    Can this pencil sharpener sharpen pastel pencils?

    • @carandacheinsouthafrica3424
      @carandacheinsouthafrica3424  3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Hi Takashi, yes, it can produce excellent results for Pastel Pencils. Keep in mind that Pastel Pencils can have a tendency to clog up the cutter blades, reducing the effectiveness of the sharpener. This can be avoided by sharpening a graphite pencil in the sharpener after every few Pastel Pencils. The graphite acts as a lubricant and clears the cutter for further excellent results.

      sharpening pastel pencils tend to blunt the cutter faster then other pencils, and since caran d'ache does not sell cutters to replace the one that the sharpener comes with, it is pointless to buy a "metal" one... you will throw it away in less than a year if you work with pastels

    • @carandacheinsouthafrica3424
      @carandacheinsouthafrica3424  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@evilsdexter5261 please do not throw it away, the cutter is certainly replaceable, you will find that I mention this at 2:52 in the video. Please ask your retailer, they have access to replacement cutters through the local agents.
      Pastel Pencils do tend to blunten any cutter more quickly than graphite pencils. This is because graphite is itself an excellent lubricant, and it is absent in Pastel Pencils. Tip: you may sharpen a graphite pencil in between every few Pastel Pencils to drastically lengthen the life of the cutter. Solid graphite pencils like the Grafstone are particularly suitable for this as they provide the most graphite. One or two turns on the handle is enough to lubricate the cutter and continue sharpening your Pastel Pencils.

      @@evilsdexter5261 You are right. I've used swordfish and M+R. After about 100 sharpenings, the cutters are no longer sharp, or the core breaks with both of them. I guess the result is the same as long as the structure is the same. Thank you very much.

      @@carandacheinsouthafrica3424 It happens that after inserting a pencil into the pencil sharpener and bringing the whole carriage back, it sharpens the tip of the lead but then finally breaks it

      Please consult your local dealer for advice. Some pencils break more easily than others and may not be suitable for sharpening in a pencil sharpening machine.

    good luck buying a cutter to replace the one when it becomes blunt... they sell the machine for a shit load of money, made of metal and shit, but they don't sell you the cutter (at least there is no sign of it on their website) so... equal value to a disposable plastic one

    • @carandacheinsouthafrica3424
      @carandacheinsouthafrica3424  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Evils Dexter, no, please do not discard the whole sharpening machine, that would be completely against everything we stand for! The cutter is certainly replaceable and I make mention of this at 2:52 in the video and briefly describe how to replace it. Caran D'Ache carry stock of hundreds of replacement parts for their writing instruments and certainly the metal sharpening machine, too, in fact many more than just the cutter. You will probably not find these replacement parts listed on webstores but your local retailer should have access to them via the agents, if they do not carry stock themselves.
