Man you have so much knowledge, you can tell your just a real production guy. I know it was only uploaded today but this tutorial is underrated, so much you can learn. Also "Cry for a dreamer" is one of my fave The Sylver's tracks, another one I've also sampled haha. Dope!
I appreciate the fact your giving back man, I'm definitely gonna keep following and keep learning! I learnt so much within the first few minutes, definitely got me inspired. And I guess I was referring to one of the references I guess, although I was positive it was cry for a dreamer haha. Thanks for your work though, your dope!
Hey man, just wanted to show my appreciation. It's not often I come across tutorials that have stuff about Ableton that I didn't know about but you showed me a tonne of stuff right here. Thanks.
Second time I watched this today. That crossfade function is bananas. Shit is about to get stupid. The creative potential with that is endless. Thank you for the hack
Dropping jewels MG... good looking out! Smooth fades that doesn't just completely choke out the sound and sound abrupt or short. I like that method better. Finesse. I have been wondering how that's supposed to be done and still sound natural and organic.
automation mixed with beat repeats/looper would do it, there's a really cool way of doing it if you do menu diving and you can sync it so it only reacts when it hits 1/64 when using midi but i dont know what it's called
Thanks man I thought the side chaining was explained real good here and I now understand what its doing better and its use , big ups ima go make a beat
Great, great tutorial! Thanks! Did Dila use diferent hihats in the same grooves? Is there a way to change hihat sound using the FLO with the filter in Simpler? May be it could give a more human feel to the groove. What do you think?
BEAT THANG DOES ALL THE ABLETON SLICE STUFF and compression DIDNT REALISE HOW DOPE IT WAS BUT ANT WAY NICE VIDEO MORE PLEASE sorry about the cap lock to lazy to erase.
My man. Super sweet musical and technical video. So dope! At 3 or 4 seconds into this video, there's a knocking sound kind of on the left side with some verb. So sick! I was wondering how you got that sounds, what kind of reverb, your panning tech. and etc. It sits so well in this track. Thanks. Big big ups!!
hey man nice tutorial, i learned stuff although im logic usin :p but can you or someone else tell me if there is a similar feature in logic to apply a groove from a certain pattern? like what you did in 6:20
This video was suggested when I was on Matthew Weiss's scam video. And you are definitely USEFUL, while he blablabla useless shit for money. Keep this spirit, keep this sound!
Jewels man! Now I want Ableton to intergrate with Maschine! Can you record vocals with ableton or no? I have Maschine 2.4.6.4 + Logic Pro X latest version
for tap tempo I was closer to 100... Is there a way to get more chops on a sample using the maschine? For instance, there is only 16 pads but if I wanted to utilize more and maybe extend them into a different group is that possible?
Hey, your tuts have upped a lot. Props but I see you have automation on your faders. I'm sure you know but you can use a Utility insert and automate it's gain while retaining control of those faders. Just an idea but thanks -m
The disadvantage of Utility is that it only goes to -35dB. You can always put two in series though so, if the first one is set to -35dB, the second one will go to +35dB (yielding unity gain) then pull you down an additional -35dB (yielding -70dB). But yeah, the Trim plugin in Pro Tools seems more obvious for some reason. I subbed to MG just now too so I look forward to seeing Utility in action soon :)
where does a sampler come into this workflow?? like once u finish this song, do you put the song into a sampler to get that lo fi?? seems like u can do it all just in ableton. great tutorial. thanks!
Hey, am planning to get ableton live (the software not the machine)..I have never used it before but I find it interesting, Since you've used it, can you tell me what to expect (do's & don'ts if it's not too much to ask)..Response will be appreciated Bro..
With all the new tech you would have thought chopping samples and the workflow would be easier and faster. I have a MPC2000 and use Ableton Live and for me the sampling and chopping is easy and fast on the MPC and with the limitations it has it makes you carefully take time on getting the samples right that fit. Of course it sounds waaaay better on drums that any DAW. Good video. Thanks.
