Honestly the WiiU was alright. It was slow and all, but it was more durable than my Xbox One. It broke on it's own, and my WiiU is still fully functional.
It's been one of the best things about the console for me! Allowed me to no longer need a Wii or gamecube at all. Needed something that could play Skies of Arcadia.
gary wood It's a part of the Wii Hardware which is separate from the Wii U's. You can't boot directly into a gamecube game from the Wii U side of things. nintendon't works because it's a home-brew app running on the Wii side of the hardware.
RadicalMongoose Nevertheless, it is still native. It is still running it 1:1 on the Wii U hardware without any use of emulation. AFAIK vWii works similarly to dual-booting an operating system. So when you initialize the vWii, you're basically booting the Wii OS on the Wii U. Also, AFAIK, this is also how Wii VC works on the Wii U, except it circumvents the Home Menu.
I really love my Wii U despite the lack of games. Splatoon, Smash, Mario 3d World, Mario Kart, Bayonneta 2, Mario Maker, Lego City Undercover, Xenoblade, and more. PC + Wii U = Best Combo
+Raymond Games me too haha whoops..well actually I thought it was gonna be some joke or something and I was distracted looking at his profile pic thinking "wow I'm starting to see a lot of people with the switch logo as there profile pic"
I absolutely loved the Wii U, it is one of my favourite systems of all time and definitely one of most underrated. My top 5 games are: 1. Super Mario 3d world 2. Mario kart 8 3. Splatoon 4. Donkey kong country: tropical freeze 5. Bayonetta 2
Did you try SM3DW on Gamepad only? It'a different but great experience, the touch screen is way more easily accessible and you'll figure out a new way to enjoy this fantastic game.Touch everything&don't forget to blow on the mic : )
Dallas Mccall more like Pikmin 3, Super Mario 3D World, Mario Kart 8, Bayonetta 2, Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, The Legend of Zelda Twilight princess HD, The Wind Waker HD, Shovel Knight, Nintendo Land, Minecraft, Yoshi's Woolly World.
Dallas Mccall Mario kart 8, WWHD,TPHD, BOTW, pikman 3, bayonetta 2, DK tropical freeze, Xenoblade X, Lego city undercover, and not to mention all its exclusive indie games
The Wii U is the modern day Sega Saturn. Both systems were released with a confused launch, they were both less powerful than the competition, they both suffered from a dire lack of third-party content, (they both had admittedly weird advertisements), many of the best games were in 2D, one of the biggest games (Sonic X-Treme and Zelda BotW) were cancelled/redone on the successor, they sold marginally worse than the competition, and they had stunted life cycles that only lasted for 4 or so years. The Switch, likewise, already mirrors the Dreamcast, where Nintendo and Sega resolved many of their problems and they are temporarily back in the spotlight. Let's hope the Switch has a longer life than the Dreamcast.
NocturneArchunterKellianth Naming aside, you can't deny that the Wii U and Sega Saturn's life cycles were remarkably similar. The names varied in quality, but the commercials were just terrible for both in my opinion. As for the Dreamcast, it was a Utopia of first party content, and Sega really did go all out to try and bring back the Sega name by fixing all the issues that they had made for themselves. The Saturn had no 3D Sonic mainline games, the Dreamcast had 2. The Saturn was had to program for, the Dreamcast was easy, and the most powerful system on the market at the time. However, it wasn't enough, and despite all the valiant efforts to bring back Sega consoles, they had to pull the plug on Dreamcast due to a lack of funding less than 3 years later. It was great for what it was.
One game can't sell an entire console. if the PS5 had only one game that everybody bought, good or bad, it would be a flop. Sure, a few people would buy it for the Sonic name alone, but a Saturn with a mediocre Sonic X-Treme wouldn't solve all the other issues plaguing Sega - and even if it was the best game on the planet, the deed was done.
Ok, I know this was a minor throwaway line, but I don't know what you mean when you say that Smash 4 wasn't very stylistically different from Brawl, because I completely disagree there. Brawl's color palette was really muted and made everything look kinda gritty and dark, and that kinda worked for the story they were telling with the Subspace Emissary, but I think it makes the game look drab overall. When they developed Smash 4, they put much more of an emphasis on primary colors, and everything just pops out more. It's visual style is way more vibrant and full of life than Brawl's is and I think it makes all the difference.
My Wii U is my Zelda machine. Thanks to it I was able to experience Wind Waker, Twilight Princess, Skyward Sword, Minish Cap, Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks. If I can't get my hands on a Switch, Breath of the Wild is next!
I'm probably doing the same. I'd like to see how it runs on Switch but I've never been one for day one purchases on any console. If I like what I see with BotW on Switch, I'll hold off for another year or just buy the Wii U edition. Looking back, it was originally the reason I bought the system. That and Smash. Any other game I got was just a nice bonus.
I didn't even know PH and ST were on the Wii U. I already used mine to become somewhat of a remaster/Virtual Console console. I usually use it for WW/TP HD's, or SS and Xenoblade Chronicles. If I'm not playing one of those, I'm probably not playing my Wii U. Or I'm playing Splatoon.
Sir Piguithy Oh indeed. Smash was my main reason for a Wii U and I constantly play it too. Funny enough now that I realize it, I got all the Metroid games too sans 1 and 2 haha.
