my energy level has increased. In my head I want to run but my knees are saying slow your roll, we still have some healing to do. (Note: I have never been a runner. 😉) I am excited to see what happens especially after watching this.
rebounding and vibration plates are both wonderful ways to get the lymph moving. Try doing some MLD and deep breathing to help activate the lymph system, and rebound away!
I diagnosed myself with lipedema going through menopause is when it shows up. My pain in my knees were terrible. I was doing a low carb diet but the swelling was there and the pain. I started keto two days ago I lost one and half pounds and I don’t have a knee pain. Definitely keto is going to help to keep the swelling down and no pain.
I wasnt overweight until I had surgery, chemo and radiotherapy for breast cancer. I am now obese although I'm not diabetic. I need to look into this more
As with many "conditions" and "syndromes" I believe these issues are caused by poisonous injections, the same for all "Auto-immune" disease. The Lymphatic system IS your cleanse and repair system and it runs on Fat which is why eating good quality animal fat is essential to good health.
I have only had one injection in my life, and the lipidema had already started in me by then. I did not receive any shot until I was 39 years old. (I was very sick after the shot and ended up in ER.)
For those of us with lipedema, the method of liposuction is very specialized. We must continue to wear compression and keep inflammation low via dietary measures afterwards. We often will develop lipedema in other regions of our body. Even though it has been thought of as the only solution, liposuction can have some very negative results for some. Also, it is often not covered by insurance, and this makes it not an option for many. Another thing to remember, many people who are in the later stages deal with obesity and their surgeons want them to lose weight before they qualify for surgery. Once these women find that Keto/carnivore is the only thing that has positive results for weight loss, they also have reduction in pain, they find that they are not so likely to have the surgery. Some women have had bariatric surgery only to find that their pain didn't go away, they lose weight in their trunk, and they did not lose as much volume in their legs that they think they should have. Clean and simple Keto, carnivore, and intermittent fasting have been life changing for so many.
I just want to call out that you can still have lipidema without the typical pear shape. I have a rectangular shaped body and it affects my thighs, lower belly and arms are enormous.
Dr. Shawn I dont think you guys have Familial Hypercholesterolemia in the US. the motherload of these people are in South Africa among Afrikaner, Jewish ppl and Indian ppl. We know each other by xanthoma and white rings around the Iris. Other places where it's prolific are Iceland and Scandinavia and India apparently. Most are thankfully heterozygous but a double gene spells huge trouble when you have homozygosity. None of us are fat, in fact when I weighed 45 kgs my total was 13 without drugs. The only thing that brought it down was keto and now I'm on carnivore. But seriously lipid problems have caused much heartache among our ilk, especially among young men. My son had quintiple bypass at 30. He's fairing better on carnivore, never had a heart attack. On keto my doctors were astounded at how my total cholesterol plunged to almost normal. We can't tolerate statins - our legs cave. although I think lipidema is more about fat deposits like the lady said than blood cholesterol. Thank you so much
@@chloe7seven22 Yes, Lipedema and lipidemia are two very different things that have similar sounding names. Those of us who suspect we have lipedema often ask our doctors about it and they look at our bloodwork and say, "You don't have lipidemia." They know very little about it and often refuse to listen to us or believe us when tell them about the pain. We get, "Lose weight and you will feel better." Ugh. Leslyn Keith and Catherine Seo are on the forefront in helping us learn how to mange this disorder.
@@gailstraker That's just really bad on their side. I asked a young biochemistry student why they never major in auto-immunity etc and he said those are not sexy diseases. We never get sponsors for those. Money is in female problems and cancer. Imagine that! Not that delightful kid's fault, he was very bright, but saw through it. Good cheer to you, your troubles too will pass 🙋
I've been ketovore for 1.5 years and have gained weight (20 lbs starting around month 4 until resent). I am beyond frustrated. I do have stagnant lymphs and lipademia which I believe was brought upon by CAEBV. I am at a loss as to what to try. I currently have 95-100 lbs to lose.
My questions is I’m planning to eat only protein, fat and berries just a little bit. I’m scared of the veggies because I’m estrogen dominant, but from where I can have the other nutrients my body is going to need.
my lymphedema is in my belly. it hangs down to my knees and has thick skin and it leaks. would there be a problem in the swimming pool, as far as getting infections, or leaking that fluid into the pool? I would love to swim.
