  • When you are talking classics, you have to throw in the Royal Trude. This is a gorgeous pattern, fun to fish, and effective as Hell. It gets its "royal" name due to the shiny red floss surrounded by dark green peacock herl.
    For the tails, you will want to turn to fibers from a Golden Pheasant feather. These are simply striking feathers. Once the tails are in place, and the floss is properly surrounded by peacock, you can move onto the wing.
    The wing will be calf - I prefer body hair rather than the tail - that extends over the top of the fly's abdomen and will reach a little beyond the hook bend. Make sure you save some space at the front because the pattern finishes with clean wraps of a brown hackle feather.