The Wii NSMB will always be the best. It was so much fun and very refreshing. The Wii U one is eh. The problem was it doesn't feel unique. I felt like I had done most of this stuff before. I'm just glad it looks like the switch doesn't have a NSMB game.
I feel as experimental as the Wii U was it'll be remembered more positively in the future. This console signaled not only a return to core gaming for Nintendo but also a move to detach from the TV screen and go mobile with the idea again manifesting in the upcoming Nintendo Switch console. Also let's not forget an awesome first party lineup even if they are all sequels to last gen games. All in all I think this is a fantastic console yet largely ignored and or misunderstood unlike its successful peers, the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One.
Man, it does hurt to see the system die like this. I had so much excitement for this, but the marketing, lack of third party, expensive prices, launch titles.... it's such a shame. I'm glad the Nintendo Switch is ditching the Wii brand, but I'll miss going out and see a direct of sorts to hype the new amazing 1st party titles... As poor as this console sold, I want to thank Nintendo for one of the best, underrated consoles out there.
my top games for this amazing system: 1 Splatoon (no arguments needed) 2 Bayonetta 1&2 3 Xenoblade X 4 Yoshi wooly world (hey, shut up, the game is amazing) 5 the wonderful 101 honorable metions for mario kart, smash bros and wii party U for being the best multiplayer games of the console
DR. BLUE Shantae is for sure because they contacted a Publisher. Yooka Laylee is also getting a Physical Release too ^^ (It's on their Kickstarter Updates Page)
+MiNiSHi DoZA Lmfao there is no support the only new Wii U game that is gonna come out is Zelda and I'm 100% sure that if nintendo hadnt promised Zelda for the Wii U, breath of the wild would turn into a Switch exclusive which I would be 100% on board with
Awsome game and use of the gamepad. Remember I had to get up in the middle of the night in order to buy it from the e-shop (in Europe at least) one of the first days. Hope for a Zombi Switch!!
It definitely had a weak start, though in 2014 they got their act together and released some very great games, my personal favorite is Captain Toad Treasure Tracker, and they also had some of the best games when they continued series like smash, Mario kart, and DK, 2015 was a somewhat forgettable year, but it had a lot of small games like Kirby and the rainbow curse, as well as some huge singleplayer games like Xenoblade Chronicles X, to top it off, 2015 had 2 multiplayer games that are revolutionary and invaluable to the gaming industry: Splatoon and Super Mario Maker, it will take too long to explain in full the effect of those games, but in short, Splatoon revitalized creativity and Super Mario Maker revitalized community, 2016 had most of its Nintendo games for the 3ds, but it had a few neat ideas for the Wii U, the only one I personally got was Pokken Tournament, the game that has the worst content balances between its 2 versions, when 2017 comes, it seems the Wii U will have its grand finale with Yooka Layle and Zelda: Breath of the Wild, we will see how the era of the switch goes
Thanks for doing this video, GameXplain! I mean, my suggestion probably wasn't responsible for the idea and video, but hey, still nice to discuss the Wii U one final time.
Not much love for Xenoblade Chronicles X. Not only one of the best looking games on Wii U, it also really used the game pad well and was overall a great game.
***** Probably. I guess since Derrick isn't there it didn't get brought up earlier. ***** Eh, to each their own. I loved Xenoblade but I think Xenoblade X was the better game. Either way they're both really great.
The GX theme song at the beginning still gives me chills. Takes me back to the days when the hype was crazy for MK8 and SSB4 and I watched all the discussions about them
I just picked up a Wii U....I am usually a system or two behind....I was quite surprised at how comfortable the gamepad is to hold and use. That is all, good day.
Hey GameXplain, recentrly I starded playing HUE (you know, that color based game) and I was very excited when I recognized the voice that talks to you trough the game. I'm pretty sure is the same voice that speaks to Link in Breath of the Wild. The voice actress is Anna Acton, you can found her in twitter (@acton_anna). Maybe you guys could interview her. catch you guys later. BYE
Paulo Vítor Ferreira Has she given any hints to her possibly being in Breath of the Wild? Even then it's not a good idea to ask to say anything. She is definitely going to be under NDA to say nothing, until Nintendo allows her.
I think she didnt said anything. But if it was really her, I guess she could say something like "yeah, it's me, and it has been a incredible experience".
Paulo Vítor Ferreira I really doubt it. I've noticed that actors who do (Nintendo projects specifically) don't say anything about what they're doing until the release or a few weeks before the release. The only exception I think of was Azura's English voice actor for Fates, who wasn't suppose to do that.
Paulo Vítor Ferreira Yeah, but I guess it for the best for both Nintendo and Acton/possibly another voice actress. So that Nintendo doesn't have to worry as much about possible things leaking and she doesn't have to be constantly badgered about it on Twitter, by eager fans.
Xenoblade Chronicles X had an excellent use for the Game Pad. One of my favorite games and I think I will buy the port if the graphics just make it more beautiful.
Lets face it, PS4 clearly won this generation. The games, the Marketing and even the design and quality of the console itself was very good. I think Switch will win the next generation however, because it's much more innovative than the other consoles.
