    Nice video man. I’ve got some generic ITX motherboards that have only one or two pcie slots, usually an x16 and an x1. Given that a splitter with four pcie risers is about the same price as 6 pcie risers, it makes using motherboards for a small four of five GPU rig viable

    Great idea to test the splitter, however I doubt anyone would need to use it on a Mb that can support 13 gpus anyway. What would be really useful is to know if you can use it on a Mb with 3 pci slots and get 12 gpus mining on it for a day or so and check the accepted share % at the pool, that’d be awesome!

    i just learned ... some motherboards, have a weird limitation, it would only run with up to 4 cards no matter what. board used was asus b360. it would not boot with 2nd 4-1 splitter and a card attached. would boot with 4-1 spillter with 4 cards, and a splitter in second pcie1 slot (with no cards attached).

  • @tymekmm215
    @tymekmm215 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    you have to connect them to separate pcie controllers, means find PCIE slots on separate chipset, than there is no lags in the system, I am using those devices from 2017 and only problem is that metal cooler going out of the card after 2 years, thermal past with glue and all is working nice, sometimes if rig have not enough air flow around those cards they are going too hot and starting throttling

    • @volvo09
      @volvo09 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Old post, but in case it helps anyone you can plug these into any pcix slot.
      It looks "weird" if you plug it into the large 16x slot, but it will work just fine. The card dosen't use all the communication lanes, so it dosen't need to be as big.
      Hope that helps.

    People told me that this couldn't be done with an Athlon 3000g as it only supports 6 pcie lanes, but I had no trouble in the process. I don't remember exactly what BIOS settings I changed, but I tried to disable everything like SATA ports, HD audio, etc and enabled 4g decoding.

    TBH i am not really interested in mining or GPUs, i think one GPU is fine. But i'm envisioning a dockable computer enclosure consisting of two parts, the top would be the actual PC with a GPU, and the bottom could be... just an enclosure full of stuff. Being able to throw one PCIe connection over on an extender between the two, and then have a splitter in the bottom, driving all sort of... things, maybe extra mass storage, maybe soundcards, maybe capture cards, maybe PCIe to PCI bridge, these sorts of things, things that are kind of "optional" making the bottom enclosure a "dock" and the top one a "LAN box". I don't feel i really need this but it might just be something i would like to build for the heck of it.

    Hi Sebs, I am using this PCIE splitter card in my laptop's M.2 interface which is PCIE X16 with a M.2 to PCIE adapter, it works good, but now I am not satisfied with four GPU cards, I would like to know could the second PCIe splitter card plug in previous one? Just like a tree structure, 1-to-4, then 4-to-16, then 16-to-64, of course not so many actually. I don't know if you have done this experiment, if you have a try, I hope to see in your reply.

      Also, go in your BIOS, disable everything you don't need, serial port, etc. I ran into the same issue when I rebuilt a rig and put it all back together in different slots. Add a card, let windows find it, restart, verify its still there, shut down, add card 2, turn on, let windows find it, restart, verify, repeat until you hit your max. It's tedious but will save you hours of trouble shooting. I have 3 of the same boards with 11 cards each. 2 of the 4-to-1 adapters per board reviewed here and they work! This is a great video by the way!

    Only just found this.
    i bought one of these as I have a bunch of old hp office machines, but couldnt make it even work with more than 1 card.
    From what I could tell it was down to the mobo not supplying enough power out of the pcie slot. (I was using it out a pcie16 slot in my tests).
    I was using some fairly old mobos (old hp pro 3500 office machines).
    I suspect if it was a better mobo or one of the ones with pcie power sockets I might have gotten better results but then the mobo would likely have enough pcie slots.

I had switched the usb cables around as I was having trouble getting the rig to post. Hive seemed to confused the gpu order i think because of these boards, and flashed the wrong bios to the wrong cards even though it looked right in the GUI...kind of a major hive bug. Now I am trying to unbrick these 4 GPUs totally bummed. So watch out for that if using these when bios modding.

    Hey Buddy, I hope you can help answer my question please: I have a brand new Rig with MSI B360 motherboard and I bought 1 Non-LHR MSI RTX3070 GPU connected directly to the motherboard (no rizers yet) powered from the PSU directly. But while testing both Phoenix Miner and T-rex on windows 10, the hashrate is fluctuating between 58mh/s and 62mh/s. I also have MSI afterburner OC set exactly as i have it on my other rigs. In your experience do you know if this MSI 3070 could be the issue or perhaps the MB bios needs updating? Appreciate your help

    can i use more than 1 adapter on same motherboard? i mean i have 3 pcie slot mobo, so can i add two of these in order to get more slots?

    • @Nikon285
      @Nikon285 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, on a board with 6 slots you can put them in any slot although I use the two bigger slots but I've seen no difference in performance with 1660 Supers, 1660 Ti, 1070 Ti or 2070 Super. Max number of cards I can get my boards to boot with is 11. Add a 12th and no post on any board. Completely negates the need for the m.2 to pcie adapters I have in each board which originally got me to 7 per board. I'm running 3 msi z370-pros(still available on Amazon) so it's probably a resource limit. I've finally run out of money buying and building rigs so now I'll start doing videos lol.

  • @eternablue730
    @eternablue730 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Wait but there must be a limit to this 1-4 riser right, coz if not you could have one of those mining boards and that splitter on each, that would be like 30 - 40 gpu's per rig, even if you had that luch cpu lanes
