Just found this video and what a great review from 2020 on a car that I'm looking at purchasing. Fantastic info with great humour and detail. This video should have 100k + views!
Great Review. Had an A250e for about a month now. Travelled 700miles and still have a quarter tank of fuel as just running in Electric mode! Amazing savings and cool driving assistance package for such a small car. Great job.
Damn, you're doing really well with that fuel consumption. My last trip in another car has been 350 miles on 100 liters of fuel and I wasn't even going fast.
@@VToldsMotoShow Thanks. Most of my journeys are around 30-40miles max. Wall Charger at work is free to use so lots of savings. A250e is a perfect choice for me.
I got a A-class with the 1.3 engine (A200) and its a great engine. Performance, mpg etc. And its not a Renault-engine as the MB-haters say. The engine is assembled in the Kölleda engine plant in Germany (the Renault version of the engine is assembled in the UK and Spain.). The hybrid was not available when I ordered my A-class back in 2019 but maybe its time for a upgrade...
I'm glad that you're happy with your engine choice. This powertrain here wasn't lacking really anything in this Hybrid version. Really agile and pleasant to drive.
I absolutely love mine! Aggressive and stylish enough on the exterior, efficient enough to take me from home to work and back on a single charge using an overnight charge and recuperation. There is enough space in the boot for our family luggage, and in the back seats for my two toddlers. The great centre of gravity really helps it grip! The interior speaks for itself. The only bugs I have found are, WHY WOULD YOU NOT HAVE A SKIP TRACK FUNCTION ON A STEERING?!?! AND HOW DOES MERCEDES PUT THE WRONG DOOR INSERT INTO MY NEW CAR?!?! Yes I have a constant rattling because the manufacturing line apparently fitted the wrong insulation inserts into the front doors 🤦♂️🤣
Now that's funny what you said about the rattling. Just have them fix it, but still - that's kind of weird. As for the next track function, I'll tell you this - I'm coming back from testing the new S-Class. There you don't even have a knob with volume setting but a touch "button" that you may press. I tried a few times and quick adjustment results in making it silent or super loud. Be glad that your still has a rotary wheel on the central panel. Let's see if they listen to owners and change these things when updating their cars.
I just got my cla 250e if you put your music in the centre of the display screen you are able to skip tracks, us the square select button and swipe up and down to change track. my only dissatisfaction was that Mercedes took out the lights in headrests and rear foot wells with the ambient lighting package
@@leewickins1853 thanks very much. I found this out recently when I realised I had done it by accident 🤦♂️ it really is a peculiar touch sensitive button. I don't know what it is... Size? Shape? Positioning? Maybe I'm still getting used to it lol. Thanks once again though.
Got a Shooting Brake coming in April, can't wait. Test drove one nice car, bigger boot that you would think and not too much smaller than the Skoda Superb hatch hybrid boot and bigger than a C Class estate hybrid.
Yes, I do. I just don't believe they would be true for a normal user during normal driving. During my driving it rocketed to around 10-12 liters per 100 km in the city. But I was pushing the car a lot and had many stops with an engine running. I'd expect it to normally be rather between 6-9 liters depending on driving conditions and style in the city. If you brake slowly, you will recover more energy that you will be able to use for driving later, so here you can get a lot more than in a normal car if you try to. If you don't try and instead race with everybody, gains will not be that significant.
Thanks for the very informative review, How is car doing consumption wise in long trips? Normally I drive 6000km to my home country and back, wondering if this car can handle that and a cost efficie nt way... most of the figures I found online are avereged values per 100km which are not necessarily accurate for long trips
I wish I could give you a reliable answer but I drove much less than 6000 km and mostly in the city. I believe that this is not the best solution for longer rides as it has a small petrol engine that will want its fuel and there won't be many benefits of a hybrid powertrain. It's not that efficient and successful in recharging its batteries. For such trips, nothing will beat a diesel - I mean driving on a highway. And you're right that a measurement of consumption per 100 km will mean nothing to you as it assumes 100% charged battery, so only whatever is left will be covered in majority on petrol.
Great review ! Just two questions please if i may.....would you go for this ahead of the BMW 330e ? And does the Merc electric engine re charge itself during driving ( eg. if you stay in petrol mode ), so that you could have full electric charge say after a medium/long journey as the 330e does ?
Thanks. So you're asking me for my personal opinion and comparing to BMW 330e, I would go for a BMW as it's a car from a higher segment. Just as I would go for a MB C-Class if I had to choose between it and a BMW 1 or 2-Series. The CLA's engine does recharge the battery when you're driving and also gets the power back when you're braking. However, it's not that super efficient here in this car. I've seen cars that do it better.
Using both battery / fuel tank how many miles can this car travel without charging and refuelling???? Isn’t 40miles a very short journey before it dies out?
Hi, thank you for your kind words. I believe that an answer to your question strictly depends on a specific market. I'm pretty sure that there are quite a few CLA 250e units within every market on dealers' stocks. As for cars to be configured, I don't have the knowledge here as that may depend in a large part on a specification of a car. I suggest you shoot an e-mail to a few dealers asking them how long it is now.
This might seem like a very silly question but im currently in the process of ordering a car and I'm between this and a model 3 long range, I think my concern with the model 3 is range anxiety, I guess what I'm asking is which would you pick (price difference doesn't matter so much as it is a company lease vehicle)
Nice to have such a choice! But I understand your concerns so the real question would be how big of an issue the range anxiety may be in your case. In other words - this strictly depends on where you live (and perhaps whether it's a house with a charging station or an apartment with/without a charging station; or you're regularly going to your office and would charge the car there) and how much you drive. If not for the range anxiety, I'd definitely go for the Tesla even without having driven it, as it's more fancy, performance of the Model 3 is fantastic regardless of a version and it's likely going to be more fun overall. On the other hand, interior quality will probably be so much nicer in the Mercedes. Design-wise, it looks so much better than Tesla inside too. The performance isn't that impressive though. However, with the Benz you don't need to care about range anxiety. Now if you don't plug and charge it, it won't give you a lot of benefits of driving on electricity I believe. It's not that good at charging itself back (if you care about it since it's a company car). I'd say if not for the range anxiety, I'd definitely go for the Tesla, so if you're having a preference for Tesla, we are basically in the same spot looking at this matter.
@@VToldsMotoShow brilliant response, thanks for taking the time to give such a detailed answer, I think due to having a 7kw charger installed at my home the Tesla is the winner and in reality my journeys are always sub 300 mile round trips so shouldn't have much issue with the range, I think that initial jump to full electric is just a bit daunting to begin with but I'm sure I will love the car once it is delivered!
Hi, I don't know but perhaps if you ask a dealer telling them that it's about a 2020 MY from a EU market, they might be able to tell. Or even send some MB used car sales guy the video with an inquiry. Otherwise I'm not sure how we can find out now.
Thank you. I've been driving very aggressively and having the car idling with an engine on for some time and ended up with around 10 liters per 100 km/h with an empty battery. Normally I'd say you should easily get down to 6-9 liters in the city with an empty battery depending on how you drive.

