I carry a steel reinforced umbrella used for self defense which I have already used to ward of attacks. Pickpockets are very common. Don't keep money in bags that can be easily opened. Also when there are crowds getting into a train and someone is delaying getting on, it can mean another behind is pushing and then going for the wallet. I foiled this three times.
I do find it funny when somebody makes a comment like this; among the list of crimes against humanity, pickpocketing and shoplifting are the least damaging to a victim. In my youth I picked pockets for fun...I enjoyed the rush of stealing something under a mark's nose without them knowing. If I liked them I'd return the item, either by the same stealthy way I took it, or position the item underneath them, tap them on the shoulder and inform them that they dropped something. If I didn't like or know my victim, I'd be more likely to keep what I stole. As for the successful lift on the man in the trench coat...I speak from experience when I say that those pockets are among the easiest to pick. It's in the design of the coat: any item with even a small amount of weight will cause the pocket to bulge open, allowing for a foreign hand to sneak inside it and pluck said item out. What you saw that boy do is what's called a "fanning" technique...he gently brushed his hand against the side to confirm that there was something worth stealing before making his move. The fact that the mark left the sash of his coat untied made the theft all the easier; by not tying it, the coat will hang away from the body, giving a pickpocket an even better chance of making a successful lift.
@@seanc9507 Shoplifting to me would be less damaging than pickpocketing but you still pay for shoplifting. Prices go up. Insurance companies charge more and charge everyone. But picking pockets is bad. People lose their vacation money and debit/credit cards. They lose passports which they have to replace. They have their phones taken. They might lose sentimental items. Nobody likes to lose their stuff. Or more accurately have it taken from them. They replace what they can but it's money that they should not have to be spending. It's not as serious as taking a life. It's not a physical assault but it's hurtful. People can feel violated. There is no excuse for it.
and risk being targeted for terror by the syndicate? usually these pickpockets have a syndicate behind them and if you become the "whistle-blower", you might be in for a rough time
wtf??!!! the 1st lady was followed for an eternity and she doesn't even know (what more realise someone was ruffling through her bag).. and the 3rd guy (with raincoat) was sooooo numb.. the kid seemed to be touching his pockets and taking his phone from the raincoat (what was he doing putting it there anyway?) quite rough.. i would think anybody would feel that.. and yet he didn't know??!!! the 2nd kid though, damn he was smooth and fast.. that teaches the lady to be more careful with her belongings next time (and not use a handbag that is so easily opened)
honestly i can't blame these people for not noticing the pickpocketers because you have different things going on in your mind when heading somewhere. like whether you're gonna make it on time or something... i don't think anyone would remind themselves the possibility of getting pickpocketed before taking a step outside every single morning.
@@sifavural4510 Yes that's true.. but you should be more careful there.. especially since Milano is notorious for its pickpockets (at least that's what i read or hear)

Backpackers and those who drag their trolleys are asking to be robbed. NEVER put valuables in a backpack. Better still never carry one. Use a 4 wheeler trolley and make sure you push it as much as possible on all 4 wheels. Frequently look behind you. If find someone following you, step sharply to one side and turn slightly.
@@seanc9507 we had a teacher once whos wallet I really wanted to steal because it would have been so easy since she always put her purse wide open and unattended. But I did not want to do it in my daily life risking that everybody I know knows of my little hobby…
True, not worth the risk of getting caught if others know if your hobby. Besides, considering how much teachers make, who knows if the payoff would have been worth it! 😜
Agreed. This teacher in question is someone I liked and was good to me; even more so, she didn't mind me demonstrating to her why her trench coat pockets were susceptible to being picked. Just before I graduated from high school, I showed her that keeping a multitude of items inside them causes the pocket to bulge outward. Under her very nose, I had slipped her keys, gum and paycheck (!) without detection from her pocket. That completely blew her away...as I returned those items, she was shaking her head and uttering , "I'll think twice before storing anything important in there!"

put a mouse catcher on your pockets and see if they'd even dare to put those filthy hands of theirs inside.😂

Indeed! When they're not on the streets, they probably pick each other's pockets for practice! 😉