I'd say no one won xD Xbox one is pure garbage, no exclusives. Wii u lacks games and third party Ps4 lacks the old gems on playstation like crash and spyro.
+MiNiSHi DoZA Don't get me wrong though. I love my WiiU. You're right about the small library of games, but I still love them. In fact, I only have Smash and Mario Maker being ports of games I already own. I just feel that the average gamer won't look back at the WiiU's legacy when all these ports are possibly coming.
Not gonna lie, the Wii U remains one of my favorite consoles of all time. It had a strong batch of exclusives, backwards compatibility, and an even better Virtual Console.
Clancy's Splinter Cell Blacklist for Wii U also utilized the gamepad in a unique, creative way. Another game that I believe took full advantage of the gamepad. You looked at the screen to fly drones or when using a spy camera underneath doors and it was your gadget/item screen. Too fun!
SuperMario145 I don't have a problem with the controls but about 80% people did. I wouldn't say it's better than 64 either. It VERY similar to 64 (That's good thing) but it seems dumbed down a bit. Especially the bosses.
High Points: - Wii U can play most of Nintendo games across the most generations. - There were more indie games than on Wii. - DLC for the most part was appealing and Mario Kart had like the most ideal approach to it. - Platinum games are top tier, they're really games that appeal to the hardcore and required dedication to be mastered. - Local multiplayer IMO is the best on Wii U, there are several great party games, and I hope the Switch at least supports lan considering the portability aspect. - Miiverse is something I'll like on PS4. For me I think open world games benefit from an application like this since it makes the world feel deeper, with people posting from a flower, a character or a panorama. - Despite being an unpopular opinion I liked several games be pick up and play. At this moment in my life it has been hard sinking deep into experiences the other console have. Either it being a competitive online only multiplayer game, 300+ campaign or a hard as nails dungeon crawler. -Wii U has the best console internet browser. Pop ups suck on any other console browser, it's cool to be able to browse while a video plays on the TV, and I do like that touch of tilting the gamepad to scroll through a forum site. Low Points: - The Wii U mostly felt like a stop gap than a step up from the Wii. I don't care that much for visuals but gameplaywise this gen has taken concepts that with less effects and draw distance could be recreated on old hardware. DKC:TF, NSMBU, Rayman Legends, could have worked on the Wii, also disregarding the gamepad Star Fox Zero. - In comparison to other consoles the Wii U's interface is slow and still has some of the nuisance of patches, updates and disc updates. - The gamepad is the MAIN ISSUE with the Wii U. When the president of Nintendo, consumers and devs can agree it wasn't ideal to develop for, that it took processing power from a inferior console, made some games harder to play, and all in all the best uses were 5-local multiplayer and web browsing input device. It's even more baffling with how the Wii was simpler and elegant. Finally when that's the main value proposition it's no wonder how despite efforts it never took off, there's a thing as trying too hard.
TOP FIVE WII U GAMES: 5. Shovel Knight 4. Super Mario 3D World 3. The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD 2. Super Mario Maker 1. Super Smash Bros. for Wii U
Dear gamexplain, I have found a cool bit in Splatoon: if you you into 'test a weapon mode' and then choose a gun with a splat bomb, go up the ramp and throw the bomb through the basketball hoop you'll get a shout of appreciation from your inkling and some green sparks. I hope you like this 😄⛹
Could you imagine a Sonic Maker? Right after Sonic Mania comes out? Though I doubt it would be quite as big as Mario Maker. I remember debugging Sonic CD to place objects in the stage and make my own race tracks and pinball stages. So much fun.
As a staunch defender of the New Super Mario Bros. games, I am happy you guys gave NSMBU some praise (although Wii is still my favorite). I loved how GBA Virtual Console games came with the manuals. That was sweet.
The fact that neither Wii Sports Club nor Wii Fit U could move the system speaks volumes on how Nintendo's desired audience wasn't there on Wii U nor was there a cultural interest in these sequels like the originals had
I was sad I never got any upvotes for a few things I did on Miiverse. The one thing I did that I thought was so clever was go on the Miiverse stage with Mewtwo and try to write stuff as if Mewtwo was reading your mind. I was going for a Psycho Mantis thing, so I wrote things like... "You used to have a crush on Misty." "You bought Ocarina of Time, again." "So, I see you like to play Mario Kart 8."
ultimate webslinger If you like the motion controls in splatoon, you will like them in zero. The only time you need to look at the gamepad is during the target view sections. If you don't like the motion controls, you might want to keep the gamepad as still as possible. Overall, zero is a decent game if you are a star fox fan. Just lots of wasted potential due to the controls. I enjoyed it.
It's the worst console Nintendo has made besides the Virtual Boy, but it's still all right. The best thing it can hope to do is that its failure will lead to Nintendo making the Switch a massive success. The Wii had a bigger and better library, although their Mario Kart and Smash entries were kind of weak compared to the Wii U version.
