- Here's a baseline video of different types of alpine climbing footwear, this covers all the ranges from alpine rock, snow, and ice climbing. I didn't talk about rock climbing shoes since I have a different video about it. This is suppose to be a supplement video to help you with picking the correct footwear for your objective.

Nice video. My feet were a little too cold on baker last time. I used the rental LA sportiva boots. I'm going to probably end up getting the g2 for next time. It took me 2 months to get the feeling back in one of my toes. Lol

@@richardarmstrong1707 No , not yet. I am going in July too, near Chamonix but with family. My plan is for next year I have to buy all equipment first, not much left but still. My bigest problem is that I don’t have partner so I have to take guide.
Very helpful. I hope to hike Mt. Rainier in July and am still not sure what boots to get. I would like to get the 3/4 shank boots (lighter) but might go with the full now.

I got a pair of scarpa ribellle tech od boots I was so excited to use them and found they are NOT wayerprooof at all and kind of unusable I was hoping to use them on Ranier - would these be a good choice for Ranier in summer?
Would you start a Denali or Aconcagua trek with a double boot and switch to a 8k boot at higher elevation, or start with a lighter boot and switch to the 8k boot earlier. Great video, thanks!

very interesting mate. some awesome boots you have. Keep those toes warm. i was wondering ,i know you said they are crampon compatible,can you also attach them to x country skis some how.or do you need yet another boot? this is all stuff i know zero about.
Gizmo's Adventures hey man, no sadly you can’t attach any of these boots to skis, that’s actually a big whole in the market if you were thinking about getting into the outdoor industry haha. La Sportiva did just come out with a new boot that does connect to backcountry touring skis but only on the toe for skiing up the slope not skiing down hopefully someday we’ll have skis that you can clip fully into climbing boots

I am not getting into mountaineering. I am big into hiking, and I want to do more winter hiking here in the harsh Canadian Rockies, gets down to - 40C/F. I get cold feet bad, so I just bought some beefy Baffin snow boots, but they arent really designed for hiking. I could try, but I don't think ill manage in them. I might struggle with putting on microspikes, and I don't think my universal crampons will even fit on them -- Not that I really need the crampons as that's really a worst case scenario thing as I mentioned, Im not trying to go mountaineering. So, Im wondering if I should get a mountaineering boot. Preferably a double boot like in your last boot. There is a new La Sportiva G-Summit coming out. Wondering if I should consider this for my winter hiking boot. The highest Id honestly climb is about 2500m, as anything higher is going to be more technical, and not safe in winter.
Thoughts on the appropriate boot for rainier near end of June ?
For most folks going with a single boot that can fit a full automatic crampon will work. Having a gator to add on will also help keeping your foot warm, or you can pay the extra money and get a boot with the gator built onto it.

Would you use the nepal boot for something like hiking mount whitney in late june?
if you really like a beefy boot, you could use them for the non-trail non technical routes (north slope, west slope, mountaineers) but a boot closer to the below the nepals would be a more popular boot for those routes I think. Nepals on the trail route don't seem very beneficial, probably just slow you down, imo.
Ya, a better boot for Whitney would be something like a sturdy hiking boot. You’re spending a lot more time on dirt and the path than snow so if your boot doesn’t have any flex you can easily get blisters. I would go with a lightweight boot with some ankle support.
Your thoughts on a boot for a 3000m peak that’s also around -5c in the winter
I would usually go with a 6000m boot for something like that, like the G2 SM’s or the phantom 6000’s

I'm new, and would be doing more 3000-4000m peaks, but can be anywhere from -10 to -20C at summit in the Canadian Rockies. Curious if the boot with gaiter would do, or a double would be better for my first boot.

@@michaelfrymus I’m new as well, will be using Nepal cubes with gaiters. Even though our mountains are not that tall, mountaineering here is very difficult 😂 our snow conditions are some of the “worst”
