Wales also only completed only one game of the championship in 1897 and two in 1898 as fallout from the "Gould Affair". Arthur Gould was Welsh rugby's first superstar, leading Wales to their first title and Triple Crown in 1893 and captaining Wales in 18 tests (a stat not broken until Ieuan Evans in 1994). He retired on Jan 9th 1897 (against England) and the WFU supported a testimonial in his honour (i believe the proceeds were used to purchase him a house). The IRFB argued this constituted professionalism so the WFU withdrew in protest. They rejoined the following year on the condition that Gould would never represent Wales again. However, the SRU was still aggrieved at the situation and refused to play Wales in 1898.

That’s really interesting!! Scotland seem to enjoy not playing the other teams 🤣

Yeah to be fair to us, we had WW1, a 7 year ban from the 5 Nations & WW2 in between our OG inclusion in 1910 and our first win in the tournament lmfao.
Btw fun fact : France won a Grand Slam in 2010 and it was funnily enough the 100th anniversary of our inclusion in the 5 Nations as well lol.

6:20 It just had to be. Scotland will Scotland regardless of century. I love my country... and I hate my country. Insert trainspotting meme here ->

France first won the 5N in 1954 on 25th attempt. To match that, Italy should have won the 6N last year which they didn't although it was arguably their best ever showing in the competition. Corrected that for you. Still enjoyable video though.

Honestly I still bear a rugby grudge against Wales and Scotland for not fulfilling their games in Ireland. And conversely respect England (rugby-wise). I'd rather England win anything than the other two.