Honestly I doubt anyone was even excited for New Super Mario Bros. U when it was first revealed back at E3 2012. I remember when it was first revealed the game got a pretty big backlash from both fans & critics saying that the game looked, sound & played exactly, and I mean *EXACTLY* like the Wii game, which unfortunately the game turned out to be that way at the end. Pretty much the only new thing about that game was the acorn suit, the baby yoshis & the Mario World inspired map & that's literally it. Granted NSMBU's backlash wasn't as bad as Federation Force, Amiibo Festival & Color Splash were & arguably the game did turned out to be the best of the New series, but that still doesn't hide the fact that people were pretty damn salty about that game during its first reveal & rightfully so. It also didn't help that they announced NSMB2 a month before they announced the Wii U one, which just added more fuel into the fire...
The Wii U was an awesome console, but it's biggest disappointment to me perhaps is that it's the first time on a Nintendo console that I felt like they never lived up to the high standards of the past. Even near past considering stuff like Mario Galaxies, DKCR, Xenoblade etc. on Wii. While there were top tier quality Nintendo games, and I might have to change my mind if I ever put more than the 20 or so hours I did into Smash 4, nothing was that amazing, GOTYC worthy game from Nintendo. And they were beaten, imo, by Shovel Knight and Rayman Legends. Even if you don't love Rayman Legends the same way I do, no other traditional game had such consistent and effective use of the Gamepad. I will say, if they had that game (again, barring Smash 4 that I don't feel I can fully comment on) and 3rd parties didn't entirely abandon it, I think it would've been better than NES, N64 and arguably Wii imo. Depends on how you look at it, since a big reason is for awesome indie games, and the other 2 consoles have those as well nowadays, and Sony more of them. Shame that everything and everyone (including Nintendo) screwed it over.
I got my Wii U December 27th 2013 and I got the Zelda WWHD bundle, the problem I have with the Wii U is the lack of modern online features and the GamePad being forced on you in games like Star Fox Zero
The Wii U isn't going to have a very strong following in the future like the Gamecube or N64 do. There's no way to get replacement Gamepads, the Battery is terrible, 2 power adapters means it's twice as likely to break from surges or overheating, and the Hard Drives fail like crazy. Plus, Games that need updates like Smash, Splatoon and Mario maker are going to be hell to find a complete version. Honestly I feel like the Wii U is dead for good and won't come back, unless if it gets a good Homebrew scene like the Xbox, Wii and Dreamcast do.
RadicalMongoose If they could've they would've by this point. I doubt any company would be willing though, they'd have to incorporate multiple cameras, a giant touchscreen, a Universal remote function, an NFC reader, a Wiimote bar, a Gyroscope, Speakers, Headphone jack, and Microphone, on top of everything else that normally goes into a controller. Plus, the Wii U doesn't support wired Gamepads, and third party controllers seem to have the worst wireless signals ever. People would probably make mods for the Gamepad, but you'd probably just have to find a console with a good condition Gamepad.
On the virtual console point; as a Donkey Kong Country fan, Nintendo did a ton of disservice to us for the first two years of the Wii U's lifespan. Just a bit after the Wii U's release, they took all of them OFF of the Wii Virtual Console for undisclosed reasons, leading to a ton of depressing speculation. They then finally re-released them on Wii U with Donkey Kong Land on 3DS almost 2 months after Tropical Freeze in 2014. It was a hell of a time to be a DK fan, uncertain if you'd ever see a commercial release of the Rare titles again.
I'd like to add Xenoblade Chronicles X and ZombiU to your short list of games that made excellent use of the GamePad, Andre. I *loved* constant access to the map in XCX, and ZombiU is not nearly as intense in its remake. While TPHD didn't have as much "dead space" as WWHD for inventory management, it was still highly beneficial.
homesponge I completely understand. I haven't watched all of their discussions, but their switch ones i watched and really like. Obviously I agree with Roger and not Josh, because Roger is more optimistic like GX and Josh is very very picky. I still enjoy it though. Ive been following Rogersbase ever since about episode 15 of The smash bros Japan Time Podcast, and I think he is really good
C Robinson This is revisionist history. We all knew, we simply didn't want last gen hardware, lacklustre first party games, and next to no third party suppourt.
C Robinson This is revisionist history. We all knew, we simply didn't want last gen hardware, lacklustre first party games, and next to no third party suppourt.
I still question why they never put GBA games on the 3DS and only had it on the Wii U. It's not like it can't run it properly because I'm pretty sure if it has the power to run Smash 4, it can run those games. Also, I've seen people hack their 3DS's to play GBA game and they run fine(somewhat different circumstances, but still...)! So I never got why they haven't done that at all(ESPECIALLY with the NEW 3DS)!
Busterman64 The 3DS is fully capable of GBA games because when it was first released it was about 200 or so then Nintendo dropped the price to 169 and to compensate for it the people who bought it before the price drop were eligible for the "Ambassador program" which gave them about 5 or so GBA games.
Tyler Falcon Even more of a reason to question it! It's such a missed opportunity! We re-live our childhoods and they get more money! it's a win-win situation!
Tyler Falcon Even more of a reason to question it! It's such a missed opportunity! We re-live our childhoods(while on the go like with the original GBA) and they get more money! it's a win-win situation!
Busterman64 You see that's problem with Nintendo. People want something and they usually do the opposite. I would love to have Super Star saga and Advance wars on my new 3ds but for whatever reason they don't want to do it.
