- Hello :)
This is the requested transcription I did of the Robert Palmer song "Every Kinda People". This come from his 1978 album "Double Fun". I think the bass player on this track was Pierre Brock, but I can't say for sure. There are three players listed on the album. If anyone knows for sure, please let me know and I'll update this information.
This transcription can be found at www.muzento.com under Advanced - Learning Songs subject.
This is a nice song with a groovy bass line and a nice message.
The rhythm in this song reminds me of some "latin" type charts I've played before. I would describe the rhythm as a slow Samba.
This is actually a tricky bass line. It's not the most friendly key to be reading in (Gb), and there are a bunch of different ways one could play this part. The high grace notes will surprise you if you're not prepared for them. There are slight variations on each verse to watch out for. The nice thing is that the chorus' and the lead into the chorus remain constant.
It reads pretty good. Just remember to subdivide and look ahead.
I hope you enjoy it :)
Don't forget to like and subscribe and thanks for watching :)

Hi Greg! What a cool and the elegant bass line. You can hear the bass singing with the vocalist, not just accompaning him. Get that effect must be very difficult, but when it works it´s really great. Thanks Greg.
Hey Juan, I'm glad you like it. It's a actually a pretty simple melodic tool he's using (very well). It'd be good to know this concept in other keys...hint, hint ;) Thanks!
Brilliant.
Thanks a lot :)
Awesome job. Never realized what a great bass line this is
I never realized it either! Thanks :)
What a great song and really nice bass lines. I really loved it and will add it to my Songs to Learn list. Great job even with "whatever" you have.
Thanks very much. I think you'll enjoy learning this one ;) Thanks!
THANK YOU! THANK YOU!! THANK YOU!!! I re-discovered this song and realized what a well thought-out line this is!

I just started learning this one last week! Thanks for posting!
What a coincidence. Hope this might help...thanks!
Great bass line and so fun to learn! Gives me Marvin Gaye vibes.
Glad you like it...yeah. I can hear that. Thanks!
Nailed it! I knew you would, of course. Thanks Greg.
Hey Russ...thanks :) I'm glad you liked it...cheers!
thank you Maestro
Hey Joe...thanks :)
Great song and transcription. Thanks!
My pleasure...thank you :)
Hi Greg i'm pretty sure it is Bob Babbitt on this so i remember, it is a great one full of ideas and super groovy.
Hey Mario, thanks for your input. You're the second person whose suggested it was Bob. I saw a video of Robert Palmer doing this live, and his bass player (not Bob Babbit) was playing the line almost exactly like the recording. It made me think it was his line that he was playing...but then maybe he just learned it from the recording? I only know Bob's playing from some of the Motown stuff he did. I haven't heard him play melodically like this track is. Thanks again for the input, you've got me scratching my head and rethinking it :)
@@BassCovers only because is a great line kudos to the great Babbitt, you should do Scorpio one day. Great job greg as always
There are two versions. The original is played by Bob Babbitt. The player on the later version is unknown.
Is this the latter version?
@@BassCovers No, it looks like the original one!
I think if you look up funky bass line in the dictionary this song would probably be there. Thanks Greg
haha...probably :)
great performance Greg, I already subscribed to your channel, in this song (one of my favorites) the bass sings! you nailed it!! I will keep on practicing!
By the way, have you played Herb Alpert´s Rise?
Hey Engel, I like your attitude to keep practicing ;) I'm not familiar with that song, but I'll check it out. Thanks!
Man! Greg! You play killer, looks relaxed, how many years you been playing? Also, I'm digging on your choice of song selection, where do you get the sheet music from..?
haha...thanks Frank. I've been playing for a few years now ;) and hahaha...the sheet music comes from yours truly. Thanks again :)
