    Using multiple angles to display each letter is genius. It can make the difference between trying to copy a sign and fully understanding the sign you're making. Thank you very much for posting.

    Something I found helpful for practicing is signing along and trying to stay one step ahead and then checking you're right when he does it. For example, I sign an A before he signs an A, I check my A is right based on his, then I have to switch to a B in the time before he does, then once he does I use his to check, and so on. Maybe this will help someone else as well!

    To hearing English speakers:
    1.ASL is NOT English. ASL has its own grammar structure and sayings/ signs that can be only understood in sign and not English
    2. Facial expression is very important. In English when you speak, the pitch of your voice changes depending on how you feel. To show feelings in ASL we use facial expression
    3.Deaf and deaf have slightly different meanings

    • @harashe1000
      @harashe1000 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      I'm learning ASL now and I'm having a hard time with the facial expressions-- I think I'm a bit repressed and feel scared/embarrassed to do anything with my face that's not a neutral expression. Glad I'm learning ASL and extra glad because it's teaching me about myself in ways I didn't expect! I'm working to strengthen the link between my thoughts and the expressions I convey outwardly

      And what do you mean “leave that to the people who are fluent” they had to learn at some point too and once she becomes fluent it won’t matter. Why? Because she’s fluent so she can teach whoever the hell she wants. Do you really think that telling someone who’s obviously passionate about their goals to just not do them because there’s more people skilled at it? Everyone has to learn at some point.

    I just learned the alphabet after watching your video about five times. I figure if I watch it five times every day and continue to add in words I’ll get better at ASL in no-time. Last week a deaf person sat down at my bar and I really wished that I would’ve had the ability to have a better conversation with him. We managed by typing things on our phones, however, when he comes back, I want to blow him away by having an entire conversation in a language we both can understand. So thank you for all these videos because of all the ASL channels I’ve come across yours is the very best. ✌🏽

    Hi from the land of the long white cloud, New Zealand (NZ)! Thank you for the video of ASL ABC :-)
    I work with a lovely student who has lost the movement of her right side of her body from a stroke. Although Deaf people in NZ use the manual alphabet with two hands, your video has given me an idea to help my student learn ABC through ASL with a one hand alphabet signs. This video is clear, precise and an easy pace to follow. Without sounds or captions, come on you people! Strengthen your visual perceptions and ASL or any other sign languages used around the world are not based on sounds! Imagine what it feels like to be immersed into the land of the Deaf signing to communicate and that will help change your perceptions of Deaf people and their beautiful language!! So ... thank you! Good work!

    • @asl2mckays
      @asl2mckays 6 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @Breezyhands Learning the one handed alphabet to use in a country where they use a two handed alphabet might not help that person fit in. Is there another way? If you work with some Deaf folks I bet they can help you come up with an adaptation to the two handed alphabet (and other signs) so your student will be able to communicate with others! Best of luck :-)

    I cannot find enough good things to say about this video! The pace was just right for my 6yr old & I to keep cadence with; and, at least for me, not feeling that either of us were just contorting our hands in a hurried attempt to try & mimic the instructor.
    What I find most brilliant are the multi-view of hand/finger positioning, as well as there being no music or voice-over to distract from the tutorial. Bravo, and thank you!

    This is really helpful, this year I'm trying to learn Spanish and ASL, I plan on mastering ASL in at least two years. I also plan on mastering Spanish in four years. I also plan on mastering other languages too, but for now I'm going to start with ASL and Spanish, wish me luck!

    I’m learning asl because I’m autistic and only partial verbal. I haven’t learned sign language yet because I had a late diagnosis, so I’m teaching myself!
