No-one deals with subtlety of emotion like Sondheim. He goes from the raw powerful emotion of a declaration of love to the gentle caress, all in his music. He is an absolute genius. You hear in the strings the contrast of excitement and trepidation in the scene, with the resolve at the very end, in scene and music. Sondheim cannot be matched. Evans' voice is also stunning

Astonishing performance by Daniel Evans and Jenna Russell. Thanks so much for posting this for those of us who couldn't see the original broadcast.

I saw these two on Broadway and they were sensational. I can't make a comparison to any other pairings, but they hold a special place in my heart.

Simply stunning. I love the Peters and Patinkin version shown on PBS but each is stunning in their own way. I think these two make you feel it more.

Such an emotional Piece, and The kiss at the end- just does it perfectly! :)

@hanshandslover sending those fists and random objects. To me this is just like two hired voices (certainly technically correct in their execution.) The singing by Peters/Patinkin has so much more emotion. but then again, I'm an American
