      Im sorry for late response. You can converting the image to the grayscale first, and then adjust the level or brightness based on the need, i suggest you set the brightness more because cmyk ink is transparent. after that invert the image and convert to halftone. Good luck👍

    Tut is great, learned a lot. Thanks! But the real question is...how does the final output look with these settings/separations? Does it print well after burning screens and running inks? What are the proper shades of CMYK inks needed to achieve desktop to shirt look? How about underbases for darker colored apparel?

    • @ekasaputra5161
      @ekasaputra5161  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, it'll results great, but depending what's specifications/quality of screen printing you want to reach and with what screen printing setup ( machine, tools, etc ) do you have, you have to know the limit of your setup. More detail of printing result, more expensive you have to pay for setup.
      Printing separation like this CMYK you must have good quality CMYK ink/paste , and make sure you set registration of each screen precise with others. So the ink ( raster/halftone ) will mixed correctly. Thanks. Good Luck...

    love your video thank u I just got confused when your doing the math from mesh count is that for the frequency number ? so let's say I'm using 305 mesh on manual press with plastisol ink how I figure my angles freq ..thanks. so much for your help .

    • @ekasaputra5161
      @ekasaputra5161  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +FAITHonHIGH yes, the formula used to obtain the number of frequency. If you are using 305 mesh you can calculate it like this 305/5=61, many screen printer usually use frequency number like these 40,45,55,60,65, because we have 61 so we can choose 60 or 65. But if you want to use 61 thats not a problem...CMIWW usually 65 lpi is maximum number for printing t-shirt on automatic press, and 55 lpi is maximum number for printing t-shirt on manual press. BUT in my country many screen printer that use manual press especially line table using frequency number 65 lpi and thats not a problem, you just have to be consistent when doing stroking.
      Thanks for watching.

    2:34 If the halftone is usually low like 40-45, then why is the
    example at 300 for halftone value? Now I'm confused. I'm not sure if
    that example is very clear...

    • @ekasaputra5161
      @ekasaputra5161  9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Bill Alexander In my example, I used mesh count screen 300 mesh(per inch), usually used for solvent based CMYK ink so halftone result is 60 to get more detail with high value halftone. If halftone 40-45(usually for CMYK water based ink) that means the mesh used should between 155-200 mesh(per inch).

    im having some issues with after doing the halftoning the cyan in the new file, i select all and copy it but it wont let me paste it back into the original cyan page. am i missing a step on bringing the halftone back over?

    • @ekasaputra5161
      @ekasaputra5161  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Corey redding i don't know what makes you cannot paste into original channel. from your explanation, i think you are right for the steps.
      it should be pasted, because i've never had this problem.
      these are the steps:
      1. select all (ctrl+a) only one channel you want separate, and copy (ctrl+c) it, (for this example cyan).
      2. make a new file, (just ctrl+n, and new window appear with the width and height automatically with the same size as you copy, do not change the size), just click OK.
      3. Paste (ctrl+v) to new file
      4. Now we have to Halftoning the new file, Image > Mode > Bitmap, Input and Output Resolution both must be the same and click OK.
      5. Fill the Frequency and Angle (for this example cyan) according to the rule, and then select Shape what you want (Round, Ellipse, or what you want), and click OK. Now you can see the halftoned image.
      6. Select all (ctrl+a) and copy it(ctrl+c). Makes sure you copy this halftoned image.
      7. Back to the original file, select only one channel (for this example cyan), and then Paste (ctrl+V) to it.
      Do the same thing for the next (magenta, yellow, and black)
      Thanks for watching

    hi Eka Saputra just want to ask..are this already the negative that i could develop on to my screen and print to any shirts?..and will this also work for other images?..(if so....this is really really helpful.)..THANK YOU..

    • @ekasaputra5161
      @ekasaputra5161  9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      ton taganna Hi Ton..
      Yes, every channel for each C, M, Y, K already the negative, so you are ready to print for each channel/color and developing these to the screens. BUT you can only print on LIGHT COLOR SHIRTS especially WHITE SHIRTS for better result. If you want to print on DARK COLOR SHIRTS you have to make underbase/whitebase for it because CMYK Ink is TRANSPARENT. Oke, next time I will probably make a video tutorial about how to make CMYK underbase for dark color shirts.
      Yes, you can apply these steps for other images :)

    Nice vid for learning purposes, because it shows very clearly, what's being done to the image. However, I think you did some unnecessary work here. Can't you "halftonize" the channels directly in the CMYK image? I'm not familiar with recent photoshop versions, but in 5.0 you could simply apply Pixelate > Color Halftone filter where you just input max dot size + angles for each channel and it basically does what you did in this vid.

    • @ekasaputra5161
      @ekasaputra5161  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      ojanieno Thanks bro. Thanks for watching.
      I'm using version 6.0, but in my opinion if we apply halftone with Pixelate > Color Halftone in my 6.0 version (i don't know Pixelate > Color Halftone filter both 5.0 and 6.0 has same feature or not), we can't set the shape and we just limited by max radius in pixel that allows value from 4 to 127, that's a different and not enough to do smallest dot for higher lpi(frequency) because in screen printing we use per inch or per centimeter to match with our screen mesh. But if we use Image > Mode > Bitmap, besides we can adjust the frequency, we also can adjust the shape of the halftone...
      I hope this video can help you : )
      Happy Screen Printing!

    Nice tut! But how can you be sure, that the after-print colors will be OK? I used to play a lot with LEVELS to adjust the % values of each channel. Usually the magenta channel have unnecessary, lot of % presence.

    If you're serious about t-shirt color seps and need them to print great, you MUST use UltraSeps to generate the seps. Just changing the mode to CMYK on Photoshop and trying to adjust it properly is a recipe for disaster. Been using UltraSeps for about 5 years and the friggin software rules! www.ultraseps.com
