  • Phillipe is interested in how architecture can provide a glimpse into how people live all around the world. He travels to some of the most unique spots and culture on the planet to see what they have to offer. Sulawesi is the 4th largest of Indonesia’s 17,000 islands, and it is here that the Toraja live. With firm attachment to their traditions, the Toraja live in unique dwellings called tongkonen, which means the place where you sit. A home and also a dwelling place for the dead, prepared for spiritual departure. Next Phillipe heads to Voralberg in Austria, situated between the Rhine Valley, Lake Constance, and the Alps. Having been previously known for its traditional rustic wooden houses, the last 3 decades have seen the town incorporate contemporary architecture, and becoming world leaders in ecology and sustainable development.
