100% I grew up in Texas and my moms friend was a Hispanic woman/ family (we are white/ gringo) She would make them once a month and my mom would get/ buy batches them from her. Eventually, I grew up & joined the military and moved to Virginia ( Little Creek). After getting there I starting looking for a good Mexican restraunt to get tamales. I was disappointed every time. My mom told Isabella (her friend), and she would overnight a big batch 2-3 times a year (when I wasn't deployed) and when I say batch, I mean 2 full trays (about 40),😅😂🤣😂. I would freeze them and just have them as snack when i was having a bad day. Over the years, i got married and had 2 children. She would send special batches to my wife while i was deployed and eventually to my son (my daughter was to young). That went on for about 10 years. She passed away from cancer in 2018. About 4 months before she died, I was visiting my parents, and of course, I went to see her and introduced her to my wife and children (in person). About 2 months later, I got a huge package from her with a little book. It was at least 200 tamales (it took up about 1/2 of my deep freezer in the garage). That book had a letter just saying how happy she was to meet my wife and children and how proud she was of the man I became. The other pages were recipes of about 10 Mexican dishes, the last one, of course, being those tamales. Sadly, less than 2 months later, she died. It's been almost 6 years, and I make tamales every new years eve. Sorry for the long comment. Every time i see or smell tamales i think of Isabella. The clip made me think of her, and I wish the whole world could know how amazing and loving Isabella was.

New Mexican food and Mexican food are wildly different (both vile in my opinion. Native New Mexican lol). Significantly different flavors, sauces and ingredients (the green/red chile). Cool concept. I’m sure her food is “traditional” New Mexican food 😊 cute!
My children's father was born and raised in Albuquerque. The food in New Mexico is different from what we are used to in California when it comes to Mexican food. It is definitely worth experiencing.

She knew she was dying and left you such a wonderful gift for you and your family. Bless her soul!! Beautiful read as well, thanks for sharing.
Your message was just right. You paid homage to a beautiful giving woman. She deserved the praise you gave her.
