Wadhwan Port - also known as Vadhavan Port - is a proposed new port 140km north of Mumbai on the coast of Maharashtra state, India.
The port is to be built on 5000 acres of land reclaimed from the sea near the town of Dahanu, Palghar district. Envisioned as India's first foreshore port, the project is to be jointly administered by Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT)
Thousands of fishermen, adivasis, farmers and other residents from Palghar, Thane and Mumbai gathered at Azad Maidan between 11 am and 5 pm on Monday to demand a complete rollback of the proposed Vadhavan Port project in Dahanu taluka. According to the police, the crowd ranged somewhere between 8 to 12,000 people.

Me and my dad have a transport business in kalamboli, south Navi Mumbai. I just want to tell JNPT sucks, it's fright policy is pathetic and it is the biggest port in India. Trailers ko 4-6 hours sirf traffic mai khadi rehti hai just for clearance. Bohot paper work hai, agar suub complete nahi hai to feer se 4-6 hours ka wait. JNPT se 5-7km lamba trailers ka line laga rehta hai.
We really need new port. JNPT ko expand bhi nahi kar sakte hai. It have it's own limitations.

My message to all those protesting development is this - I have seen my own Tau (uncle) spend his entire life trying to stop Bank ATMs and use of computers in banks putting court cases at every stage. His logic was that ATMs and computers would result in thousands of people losing jobs. This was 30 years ago.
When I look today, the Indian banking sector employs 20 times the number of people that it did in the 1990s. This is despite computers, ATMs, UPI and automation.
It is very easy to become a leader by scaring ignorant, illiterate people that they'd be exploited and lose their livelihood. It is much, much more difficult to establish something that creates prosperity for lakhs.
So my earnest request to all the youth believing scare mongering politicians and NGOs is to see the ulterior motives behind these protests!

I live in Dahanu.... It is very beautiful and people from Mumbai come for weakened trips here.... the place selected for Vadwan port is next to a sea creek that leads to the adani power plant (dahanu). That adani power plant is even closer than the atomic power plant (BARC Tarapur, the one shown in video). The gradient is high on the shores of the creek.... Therefore you get really deep water very near to the shores... And also big fishes which the locals catch for their livelihood....
Gov should come up with some confidence building mechanism or incentive...or some scheme where the local fishermen and village people benefit from the project.

But the problem is Tamil Nadu coasts are very shallow from all sides.
And similarly most of Andhra & Orissa coast is shallow (only few places are deep)
      W. Bengal coast is totally shallow (only Haldia port is preferably deep)
And you forgot one thing, ie most of Oil & gas sourcing countries are nearby to western side. It will take double amount to bring same oil & gas containers to easter coast. And oil is the key to so many industries including Petroleum, diesel, Plastic, synthetic textile, etc.
Eastern states should compete in such sectors where their location might play better role like Electronics, semiconductor, electrical, telecom (because of proximity to east Asia countries who are performing great in Electronics related sectors) as well as in IT services, finance etc. Also, northern & eastern India has more fertile soil and more scope to agriculture, horticulture, etc

Yes it is true most people travel by local train and outsiders like from Navi Mumbai, Thane, Dombivali, Kalyan, Vasai Virar. But Metro will benefit us who live in city and suburbs a lot. We can afford to spend 50-60 rs for a AC ride instead of changing 2 trains for 10-15 rs and fighing in crowds. When 1st Mumbai metro started from Versova-Ghatkopar. It was a boon for us. Earlier we had to travel from Bus to Station 30-35 mins. Train to Dadar and change to Ghatkoper took another 1 hr. Now its 20-22 mins from Versova to Ghatkopar in AC for 60 rs. Why not, saves time, more comfortable, I would rather spend extra 30-40 rs and not go through all the fighting and pushing in local train.

I know one thing, Rapid development of Infrastructure will not harm the environment as much as a development that happens but over extended period of time because in such cases Nature does not get the opportunity to reclaim what Humans leave undeveloped. I mean a Road project if done properly and in the nick of time becomes a marvel as Nature regrows around that project, while a project hindered by protest where work starts then stops and then starts again is the worst for the environment!

    Hi Powertrain.
Was expecting a better video from ur side with a lot more research and why locals are protesting.
You only thought about development but what about locals?
The government doesn't provide any job security to the locals who lose their livelihood and also land in such mega projects.
U mentioned BARC and NPCIL. People who lost their land and were shifted to different places are still protesting for Jobs but the government doesn't pay any attention. Jobs are a farthing their children are not given admission in BARC and NPCIL schools which are AECS schools as promised earlier the students have to protest even for the quality education that they were promised. So many things were promised by the government but nothing was given. There is a lot more than just the land and livelihood that the locals have given to the earlier projects (BARC) but they didn't receive much in return.
Some people are commenting they should do fishing at a different place but Why? They lived here for so many years why should always locals suffer?
Instead, the project can be shifted to every time Government as a dictator just forces locals to sell their land.
Some are saying about projects going to other states. How are you comparing the Vedanta project with this port project? The semiconductor is the new age Petrol which would have brought a lot more advanced industries to the state so it is better we don't go there.
I will suggest u read some articles on how already existing projects like MIDC and Adani thermal plant is harming the environment.

Bro wadhavan port has the deepest draft anywhere in our country. Largest ships that are currently available can easily dock there.
Regarding local fishermen, the benefit this port will have on local and national economy (such as direct and indirect job creation) will far exceed any harm done to local fishing buisness.
But I agree with you that locals must be adequately compensated.

It's worse because only 10 percent is left in our hands.i would say it's better to labour working in farm than being farmer today.