Here's how terrible the messaging for the Wii U was: I wanted to buy it Day One, but NONE of the news outlets I follow ever mentioned the the "Deluxe Edition" came with Nintendo Land. I thought I was going to pay $400 for a system without a game, so in the end, I chose not to buy it.
as a platform lover i agree wii u is a great console 4 that kind of games 1 donkey kong tf for me the best pf i have ever played in 2d scroll 2 yoshi wooly's world , just beautiful 3 Mario 3d world , a great mario like always but not better than galaxy though 88 4 Mario u and luigi u , more colourful than the wii version , imo is better 5 Rayman Other great games i played in wii u are Mario kart 8 , bayonetta2 , captain toad , zelda tp and wk , (waiting 4 breath of the wild ) , mario maker , zombi u however i was dissapointed with star fox
Rayman Legends made the best use of the GamePad outside of Nintendoland. Playing as Murphy was addicting and was genuinely fun to have during multiplayer.
If they can get Wii U's UI with PS4's speed then the next systems UI will be incredible. Heck, if they can get Miitomo running on it at any speed I might start using that app again, especially if it's the friends list like some rumours have said; it's so much easier to add friends in that than any of the competition, including Steam, let alone the Wii U's incredibly awful friends list... admittedly it's pretty hard to find anything else in that app, but adding friends is a breeze. That's my big memory of the Wii U, gamepad maps and the great, but overly slow, UI made things so much more convenient, if it had a faster OS I would be spoiled from playing PS4 even more given how hard it is to navigate that thing (though I still think Steam is marginally better than Wii U)
The top 10 Wii U games in no particular order: 10. Super Smash Bros 4 9. Super Mario Maker 8. Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze 7. Wind Waker HD 6. Twilight Princess HD 5. Mario Kart 8 4. Xenoblade Chronicles X 3. Splatoon 2. Super Mario 3D World 1. Hyrule Warriors
Honestly the WiiU was alright. It was slow and all, but it was more durable than my Xbox One. It broke on it's own, and my WiiU is still fully functional.
BlueSkull789 that's your fault, my Xbox is fine
I've dropped my game pad from about 4 feet onto a hardwood floor like 5 or 6 times and nothing happened.
Spilled salsa on mine 👌🏽
Richard Castanon Nintendium. My sister threw my Wii out the window from a 2 story building...the damn thing STILL WORKED
It's not unusual for any product to have defective models. You probably had one.
Wii U can actually play Gamecube games naively with a little tweaking, so there's no excuse for Nintendo's not having GC VC.
It's been one of the best things about the console for me! Allowed me to no longer need a Wii or gamecube at all. Needed something that could play Skies of Arcadia.
That's not native to the Wii U hardware, it runs through the Wii part of the system
RadicalMongoose
Which IS a part of the hardware itself.
gary wood It's a part of the Wii Hardware which is separate from the Wii U's. You can't boot directly into a gamecube game from the Wii U side of things. nintendon't works because it's a home-brew app running on the Wii side of the hardware.

OH MY GOD
UltiMike 64 OMG YOUR PROFILE PIC
UltiMike 64 Le Gasp.
Wait, a comment that isn't creative?
Richard Castanon Got em.
I really love my Wii U despite the lack of games.
Splatoon, Smash, Mario 3d World, Mario Kart, Bayonneta 2, Mario Maker, Lego City Undercover, Xenoblade, and more.
PC + Wii U = Best Combo
TomasSz No final fantasy . That's a bad combo.
TomasSz PS4 is
great
literally every final fantasy sans XV is on pc
NeoPraetorian Final Fantasy is just shitty weeb fanfic
Yeah exactly all you need is a good pc and nintendos consoles
I will attend my dad's funeral which will take place tomorrow. R.I.P Dad. ;(
Nintendo Switch for a minute I thought you were talking about your actual father
+Raymond Games Same 😂😂
Your coming home with me March remember that homie
+Raymond Games me too haha whoops..well actually I thought it was gonna be some joke or something and I was distracted looking at his profile pic thinking "wow I'm starting to see a lot of people with the switch logo as there profile pic"
Raymond Games I am. :/
I absolutely loved the Wii U, it is one of my favourite systems of all time and definitely one of most underrated. My top 5 games are:
1. Super Mario 3d world
2. Mario kart 8
3. Splatoon
4. Donkey kong country: tropical freeze
5. Bayonetta 2
Fishkeeper63 I know. I don't know why people dislike it so much. Btw I agree with your top 3.
Did you try SM3DW on Gamepad only? It'a different but great experience, the touch screen is way more easily accessible and you'll figure out a new way to enjoy this fantastic game.Touch everything&don't forget to blow on the mic : )
I still wish the Wii U had more sales on the account of Smash Bros, Splatoon, Mario Maker, & more
Waheed Abdullah "and more"? Like what? StarFox Zero? xD
Dallas Mccall I was thinking Super Mario 3D World, Pikmin 3, Yoshi's Woolly World, Bayonetta 2, & Lego Star Wars the Force Awakens
Waheed Abdullah I agree, but those aren't really games that would pull in Xbox, PC, and PS4 gamers tho.
Dallas Mccall more like Pikmin 3, Super Mario 3D World, Mario Kart 8, Bayonetta 2, Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, The Legend of Zelda Twilight princess HD, The Wind Waker HD, Shovel Knight, Nintendo Land, Minecraft, Yoshi's Woolly World.