NIMMHATV What ever works for you. I used to have the Akai mod pads with Logic pro and then ableton live. Always remember by having the latest software to does translate to making better beats.Have fun.
want to check my beats and tell me what im doing right and what im doing wrong? i need some critics from people who actually can hear what i want to do.
All your tut's are killer bro. short and sweet, and still descriptive. Question: if you use maschine and ableton, which one you like more? I use logic and maschine, but I've been thinking about switching to ableton, or just updating my maschine
can you upload the groove you created from the hats? i didnt get the part where you said you sidechain everything/sidechain everything to the kick. Did you drag another compressor to the mixer and sidechained audio from to the sample or audio from to the kick? Sorry if my question isnt clear. i just noticed only the kick being sidechained
Yes, he set up the Compressor for the track with Samples, to be Sidechained by the Kick. (so anytime the kick plays, the compressor on the sampletrack start doing its work) Then for all other tracks he made sure, the compressors were sidechained to the Kick . In this video he put it on the Synth, Bass and vocalchops i think. So he had 4 compressors on different tracks that were sidechained to the Kick.
Thanks. I appreciate the help from both of you. Can you do a pete rock version of this next? like how he gets his horns like that and uses multiple samples in one beat.
Great video but I'm wondering since dilla didn't have ableton at the time , can that crossfade technique be done on another software like maschine? or is just possible in Daws like ableton?
HoraTV My understanding is that at the time that he did Donuts, he was using nothing more than 45 records, a player and a Roland SP-303 sampler. Like, that's it.
I like your tutorials a lot. I just want to state a general opinion about music. Im into Hip Hop since 23 years, i see the tools getting better and better, but IMO the music gets worse. Why is that?
Thats easy to figure it out. Because everybody can "produce" an record his music with cheap programms at home without a studio and a producer. I just say FL studio... :( and today everybody makes Trap so it sounds very similar. I'm missing the Dipset Style
You need to check out Metro Boomin, Zaytoven, Mike Will, 808 mafia because they're stepping up with some incredibly creative and unique new stuff. Just because mainstream hip hop is changing course doesn't mean that it's getting worse. Even oldschool hip hop is still going strong with people like Alchemist, Knxwledge, etc.
Prof.Dr.DriVeBy Is it better to have music production available cheaply for everyone who wants to try it either as a hobby or profession, or sacrifice hella cash and time like in the old days? Come on, guy.
Because trap is the current wave. Thats what most kids want to make now. And i honestly dont think a daw gives you the same creativity as working in the box on an mpc or other hardware samplers.
James Coone dude You learned how to do it the new way. Let’s be positive. I’m sure it’s someone out there with a turntable and mixer with three eq’s. MG hacks time. Most of those great sample records you hear are made from the actual stems from the masters.
It's crazy how many overlaps there are in samples. I was working on a beat for months after taking breaks from it, to slowly realise Madlib used the same sample in a beat tape years ago. I didn't realise at first cause I had reversed the sample and pitched it lower than what Madlib pitched it at. Seeing how producers use the same samples in different ways is so interesting
fantastic explanation, still 8 years later
You are doing more for us than anyone right now. Many thanks.
Can you check out my beats and tell me what you think. I appreciate it
Yeah he dropped jewels right off the rip.
Wow that Simpler chopping demo with the "thru" setting is brilliant. Thank you for that
Man you have so much knowledge, you can tell your just a real production guy. I know it was only uploaded today but this tutorial is underrated, so much you can learn. Also "Cry for a dreamer" is one of my fave The Sylver's tracks, another one I've also sampled haha. Dope!