Pathetic that research is about follow the money. Patients don’t benefit and providers get slanted info. This is why, if you have a body, you have to do research, implement the data and ensure patient compliance as your own n=1. 🥩
I can not see cutting out plants from diet. While the carnivore might have a bit of flimsy anecdotes there are thousands of research studies showing the benefits for overall health on eating as many vegetables as you can.
Haven’t had them for almost 3 years. If a vegetable doesn’t have carbs, then eat it if you want, but nearly all vegetables have carbs, which converts to sugar, which your body burns as sugar. If you keep eating carbs, your body doesn’t get the chance to burn fat because it always burns sugar/carbs first. I’m 71 and have lost 94 pounds, losing that much in about 8 months…maybe a “flimsy anecdote” but I’m pretty happy not to eat vegetables.
Why is Dr Leslyn Keith laughing every so often as she happily talks about carnivore diet? Can she not understand that for some the thought of it it's really upsetting? Yet it looks like that if we want to get some results we must try it or are very much destined to swell like balloons. 😢
And what is wrong with being happy about finding a way of eating which has significant positive effects on lipoedema morphology? If every researcher has to modify their behaviour because “someone” might get upset, advances will never be made.
It is extremely troubling that one must eat animals to reverse or treat this condition. I’m morally opposed to eating animals. The treatment of these animals during their life and slaughtering animals that I just want to pet?…. I can not get my head around it. And I have Lipedema. When discussing carbohydrates are you referring to simple or complex carbohydrates as an as an enemy?

I am excited to see what happens especially after watching this.
rebounding and vibration plates are both wonderful ways to get the lymph moving.
Thank you
Thank you very much 👍👍
Fantastic info, thanks so much for sharing!!
I wasnt overweight until I had surgery, chemo and radiotherapy for breast cancer. I am now obese although I'm not diabetic.
I need to look into this more
Very informative, thank you
As with many "conditions" and "syndromes" I believe these issues are caused by poisonous injections, the same for all "Auto-immune" disease.
The Lymphatic system IS your cleanse and repair system and it runs on Fat which is why eating good quality animal fat is essential to good health.
Not just the poisonous injections, but all toxic/poisonous airborne, ingested, and skin-absorbed toxins, too.
I have only had one injection in my life, and the lipidema had already started in me by then.
I did not receive any shot until I was 39 years old.
(I was very sick after the shot and ended up in ER.)
I’m confused as I heard recently that a gf diet was good for lymphoedema
What are long term results / outcomes of liposuction? I would assume it would be repeated if they don't change life style?
See Dr Thomas Su in Tampa Florida videos on TH-cam
On the carnivore diet, how do you keep your energy levels up if you are avoiding carbs?
Thank you so much
unfortunately Heart Foundations are still into ANCYL Keyes. So we shut up re our diets.
I don’t think that would be a problem. Hope you can get to swimming!
I have terrible arthritis and lipedema and I'm doing carnivore not Keto. The reason is because the oxalates and vegetables absolutely kill me
Must be she cares and is wanting to help.
Is that right?
What have you got to lose? Always your choice❤
@@lauristandley4359 I sincerely hope it works out for you!
@@timyta3333 so far, in nearly 3 years, it’s been great! ☺️
Why is Dr Leslyn Keith laughing every so often as she happily talks about carnivore diet? Can she not understand that for some the thought of it it's really upsetting? Yet it looks like that if we want to get some results we must try it or are very much destined to swell like balloons. 😢
What’s w ring with eating steak and eggs?
And what is wrong with being happy about finding a way of eating which has significant positive effects on lipoedema morphology? If every researcher has to modify their behaviour because “someone” might get upset, advances will never be made.
Don’t knock it until you try it.
@1969strangelove - What on earth would be so upsetting about a carnivore diet? I don’t understand. Unless maybe you’re vegan?
It is extremely troubling that one must eat animals to reverse or treat this condition. I’m morally opposed to eating animals. The treatment of these animals during their life and slaughtering animals that I just want to pet?…. I can not get my head around it. And I have Lipedema. When discussing carbohydrates are you referring to simple or complex carbohydrates as an as an enemy?