Dallas Mccall Mario kart 8, WWHD,TPHD, BOTW, pikman 3, bayonetta 2, DK tropical freeze, Xenoblade X, Lego city undercover, and not to mention all its exclusive indie games
I also remember a lot of "HAN SOLO DIED" on Splatoon XD
I was really glad I went to see The Force Awakens on opening day.

I think that's the 3rd time we heard the mii verse story in smash bros about game of thrones
Han Solo dies
Ok, I know this was a minor throwaway line, but I don't know what you mean when you say that Smash 4 wasn't very stylistically different from Brawl, because I completely disagree there.
Brawl's color palette was really muted and made everything look kinda gritty and dark, and that kinda worked for the story they were telling with the Subspace Emissary, but I think it makes the game look drab overall.
When they developed Smash 4, they put much more of an emphasis on primary colors, and everything just pops out more. It's visual style is way more vibrant and full of life than Brawl's is and I think it makes all the difference.
Major Agent 3 Guy and Squid Sisters Yeah.
I was just talking about visual design here, since that seemed to be what the comment was referring to.
BioTroy sadly I won't be getting the switch for years so breath is going to be my last wii u game
BioTroy same for me it's WWHD, TPHD, ALTTP, LOZ, LOZ 2, SS, PH, and ST. Lol my 3ds is OOT3D, MM3D, OOA/OOS, and LA
Sir Piguithy Oh indeed. Smash was my main reason for a Wii U and I constantly play it too. Funny enough now that I realize it, I got all the Metroid games too sans 1 and 2 haha.
RogersBase is seriously the Jack Black of Nintendo Discussions
The Wii NSMB will always be the best. It was so much fun and very refreshing. The Wii U one is eh. The problem was it doesn't feel unique. I felt like I had done most of this stuff before. I'm just glad it looks like the switch doesn't have a NSMB game.
My guess is that Mario Maker will probably replace the NSMB series
Anthracite I agree
nsmbw is by miles the best one its so gooood
Or maybe a more unique 2d Mario.
As poor as this console sold, I want to thank Nintendo for one of the best, underrated consoles out there.
my top games for this amazing system:
1 Splatoon (no arguments needed)
2 Bayonetta 1&2
3 Xenoblade X
4 Yoshi wooly world (hey, shut up, the game is amazing)
5 the wonderful 101
honorable metions for mario kart, smash bros and wii party U for being the best multiplayer games of the console
Wii U is such an underrated console
BLVDKillz the games are underrated, the console is ass
Shrek Ogre The console looks good and sleek, the guts of the hardware is ass.
Infinite Mega I think the games were ass and so was the hardware personally.
Infinite Mega so everyone who has a differing opinion on the Wii U from you is a troll? Nice safe space you got there.
***** He did reply back... lol
Yooka Laylee will most probably be my last purchase for the WiiU and i'm excited for that.
Add in Shantae too
Is it gonna come out physical?!
DR. BLUE Shantae is for sure because they contacted a Publisher. Yooka Laylee is also getting a Physical Release too ^^ (It's on their Kickstarter Updates Page)
Yooka? Yes, they confirmed it in their latest update.
Helloz World yeesss!!
thank you Sir!
so the Wii U is a legacy console, like the PS VITA
Adrian Duran Not really, theres still first party support.
Gamexplain is just losing their shit because production stopped
MiNiSHi DoZA You mean the ONE game left for the console that'll probably be given way more focus for Switch anyway? lol
+MiNiSHi DoZA Lmfao there is no support the only new Wii U game that is gonna come out is Zelda and I'm 100% sure that if nintendo hadnt promised Zelda for the Wii U, breath of the wild would turn into a Switch exclusive which I would be 100% on board with
so dropped the vita like hot rock nintendo at least tried to push the system
The Vita was awesome
ZombiU also used the GamePad awesomely.
Yes, actually it used it perfectly😄 love that game
obnoxious British accent *"HAHA BAD LUCK!"*
Best thing about the Wii U: Super Smash Bros Wii U modding.
Not much love for Xenoblade Chronicles X. Not only one of the best looking games on Wii U, it also really used the game pad well and was overall a great game.
flameheadshero agree. cant wait for whats next on switch.
***** Probably. I guess since Derrick isn't there it didn't get brought up earlier.
***** Eh, to each their own. I loved Xenoblade but I think Xenoblade X was the better game. Either way they're both really great.
The GX theme song at the beginning still gives me chills. Takes me back to the days when the hype was crazy for MK8 and SSB4 and I watched all the discussions about them
My other problem with the Wii U was, that you can't buy a First Party Gamepad Charger from stores. (At least where I live)
TakerKaneanite619 i broke my charger twice and I found 2 good ones on amazon (BTW I live in France)
video starts at 0:30
THANK YOU FOR THIS UPLOAD ! I'm just settling getting my coffee at the office and I needed a little boost to start working, so this will do it :)
P.S I love when you invite Roger he and I have such similar opinions
The original NSMB is the best of the four in my eyes solely because of those minigames. Those were awesome!