Ah ok dude my bad I got confused. Yeah I'll def check it out, thanks again
Hey man, just wanted to show my appreciation. It's not often I come across tutorials that have stuff about Ableton that I didn't know about but you showed me a tonne of stuff right here. Thanks.
Great tutorial fam! I'm actually looking at more Dilla-esque beat production techniques and you hit the nail on the head! Keep bringing that flavor!
Thanks a lot for this MG, I follow maschinemasters heavily and this is up there with one of my favorite tutorials. Good looking out.
Keep doing your thing. We need people like you.
of of the best tutorials out here
Second time I watched this today. That crossfade function is bananas. Shit is about to get stupid. The creative potential with that is endless. Thank you for the hack
Can you check out my beats and tell me what you think. I appreciate it
I've learned more from two of your videos, then all my googling for endless nights...
THANK YOU!
Old but *GOLD.* I remember watching this when it first came out. lol.
yo just the websites and stuff in the beginning is a ton of great info for beginners like me, keep it up this is amazing
Dropping jewels MG... good looking out! Smooth fades that doesn't just completely choke out the sound and sound abrupt or short. I like that method better. Finesse. I have been wondering how that's supposed to be done and still sound natural and organic.
The cross fader is one of the best features on Live, I like to offset the main beat and cut to the offset beat to create fills
Best Dilla tutorial out there!
The video is very well made and easy to follow along and understand.
You sir, are a rock star.
This video is literally unreal. Couldn't be more helpful!
Great Job! Keep up the Great work! Stay safe out there.
this is the most productive tutorial i've seen
You should also explain your glitch/delay effect. Shit's dope
yassssssss your an internet god
so where can one find that video about that glitch/Delay effect?
automation mixed with beat repeats/looper would do it, there's a really cool way of doing it if you do menu diving and you can sync it so it only reacts when it hits 1/64 when using midi but i dont know what it's called
If you fuck with the stylus rmx chaos settings you'll get an identical effect but with their kits
This was great man! Nice job explaining and demonstrating them crazy techniques.
Thanks so much for this tutorial, I had no idea about the play through option on the simpler. Subscribed
Great video man!! ;) keep it up!!
real dope beats and an informative video, I'm using fruity loops but I really feel like this taught me a thing or two
Thanks man I thought the side chaining was explained real good here and I now understand what its doing better and its use , big ups ima go make a beat
definitely got J DILLA VIBE and BOUNCE Great Job!!!
Great, great tutorial! Thanks! Did Dila use diferent hihats in the same grooves? Is there a way to change hihat sound using the FLO with the filter in Simpler? May be it could give a more human feel to the groove. What do you think?
How can I do what he did at 12:00 on an MPC1000? It's all I got rn, but I wanna figure out
Can you check out my beats and tell me what you think. I appreciate it
Ok so that cross fade trick completely blew my mind and is my new favorite thing about ableton. Thank you for this video!!
thats a dope track right there with the crossfade section :D loving it
Dope tutorial gonna start making beats in my new crib using this thanx and keep up the good work greetz from Holland👍🏽
this is a super dope tutorial bro
the sample @17:12 is the sample used in drip too hard by lil baby and gunna
So many gems in this tut!!!! Thank you so much for sharing
wow thanks a lot I can't wait until the internet at my crib is fixed so I can start using the ideas from these videos
can you do a video on how to sample an old school 70s record and chop it up into a drum rack.
BEAT THANG DOES ALL THE ABLETON SLICE STUFF and compression DIDNT REALISE HOW DOPE IT WAS BUT ANT WAY NICE VIDEO MORE PLEASE sorry about the cap lock to lazy to erase.

