How is he as a protection dog?

He is a civil dog and shows excellent instincts, but we have not trained him in that regard yet. Life was tough this last year, but I will be working him soon.

    American Sentinel K9, LLC,
Handsome dog! Thank you very much for sharing.
I have one question though. Could he live outside in a kennel/dog house in cold climates such as in Alaska?
Thank you very much in advance for taking the time to answer my question.

No. They don't have an undercoat. That's all the hair you're gonna see. If you want a cold weather dog with tons of muscles and guarding instincts, get an alabai. They love the cold.

Depends on the dog house. They do good down to zero but when you get 20-30 below they will likely be frozen unless you have a well designed dog house

Thank you very much for your reply.
Yes, you are right, Alabais are great dogs. Unfortunately, they are not suited for a life in a city. They are bred to be independent and are very dog aggressive. Just going for a walk with them poses real problems. Other than that, they are almost ideal dogs.
However, American Sentinel Bandogs are very good too. They seem to have good nerves, seem to be good family dogs, and are athletic and brave (they are also used for hog hunting). They are not as strong or adaptable to different climates as Alabais, but they are easier to handle.
Midguardmastiffs produces a very good compromise between the Alabais and the American Sentinel Bandogs: Dogs with double coats that are very large (although Alabais can be much larger than 150 or 160 pounds) with features similar to those of American Sentinel Bandogs (can be used for hunting and personal protection). Unfortunately, some of their dogs drool. Moreover, although Alabais have a double coat, they can live in very hot climates too (most probably due to natural selection in environments with extreme seasonal changes in temperature). By contrast, most other dog breeds that thrive in cold weather cannot handle hot weather and vice versa.

@@JohnSmith-qy3nv Size definitely helps in cold weather. I would not recommend a breeding of one of our smaller dogs, but off our bigger dogs, it should be fine with a good dog house. Just be mindful and use good common sense.