Milo Williams I agree
Those mini games as well as the vs mode
Best use of the GamePad: Pikmin 3. Perfect for multitasking.
And then they put it on the Switch anyways
Love the intro. Glad you mentioned Tropical Freeze!
Just like the Wii U's life, this discussion was...cut too short
Gamecube Virtual Console compatible with the GameCube Adapter for the Nintendo Switch! PLEASE!
VGM Studios smash Melee
VGM Studios YOU CAN USE THE GAMECUBE CONTROLLER WITH EVERY GAME ON SWITCH!!! THEY ADDED THAT IN NOW YES!!! Couldn't do that on wii u!
I just picked up a Wii U....I am usually a system or two behind....I was quite surprised at how comfortable the gamepad is to hold and use. That is all, good day.
I've only owned my Wii U for a year now, but I still played the crud out of it! My favorite game is Mario Kart 8!
That's sad. :/
I liked the normal Wii NSMB than NSMBU probably because of nostalgia.
Xenoblade Chronicles X had an excellent use for the Game Pad. One of my favorite games and I think I will buy the port if the graphics just make it more beautiful.
It was Xeno X that made me get a Wii U. I'm certainly glad it did.
Lets face it, PS4 clearly won this generation. The games, the Marketing and even the design and quality of the console itself was very good. I think Switch will win the next generation however, because it's much more innovative than the other consoles.
I'd say no one won xD
Xbox one is pure garbage, no exclusives.
Wii u lacks games and third party
Ps4 lacks the old gems on playstation like crash and spyro.
Music Proposition but the real winners will always be the PC gamers
SuperMario145 Xbox still has halo and gears for their exclusives.
I think the PS4 won in large part because Microsoft and Nintendo fucked up.
radyrara That isn't first party games thought.
With all these ports, the WiiU won't have much of a legacy.
Samn- -Jamn Gimmick wise it will. Plus the number of ports wont damage anything.
People like yourself must have a small library of games.
Samn- -Jamn Too true
MiNiSHi DoZA
Most of the Gimmicks have negative reception. Like Star Fox Zero.
Splatoon was amazing though.
Yes - I loved how WindWaker used the gamepad - it's probably my favourite game on the system
I liked that the settings menu that the game pad and TV each played a different part of the song
Not gonna lie, the Wii U remains one of my favorite consoles of all time. It had a strong batch of exclusives, backwards compatibility, and an even better Virtual Console.
Shame that none of you brought up Affordable Space Adventures when discussing game that make great use of the gamepad. Definitely an underrated title.
I loved the Wii U, I'm still planning on buying a few more Wii U games
Clancy's Splinter Cell Blacklist for Wii U also utilized the gamepad in a unique, creative way. Another game that I believe took full advantage of the gamepad. You looked at the screen to fly drones or when using a spy camera underneath doors and it was your gadget/item screen. Too fun!
"Miimes" - Ándre 2016
I love the WiiU for so many reasons. The Gamepad was great for certain people.
whosmav628
But was disliked by most when was forced... like on Star Fox Zero.
Tyler it worked really good on Star fox zero. Tbh it plays so much better than Sfox 64.
SuperMario145
I don't have a problem with the controls but about 80% people did.
I wouldn't say it's better than 64 either. It VERY similar to 64 (That's good thing) but it seems dumbed down a bit. Especially the bosses.
Tyler Falcon The bosses are miles better... And i disagree so much with the controlls too.
Eh, they're way too easy for me.
But seriously I didn't have a problem with the controls.
I actually like them.
High Points:
- Wii U can play most of Nintendo games across the most generations.
Low Points:
- The Wii U mostly felt like a stop gap than a step up from the Wii.
Man you guys really like to bring up how much Andrew LOVES Super Mario Sunshine.
My Top Wii U games:
5. Nintendo Land
4. New Super Mario Bros U
3. Super Mario 3D World
2. Mario Kart 8
1. Smash 4 Wii U
TOP FIVE WII U GAMES:
5. Shovel Knight
4. Super Mario 3D World
3. The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD
2. Super Mario Maker
1. Super Smash Bros. for Wii U
Dear gamexplain,
I have found a cool bit in Splatoon: if you you into 'test a weapon mode' and then choose a gun with a splat bomb, go up the ramp and throw the bomb through the basketball hoop you'll get a shout of appreciation from your inkling and some green sparks.
Chrono Trigger still isn't on the Wii U Virtual Console! How do you feel Ash?
What is the name of the song from 33:30? Great video. Lots of good discussion. Thanks, guys
"You used to have a crush on Misty."
"You bought Ocarina of Time, again."
"So, I see you like to play Mario Kart 8."
So it's 2020, and I'm here watching this 4 year old discussion about the Wii U. Miiverse wan't even dead yet wow
Really what made me love the Wii U was the virtual console expanding on the games (despite never releasing Gamecube games)
What a interesting discussion. Nice job guys
5. Star Fox Zero
4. Splatoon
3. Mario Maker
2. Smash Bros.
1. Mario Kart 8
Honorable Mentions:
DKC Tropical Freeze
Nintendo Land
Zelda Remakes
Pokken Tournament
Bayonetta 1/2
That is Falco I am thinking of buying zero but still not sure of the motion controls btw played the heck of 64
ultimate webslinger If you like the motion controls in splatoon, you will like them in zero. The only time you need to look at the gamepad is during the target view sections. If you don't like the motion controls, you might want to keep the gamepad as still as possible. Overall, zero is a decent game if you are a star fox fan. Just lots of wasted potential due to the controls. I enjoyed it.