Thank you so much for this! Such a great tutorial!
is there a difference between the polyphony being set to 1 and a pad being on choke 1 in maschine?
Why not just use the Tap button on the maschine to get the tempo of the sample instead of using all8? It's the same thing, or am I missing something?
Great video!
wow based video, thank you for all of the tips :)
dope vid, gotta comeback a couple times to understand the cross fade and side chaining but thanks 👌
hey man nice tutorial, i learned stuff although im logic usin :p but can you or someone else tell me if there is a similar feature in logic to apply a groove from a certain pattern?

MG!!! whaddup doe!
Mindblowing... Thank ya sir!
Jewels man! Now I want Ableton to intergrate with Maschine! Can you record vocals with ableton or no? I have Maschine 2.4.6.4 + Logic Pro X latest version
Think a Dilla-esque sound is achievable on the mpc one?
Can't wait for this!!!😬
does anyone have unmix drums free download link i love making soul beats but im broke af and that shit is to expensive
awesome demo!
for tap tempo I was closer to 100... Is there a way to get more chops on a sample using the maschine? For instance, there is only 16 pads but if I wanted to utilize more and maybe extend them into a different group is that possible?

Does zyneptic work in general or do you have to use Albetron?
Is this mg the future?
Kind of off topic here, but can you tell me what "screen recording" software you're using to create this video? Just curious..thanks!
love your drums
Realy usefull tutorial, could you tell us what drums did you used in this video?
One of the dopest Tutorials i've ever seen - congrats. Quick question: Which program did you use to create the baseline ?
Ok, anything to reccomend about wav bass packs? I struggle with it, because i simply cannot find good, clean boom bap/dilla style basses.
+MG The Future OK thanks man, cannot wait for more videos like this to come !
this info blew my mind
Great video bro!
whats the beat in the beginning bruh that shit is fiya
agreed that is dope and original.
.... like could u do all this on mpc software??
Man, nice class!
Thank you for share...
PleaseShow me how and where to do this in fl I luv the ja yes style of switching samples in and out
where can i get some dope samples/sounds? I know Big Fish Audio has a lot.
Can u do one for fl using this techniques
bonjour
what s the sample in the end of the video please.
Great tutorial. Thanks!
where does a sampler come into this workflow??
like once u finish this song, do you put the song into a sampler to get that lo fi??
seems like u can do it all just in ableton.
great tutorial. thanks!
Which version of ableton is this
Also why use tap tempo online instead of on Ableton? Or Maschine?
Hey, am planning to get ableton live (the software not the machine)..I have never used it before but I find it interesting, Since you've used it, can you tell me what to expect (do's & don'ts if it's not too much to ask)..Response will be appreciated Bro..

***** Every DAW is much more powerful than a MPC. The MPC is a different beast altogether.
use a DAW and some Akai Drum pads! :) u have both the MPC-feeling AND u can use the DAW of your choice.. thats how do it :)
NIMMHATV What ever works for you. I used to have the Akai mod pads with Logic pro and then ableton live. Always remember by having the latest software to does translate to making better beats.Have fun.
yes! :)
want to check my beats and tell me what im doing right and what im doing wrong? i need some critics from people who actually can hear what i want to do.
what version of ableton is this? my simpler looks whack and nothing like this
A n B was a nice look bro

I have ableton live 9 and my simpler does not look or act like that. Not sure what i'm doing wrong here.
Q- tip does that with a record player and a 12 inch. I love that feature in simpler

thanks for the tip on Unmix. have you heard or had any problems with latency playback in new Maschine update? mine lags...but is fine in Live.
Was that an Al Jerreu sample ...
Do u still use unimix now that u have regroover?
🤔

Deep Society fewer musicians and musicianship around today than in the past, everything is more electronic now
Recognised that sample at 7:03
Classic.
Its actually a really popular song in the 70's - 80's
Just a tip - listen to a local radio which plays classics from the 19XX's and you'll get great samples there.
I always forget to look out for the song after finding a sample in it, therefore missing a load of chances. I'm poor tho so...
I meant on the radio, classic songs which have a good sample to use.
Christopher Cross - Sailing?
That crossfading tip is really a game changer ...
What is the beat at 0:00 ?
The beat he made in the video
Thanks for the knowledge.
Man, it's really dope beat. Is it yours or it's Dilla stuff?
Really enjoyed that, thanks.
Awesome

I came her to learn and was shown a VST that does the skilled bit for you, I'll go back to EQ...

Thanks man so dope
Sick Bruv!

does zinaptiq work in logic??????
how do you imoort sound