I ended up with around 23,5 MPG (10 liters per 100 km). However this was driving very aggressively, mostly after using all electricity and also with longer time periods of standing in a few spots with an engine running and heating on. So that's an answer which in fact doesn't really help. Finally, I just could not check that during my days with the car as I've spent limited with it. Note that I also tested its performance (see the video in the link) and that "slightly" affected fuel economy results.

New rules I guess. But seriously, simply when working together, some of the power is delivered to other things that performance. I just don't know which engine produces less power then, my guess would be that the electric one. Especially that there may be a situation when we drain the battery and it should not happen that we're suddenly left with only 160 HP while being used to more - let's say during overtaking. So I believe that some power is always stored in the batteries even when it shows that there's 0% charge left. That's why it won't ever use it perhaps.
There may be some logic behind it though in terms of getting rid of the features that lower the efficiency. All wheel drive being one of such features in cars.

Especially that there may be a situation when we drain the battery and it should not happen that we're suddenly left with only 160 HP while being used to more - let's say during overtaking. So I believe that some power is always stored in the batteries even when it shows that there's 0% charge left. That's why it won't ever use it perhaps.
Plz tell me on road price?
It depends on a the market (country) that you want to buy it in.

It annoys me that one can have hybrid or 4matic, but not both together.
There may be some logic behind it though in terms of getting rid of the features that lower the efficiency. All wheel drive being one of such features in cars.
Its a fantastic car
Now I can say that I do confirm that!
The interior of the car was filthy. A good valet costs only 50€
If the ground is dirty, every time you get back inside, the dirt is carried inside too.
Wait, the engine is 1.3L??? This on highway? no thanks, must be like 15L/100km..
Also, this is full specced AMG model..
I am driving the A250e since one year. Have done 15000 km so far. Even when I am pushing hard at full speed on german Autobahn it hardly consumes more than 9l/100km
@@podunkman2709 between 5 and 6 depends on the topography. However it is definitely not made for regular long haul trips. The tiny petrol tank is quite annoying.
@@podunkman2709 it is strongly focused on urban commutes. However the overall consumption is not that bad but it can‘t keep up with a modern Diesel.
@@podunkman2709 thanks mate! Same to you!
I disagee - clumsy and cumbersome- the handling was dire …