Star fox zero is a masterpiece.
But yet they have no black Friday deals for it and only $50 price cut and nothing else
The Wii U was a great console. Hopefully people will realize its greatness in a few years.
I never owned a Wii so Wii U was my 2 in 1 console. Because of it, I got to play Xenoblade, which became my favorite game ever.
Yami
It's really good, both of them
I spent many an hour in the Satorl Marshes at night.
There still gonna continue the Online Services for the Wii U after the Switch's release right? So Miiverse and Spotpass will work?
one thing that is uncertain is whether or not miis will exist on the switch
We just might find out on January 12, 2017.
But nsmbu is an amazing game....
color splash is my favourite game on the wiiu. i loved it so much
When they talked about GBA Games, they put Mario & Luigi Bowsers Inside Story which is a DS Game instead of Superstar Saga
TFW people think Bayonetta 2 is third party when nintendo is literally in its opening credits.
Samuel Baugh There is already a homebrew out there for Wii U
People can make third party tablets.
Samuel Baugh Dude even the Sega Saturn has a following it's not going to be a problem.
I didn't get to play much on my Wii U due to the fact the first one can't hold much gb. I'm hoping the Switch will get me to play more.
You know... you mention fatal frame... Anyone think it will see a port to switch?
rerako no it sold horribly and Nintendo of America acts like it doesn't exist
Why are all the discussions split into two videos now? I miss the days of seeing a new hour long GameXplain discussion show up in my TH-cam feed. :(
This should be 24h discussion video!
I just realized their at 700,000 subs congrats
When is part 2 coming out???
Wii vs Wii U death battle!
The Falconator the Wii left a successful console
I would also have to say their best selling console. So revolutionary!
The Falconator Best selling console was DS
The Falconator Right behind PS2
Arya Sanani DS then ps4 best selling consoles. Also, fuck game explain Wii u was the best thing ever
The "part 1" makes me cry every time
What is that piece of music at the start?
please what is the name of the discusion theme?
Super Mario Galaxy 3, Super Mario Sunshine 2, Splatoon 2, Bayonetta 3....hmm
I really hope those rumors are fake. I prefer an all new Mario game. This whole Galaxy 3 / Sunshine 2 garbage is tiresome.
I love having Roger in these discussions #4thgamexplainmember #5thifyoucounttom
homesponge I completely understand. I haven't watched all of their discussions, but their switch ones i watched and really like. Obviously I agree with Roger and not Josh, because Roger is more optimistic like GX and Josh is very very picky. I still enjoy it though. Ive been following Rogersbase ever since about episode 15 of The smash bros Japan Time Podcast, and I think he is really good
I still can't believe that people particularly those who are hardcore gamers didn't know the WiiU was a new console.
C Robinson
This is revisionist history.

Busterman64
The 3DS is fully capable of GBA games because when it was first released it was about 200 or so then Nintendo dropped the price to 169 and to compensate for it the people who bought it before the price drop were eligible for the "Ambassador program" which gave them about 5 or so GBA games.
Tyler Falcon
Even more of a reason to question it!
It's such a missed opportunity!
We re-live our childhoods and they get more money! it's a win-win situation!

We re-live our childhoods(while on the go like with the original GBA) and they get more money! it's a win-win situation!
Busterman64
You see that's problem with Nintendo. People want something and they usually do the opposite.
I would love to have Super Star saga and Advance wars on my new 3ds but for whatever reason they don't want to do it.
homesponge
Not just FF games even the lack of N64 games! They don't even have some the basics like Mario Kart 64 and Star Fox 64.
Here's how terrible the messaging for the Wii U was:
I wanted to buy it Day One, but NONE of the news outlets I follow ever mentioned the the "Deluxe Edition" came with Nintendo Land. I thought I was going to pay $400 for a system without a game, so in the end, I chose not to buy it.
Nintendo should have a subscription service where you can play unlimited amounts of virtual console games.
as a platform lover i agree wii u is a great console 4 that kind of games
1 donkey kong tf for me the best pf i have ever played in 2d scroll
2 yoshi wooly's world , just beautiful
3 Mario 3d world , a great mario like always but not better than galaxy though 88
4 Mario u and luigi u , more colourful than the wii version , imo is better
5 Rayman
Other great games i played in wii u are
Mario kart 8 , bayonetta2 , captain toad , zelda tp and wk , (waiting 4 breath of the wild ) , mario maker , zombi u
however i was dissapointed with star fox
I hope first touch screen home console will be here
Rayman Legends made the best use of the GamePad outside of Nintendoland. Playing as Murphy was addicting and was genuinely fun to have during multiplayer.
And NSMBU was one of the best Mario games ever. As in, it stands next to SMB, 3, and World. In my opinion, of course.
The top 10 Wii U games in no particular order:
10. Super Smash Bros 4

2. Super Mario 3D World
1. Hyrule Warriors
1.Smash wii u
2.Splatoon
